Regular investment in enhancing the offering continued into the 1970s, including opening the Rendlbahn, which provided access to the surrounding region via three T-bar lifts. As well as investing continuously in avalanche barriers, modification to the terrain and snowmaking facilities, new systems were built in the 1980s, including the Valfagehrbahn, the Zammermoosbahn, the Schindlergratbahn, the Rifflbahn I + II, the Mattunbahn and the renovated Kapallbahn. Over the next ten years, more investment continued to be made in artificial snow and constructing slopes. Existing systems were also modernised and new ones built, such as the Gampenbahn and the Kapallbahn. In the years leading up to the 2001 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, the focus was on Gampen and Kapall: upgrading the snowmaking facilities and opening the Fangbahn and the Nassereinbahn. The 97 cable cars and lifts that are on the Arlberg today now form a genuine high-tech lift park. When it was built in 2006, the new Galzigbahn was unlike any cable car anywhere in the world a state-of-the-art funitel combined with innovative ultra-large-wheel technology. Wheels with an impressive diameter of 9.3 m allow passengers ground-level access to the gondolas. In 2009, the Rendlbahn was replaced by an 8-seater monocable ropeway and the new Rendl Restaurant was opened. Four years later, the new Tanzbödenbahn on the Galzig went into operation: a detachable 6-seater chairlift with weather-protection hoods and automatic child safety lock another innovation in cable car technology. The next milestone was set in the winter season of 2016/17: building the Flexenbahn between Stuben/Rauz and Zürs makes Ski Arlberg Austria s largest ski area and one of the five biggest in the world, boasting 87 cable cars and lifts, 305 kilometres of ski slopes and 200 kilometres of deep-snow runs. The new Albonabahn II and the Trittkopfbahnen I and II have also been built as part of this project.
