4 Borovets A Fun Packed Resort SKIING FIT FOR A KING Set amidst the majestic forest-clad Rila Mountains and once a hunting ground for Bulgarian Kings, Borovets is now internationally renowned as one of the top visited ski resorts in Bulgaria. Borovets was Bulgaria s first ski resort, dating back to the 19th century when it was only known to an exclusive few but now everyone has the opportunity to experience this colourful, lively winter ski resort! KEEP DISCOVERING Borovets is situated on the northern side of the Rila Mountain and enjoys a perfect location right at the foot of Mount Musala (2925 metres) the highest peak on the Balkans. It is justly popular with all levels of skiers and boarders, with a setting that s near perfect and a very well-developed lift network which carries up to 15,800 tourists per hour, providing quick access to the 58 km of ski runs. Snow-making and good grooming on the pistes can turn a good day on the slopes into a great day on the slopes, so to ensure they offer you the ultimate skiing experience. For winter 2014 Borovets will increase the number of snow-making cannons from 70 to 150. Borosport Snow Park is located at Yastrebets 3 accessed by the Yastrebets express lift. Borovets is renowned for great nightlife with lots of bars and cafes, alongside the numerous clubs, making the après-ski a real attraction at great prices. Or for those looking for more a subdued nightlife, enjoy the regular folklore evenings or even visit a genuine Bulgarian home for a taste of traditional cooking and entertainment. If you haven t discovered this premier ski resort yet, you re in for a treat. BEGINNERS *** The Borovets ski school enjoys an excellent reputation where the friendly, helpful instructors make learning a pleasure and success guaranteed. Beginners start the week on the nursery slopes outside Hotel Rila but by the end of the week everyone is heading for the gondola lift and trying something a little more challenging. INTERMEDIATES *** The choices for the intermediates are wide and various, with excellent skiing/boarding in the exciting Yastrebets and Markoudjik areas. The well-planned lift system includes the 5 km, 6-person Yastrebets gondola lift, which opens up a wealth of enjoyable runs, ranging from wide sunny boulevards in the Musala basin, to scenic looping trails through the trees. From the gondola taking you to the top you can try one of the longest downhill runs in Bulgaria, as well as some great skiing on the slopes of the wind-free basin underneath Musala peak. ADVANCED ** Advanced skiers/boarders can test their skills on the World Cup Competition run and enjoy skiing/boarding on the more difficult intermediate runs. There are opportunities for off-piste enthusiasts and more than enough diversions available to keep the most avid "professional" busy.

5 SKI LIFTS All ski lifts operate between 8.45am-4.30pm and are closed for half a day each week, and one full day each month for technical checks. NIGHT SKIING Borovets opens early and closes late. Four runs are open at night with illumination and sound. All you need is to purchase a night pass valid from 6 pm. The runs are open until 10 pm every day. Night skiing is not included in the pre-bookable lift pass and other prebookable ski packs. Après-ski Borovets is as well known for its great nightlife as it is for its fantastic skiing/boarding, and there are very few other places around where you can stay out until 4 in the morning at prices which are a lot less than you would expect to pay in a club back home. For those who prefer their nightlife a little more subdued and perhaps have a yearning to learn about Bulgaria s varied folk traditions, there are regular folklore evenings and even a visit to a genuine Bulgarian home for a taste of home cooking and entertainment. The main nightclubs are at the Samokov and Rila hotels where you will find music to dance the night away. NIGHTLIFE There are plenty of restaurants and bars from cosy inns with log fire to busy bars with loud music and dancing. There are also many nightclubs, dotted around the resort. Wherever you go, the atmosphere in all venues is fantastic, with people from all over Europe mixing together and having a great time. EXCURSIONS If you have aching limbs after a few days on the slopes, why not try one of our excursions. You can take a full or half day trip to Sofia, Plovdiv or the fascinating Rila Monastery. A Skidoo Safari is great fun. A trained operator takes you through the wood trails of the resort, after that you can have a go! Please book all excursions through your local representative. SHOPS There is a wide variety of shops, stalls and kiosks in the village centre. The shops in the Hotel Rila and Samokov sell branded ski wear and other clothes, souvenirs, and snacks. The stalls, situated along the main street, sell a variety of skis, ski clothing, clothes, CDs and souvenirs. MEDICAL ARRANGEMENTS In Borovets there is a round-the-clock mountain rescue service, ambulance, clinic (with doctor and nurse) plus first aid service on all ski slopes; X-ray facilities are also available in Borovets and the town of Samokov.
