7 THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE WE GO Ski Lessons Tickets booked bags packed Travel insurance purchased Passports Get me to the Airport on time

8 THE I DON T WANT TO MISS MY FLIGHT RISK Early morning flight + 2 small children = get there the night before According to AA Route planner Distance: 90 miles Time: 1 hr 38 mins Travel lodge near the airport, leisurely journey down & dinner the night before Back to the hotel According to AA Route planner Round trip home to fetch missing Passport Distance: 180 miles Time: 3 hr 16 mins (According to me - not a great start to the holiday!) SOMETIMES TRYING TO HANDLE RISK CAN INTRODUCE A WHOLE BUNCH OF DIFFERENT RISKS, OR IN SOME CASES, ACTUALLY MAKE IT THE RISK YOU ARE TRYING TO AVOID MORE LIKELY TO HAPPEN.

11 CONSIDERING THE MANAGEMENT OF RISK RISK: SKIING INJURY LIKELIHOOD Ski lessons before the holiday Further Ski lessons during the trip Protective clothing (e.g. helmet) Ski binding (In case of a fall) A ski binding is a device that connects a ski boot to the ski. Generally, it holds the boot firmly to allow the skier to manoeuvre the ski. However, if certain force limits are exceeded, it releases the boot to minimize skier injury, such as in the case of a fall or impact. 12 SOME CLOUDS DO HAVE A SILVER LINING I was injured on Jan 19 th 2016 Started stage 1 Physio in February 2016 {Phased return to work} Had surgery in July 2016 Started phase 2 Physio in August 2016 {Phased return to work} Returned to work full time in September 2016 Given permission to start light running and did my first run on October 9 th 2016 I ran my first half marathon Sept 24 th 2017 SOMETIMES AN IMPACTING RISK CAN OPEN UP THE POSSIBILITY OF NEW OPPORTUNITIE S, A CHANGE OF ENVIRONMENT CAN CHANGE THE RISK LANDSCAPE

14 RISK & OPPORTUNITY: LESSONS I HAVE LEARNED Beware of the secondary risks that risk management activities can introduce (Remember the effects of the loss of passports mitigation with avoiding the I don t want to miss my flight risk ) Beware of transferring risk without understanding & therefore choosing to accept the residual risk (Insurance, Warranty & subtracting seldom handles the complete risk) When risks occur the change in environment they have introduced may be worth exploring for new opportunities (Some clouds do have a silver lining) Any questions?
