10 Team Selection Team selectors and coaches always endeavour to be fair and base their selection decisions on what is best for our swimmers and our club. Selectors will have final decision regardless of any situation that may arise, and this should be respected always by swimmers and their families. When selecting the team for Upper North Interclub Friday night carnivals, attendance at training is considered along with commitment, behaviour and attitude at Friday nights and trainings. There will be an availability sheet that each swimmer is required to tick if they are available for the upcoming Friday Night Interclub Competition. This needs to be ticked by end of training Thursday night, if this is not ticked you will not be picked. Teams are selected on Thursday at 7.00pm. After team selection has been completed, if you are then unable to attend you need to advise Debbie Smart via text by 12pm on the Friday so allocated swims can be reallocated, especially relays. All Junior, Intermediate and Senior swimmers who train and are considered capable of competing by the coaches, will be placed in the team on Friday nights. Beginner swimmers will only be selected when coaches consider them ready and spots are available for all beginners to compete. Scratch events are open to all swimmers (except the 200m events) and swimmers will be entered based on their ability. BBB (Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly) events are open to all swimmers and the swimmers preferred stroke will be considered. Records will be kept each week to endeavour to mix strokes around so swimmers experience all strokes over differing distances and are not swimming the same stroke all night. Relays may be rotated each week, depending on number of swimmers available. A record is kept of this also to ensure fairness to all swimmers. At times, due to the program and the number of swimmers available, some swimmers will be allocated more swims than others. When this is the case, team selectors will use their discretion taking into consideration trainings attended and ability. Any queries should be raised with the President of the Club or Team Selectors. Page 10 of 22
