(80,000 inhabitants in the summer) Useful links Arcachon bay is a well-known region in a magnificent setting with the ocean, sandy es and pine forests. It is located next to the young and dynamic city of Bordeaux, famous for its castles surrounded by vineyards. PROGRAMME DATES July / mid August Programmes available: French Courses Program (From 12 to 18 years old - 2, 3, or 4 weeks) After the morning classes, students enjoy an attractive activity program. French & Surf Program (From 13 to 18 years old - 2 weeks) After the morning classes, students will practice surf to the ocean. French & Multi-Activity Program (From 13 to 18 years old - 3 or 4 weeks) This program combines two weeks of surfing and one week or two of fun activities! (Precio a consultar) HOMESTAY ACCOMMODATION Many of our families have been hosting students for years, the new ones are selected according to very definite selection criteria, which are: open-mindedness, availability, receptiveness and a good sense of welcoming. Some families live near the centre of Arcachon, others in villages outside the city (25 minutes max from the city). They greet no more than 3 students at the same time and from different countries and languages. Rooms: Students are accommodated in single or two-bedded rooms equipped with private or shared bathroom. They are invited to keep their room tidy and to participate in the daily tasks and duties of the household Meals: Full board is provided with picnic lunch on weekdays. Vegetarian meals are available upon request. Students are asked to be punctual for meals. Laundering: The host family will help with the laundering. LEISURE ACTIVITIES are organised every weekday afternoon. Weekends are spent with the host family. - Excursions: there is one day excursion organised per week. Coach fees & entry fees are included. - Assistance: Assistance from a team of qualified French leaders. ASSISTANCE - Managing staff: The local coordinator and the team of French leaders live nearby. The French leaders run the activity programme. They have regular meetings with the local coordinator to discuss about the students and the programme. The local coordinator keeps in touch with the students throughout their stay. - Medical services: Arcachon town is equipped with a local hospital. In case of emergency, participants can be driven to Bordeaux hospitals. Doctors are available upon request to visit the student at their host family s home. If a doctor is required, medical fees are at students expenses. European students should bring their European medical card with them for medical coverage. Permission to go out at night: Participants aged from 15 and are allowed to go out in the evening until 21:00, those under the age of 15 are not allowed to go out. Transportation: Local bus/train ticket to get to/from the language school is NOT INCLUDED. Price/pax: from 20 weekly (approximate price). There are direct, safe and regular connections by train (Biganos Arcachon Biganos). Students will travel together. 2 DESCRIPTION OF THE LANGUAGE SCHOOL ARCACHON BAY LANGUAGE SCHOOL Lycée Saint-Elme - Arcachon The language school is situated in the town of Arcachon, in one of the main streets of the city close to public transportation (train station) During the stay in France, French lessons will be attended. A placement test will be given on arrival. At the end of the stay a new test will take place to check the progress. A certificate of attendance will be provided. There will be 15 lessons. Student will be placed into groups of 15 students per class. The French teachers are certified and specialised in teaching French to foreign students. Emphasis is made on spoken French, so students can rapidly communicate in various daily circumstances. Each class is well furnished, with chairs and desks. Daily transport is arranged to the surf spot. - Surf lessons are adapted accordingly to each level and quality wetsuits and surfboards are lent by the school. The board will be chosen fom a wide variety of surfboards including foam boards which are the safest and the most fun to learn with. - Participants also take part in a weekly excursion with the international group.
