3 Pool Safety & Inspection 1. Swimming pool Each community must comply with all local, county and state regulations and ordinances governing service and operation of swimming pools. It is the responsibility of the on site manager and service manager to ensure compliance with local laws and to ensure that the swimming pool operating personnel are properly certified or licensed to do so, if required. All swimming pool areas must be fenced and all pool access gates must be locked when pool is closed. All gates must be equipped with automatic closures to prevent unauthorized access while pool is open. Pool rules (including hours of operation) must be posted in full view and all required safety equipment must be available and in good working condition. Pool chemicals should be checked at the beginning of each day prior to opening the pool. The readings and chemicals added should be recorded daily on the 31 Day Pool Chemical Log sheet. (Following this section) Pool area should be cleaned daily prior to opening the pool. The furniture should be aligned and the trash removed, restrooms cleaned and opened, ash trays emptied at the beginning of each day. Any unbalanced chemicals, missing signs or safety equipment and or abuse or vandalism should be reported and the pool should be closed until repairs have been made or equipment is replaced. Problem pools that experience continual vandalism and or broken and missing equipment may with approved by the Regional Manager issue a letter to the residents indicating that until problems are resolved pool (s) may remain closed until further notice. Unless your pool closes for the winter the pool log and monthly inspections must still occur. Even if your pool is closed for the winter unless it is covered all safety equipment must remain in place. Page 1 of 2
4 Pool Safety & Inspection 2. Pool Chemical Safety If you are not absolutely certain about what you are doing, STOP and get some instructions from a qualified person. Always mix chemicals in a well ventilated area. Never add water to chemicals, Always add the chemicals to water. Always wear safety glasses or face shield when mixing chemicals, or filling chemical feeders. Never mix pool chemicals together this can be a deadly mix. Never open or handle chlorine in a confined area. Breathing chlorine fumes will cause serious respiratory injury. Store all chemicals in a well ventilated area. Keep store room dry and keep chemicals off the floor to protect from water. The Service manager should abide by and have an understanding of all regulations regarding the storage of pool chemicals. If in doubt FIND IT OUT, call or ask for help with any uncertain issues regarding the safety and operational standards of your pool. If your pool is winterized no chemical readings for the period the pool is closed is necessary. Indicate Pool Closed on the log sheet in large bold letters. Follow the suggested pool winterization procedures for your pool. Page 2 of 2
