3 PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! The week of Red Division is fun and exciting, but can be exhausting. Please have your child stay well hydrated, well nourished and well rested as much as possible. We need to be ready to swim our best! PLEASE do not let your child come to the pool, EXCEPT for practice or a social. PLEASE do not allow your child to be out late TIRED swimmers are SLOW swimmers! Parents, remind your swimmer NOT to venture into ANY other pool territory! We need to conduct ourselves like the CHAMPIONS we are! Red Division will be held at Stone Lake The 10 and unders swim Friday, July 14th at 3:00 pm The 11 and ups swim Saturday, July 15th at 9:30 am Please come and support the Gower swimmers both days. We need lots of spirit and support for our swimmers as they try to keep the Metcalf Cup with Gower, where it belongs! Keep in mind that this is a very important meet. There will be fairly strict rules that all we need to follow with parking, seating and being on deck. These rules are very necessary for the meet to run smoothly and safely. The Gower Boutique will be open from 10:00am - 12:00pm. Activity: Shaving Gower Park Bring your own shaving cream (menthol free!). Wear goggles and an old swimsuit! 10:30-11:00 10 & under 11:00-11:30 11 & up Afternoon Practice: 2:00-2:45 8 and under 2:45-3: :30-4: :15-5:00 13 & up Wednesday Social: Pasta Party - 10 & unders Fourth Presbyterian Church 703 East Washington Street (Use Manly Street side entrance.) 6:15-8 pm Get ready to battle it out with your coaches in a friendly game of dodgeball and paint nails at the Gower Salon. Coaches vs. Swimmers! Cost is $7 which includes pasta dinner from the Traveling Peddlar and activities - dodge ball, Gower Nail Salon, and Crafts/Posters. Afternoon Practice: Red Division Mock Meet for 10 and unders at practice today! Important - All Relay teams must attend the Mock Meet. 2:00-3:00 8 and under Mock Meet 3:00-4: Mock Meet No afternoon practice for 11 and up! Activity: 10 & unders - join your teammates after the Mock Meet for a dance party and a cool treat compliments of Space Max before painting up at 4:45 in Gower Park for the pep rally! Please note there is no adult supervision provided parents please accompany your swimmer! 11 & ups - arrive at 4:45 for your cool treat before the pep rally! 5:15 PEP RALLY AT THE POOL FOR EVERYONE! GO GOWER!! Thursday Social: Dinner for 11 & ups Embassy Suites, 670 Verdae Boulevard 6:15-8 pm (Right after the pep rally at GOWER.) Please be sure to have your swimmer picked up promptly at 8pm. $20 includes admission and dinner. They will also make spirit signs! Reservations required and due before July 10th! 9 Friday, July 14, 2017 Red Division Day for 10 and unders! Please remember, painting up for the actual Red Division Meet is NOT allowed. Morning Practice: 9:00-9: :45-10:30 13 and up 10 and unders meet at Gower at 12:30 am to ride the bus to Stone Lake. Buses will leave promptly at 12:45 pm. You must have $5.00 cash and signed PRINTED permission slip to ride the bus. The permission slip is located on the Gower website and can be also found HERE or you may look in your for a waiver. No coolers, backpacks or chairs allowed on the bus! Warm-ups begin at Stone Lake at 2:10. The meet starts at 3:00 pm. Please check practice times daily! Page 9

10 Saturday, July 15, 2017 Red Division Day for 11 and ups! Please remember, painting up for the actual Red Division Meet is NOT allowed. Activities: 6:30 am 11 and ups wear your bathing suit and come to GOWER ready for a quick warm up before breakfast (Chick-fil-A and water). Buses will load at 7:00 am. You must have $5.00 cash and a PRINTED and signed permission slip to ride the bus. The permission slip is located on the Gower website and can also be found HERE or you may look in your for a waiver. No coolers, backpacks or chairs allowed on the bus! Warm-ups begin at Stone Lake at 8:20 am. The meet starts at 9:30 am. Senior Roast & Red Division After Party Please join us from 6:00 7:00 pm to celebrate our seniors! Afterwards, join us from 7:00 11:00 pm to celebrate another amazing swim season! 11 Sunday, July 16, 2018 Championships and Classics Eligibility SAIL results for Championships and Classics are posted at Gower Pool by 5 pm Sunday. Come to the pool to check results and order a t-shirt, if desired. T-shirt orders are due by 12:00 noon on Monday, July 17th. This is a strict deadline. No exceptions. Forms are available at the pool on Sunday. Alternates for Championships are allowed to order a t-shirt even if they are not pulled to swim. There are no alternates for Classics. Questions? 12 PARENT INFORMATION RED DIVISION 2017 Stone Lake Pool Welcome! Stone Lake and Devenger are pleased to host this year s Red Divisional Meet. We look forward to your cooperation and help in making this a successful swim meet. We hope you find our facilities to your satisfaction. Please review the following guidelines and suggestions. SWIMMER DROP OFF Please make certain to follow the directions below. Parking Marshals and City Police will be available for directions and for your safety. Please follow their guidance. Drop-off will be allowed in the lower circle drive. (continued on next page) Directions to Stone Lake Plan A Dropping Off Swimmers or if you have a reserved parking pass, use these directions: From Wade Hampton Blvd, turn onto Chick Spring Road. The intersection is between Bob Jones University and Church Street. It is recognized by a traffic light and former CVS store. There is only one direction to turn onto Chick Springs Road. Bear right at the yield sign with Mohawk Drive staying on Chick Springs Road. Turn left into the first entrance to the pool for drop-off. From the exit, proceed straight out of the pool drive onto Twin Lake Road to park at League Middle School/Academy. Plan B Parking Only Go north on Pleasantburg Drive, Hwy 291. Turn left onto Rutherford Road. Turn second left onto Stone Lake Drive. Follow Stone Lake Drive around to League Middle School/ Academy. It is a 0.3 mile walk from League s parking lot to the pool. Golf carts will be available to transport those who need help. Please check practice times daily! Page 12

13 (continued) The lower drive will be shut off 30 minutes prior to the start of the meet to allow the children to pass safely back and forth to the tents. When dropping off your swimmers, please pull forward as far as possible, following the marshal s directions. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CAR UNATTENDED. Please proceed out of the pool by crossing over Chick Springs onto Twin Lake Drive. Ample parking is available at League Academy- 0.3 miles from the pool. Golf carts will be available to transport those who need help to the pool. NOT ALLOWED Approaching the pool from any direction other than northbound on Chick Springs Road from the direction of Wade Hampton Blvd. See map for details. PARKING If you ARE NOT dropping off at the pool, please see the map to go directly to League Academy parking lot. Following these guidelines and sharing them with grandparents and other spectators will greatly relieve congestion and provide for everyone s safety. Basic directions are: north on Hwy 291/ Pleasantburg; left onto Rutherford Road; second left onto Stone Lake Drive; follow Stone Lake around to League Academy. Depending on your route to the pool, following these directions will take no more than an extra 3-4 minutes. All parking in the Stone Lake Pool parking lot is by permit only. Each SAIL Rep. will receive a specified number of passes to distribute according to the needs of your team. Permits must be displayed on the dash of your vehicle throughout the duration of the meet. Please drop those requiring special access off at the pool and have another in the party drive the car to the parking area at League. PLEASE RESPECT THE NO PARKING SIGNS AND TRAFFIC CONES!! These areas are no parking for a reason and violators could be subject to towing. CONCESSIONS Stone Lake Concessions will be located in the Clubhouse. We will offer a full menu ranging from our popular fresh grilled burgers and hot dogs, pasta salad and Chick-fil-A sandwiches plus many other items on Friday and Saturday. On Saturday morning, we will also have breakfast items including Chick-fil-A biscuits and coffee. Carolina Gourmet Snowballs will be selling snow cones in the parking lot. SEATING Bleacher seating will be available on the pool deck. Chairs will not be permitted on the pool deck. There will be limited standing areas on the pool deck. Chairs can be set up on the hill. Please respect all direction of the Marshals and do not enter swimmer only or coach areas. Only volunteers will badges are allowed in restricted areas. MEET RESULTS During the meet, results will be posted on boards located in the lower drop-off area, just across from the main pool gate. HEAT SHEETS Heat sheets will be available for $7 each and includes both Friday and Saturday sessions. Please check practice times daily! Page 13

14 BAD WEATHER CONTINGENCY PLAN Meet Stoppage: In the event of stopping the meet for bad weather on Friday evening, warm-ups will begin on Saturday no earlier than 1:00 pm with the same order of events as Friday evening. If the meet is stopped on Saturday for bad weather, your SAIL Rep will meet with other officials and inform you of a new schedule. Very Heavy Rain: In case of heavy rain, swimmers will be asked to leave the tent area and move their possessions to the upper parking lot(s). Please be ready to assist the children in making this move. Severe Weather: In the event of severe weather, all spectators should return to their cars. We will be in touch with the National Weather Service to monitor potentially bad weather in the area. It is at the lifeguard and referee s discretion whether or not to stop the meet. The Meet Referee, a lifeguard, Meet Director, and SAIL Reps from each team will decide when the meet shall resume. FACILITIES/RESTROOMS Please encourage your swimmers to use the portable toilets in the tent area. These will be maintained so that they are sanitary throughout the event. We have limited facilities in the red roof cabana building. The clubhouse restrooms will not be available for spectators and are for meet officials only. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. ALCOHOL As part of your SAIL organization by-laws, no alcohol is permitted during SAIL-sponsored events. BODY PAINT and NOISE MAKERS Individuals with body paint will NOT be allowed on the pool deck or in the pool. No air horns or other horns. Clappers and bells are permitted. TEAM CHEERS Cheers prior to meet start must be conducted on the pool deck or in the tent area, not in the competition pool. SPORTSMANSHIP Swimmers and their families are expected to demonstrate teamwork, integrity, respect and good sportsmanship in order for all Divisional participants to have a positive experience. This means treating swimmers, coaches, officials and fans from all teams with respect. Parents, please talk to your swimmers about the importance of exemplary sportsmanship. Please note that the SAIL Board this season has adopted revised technical rules that may result in sanctions against individuals or teams exhibiting poor sportsmanship, including, but not limited to, removal from the Divisional swim meet at the discretion of the referee. 15 RECOGNITION OF SENIOR SWIMMERS Prior to the start of Saturday s events, we will recognize all high school graduates. AWARDS CEREMONY We will have an awards presentation at the time the results have been finalized. We will present trophies for both the Metcalf Cup (high point) and the Founder s Cup (quality point). All head coaches will be asked to stand together at the starter stand for the presentation. The teams will be able to sit on the side the pool with their feet in the water while we wait the results of the meet. For safety reasons, teams may not get in the pool at the end of the meet when the results are announced. Please check practice times daily! Page 15
