2 2 The best swimming venue in the UK today The Tollcross pool is now recognised as one of the best swimming facilities in the world. Two 50m pools, 16 long course lanes, capacity for 5000 spectators, elite athlete gym, two sports halls and host venue for the Duel in the Pool, Commonwealth Games, IPC World Championships, European Sports Championships and GB Olympic & Paralympic Trials. This is where you will train every day. Glasgow is one the world s leading cities for higher & further education. Home to no less than four universities and a multitude of colleges, Glasgow offers an unparalleled range of options to combine academic study with high performance swimming. The City Glasgow is Scotland's largest city, and one of the most diverse and lively in the UK. Recent years have witnessed the city go through major redevelopment. Host to many big sporting events, home of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Glasgow School of Art, it is Scotland's sporting and cultural capital. The national opera, ballet and orchestra are all based in the city, which also boasts art galleries, museums and theatres galore. Students find the locals very friendly and the four universities are within easy reach of one another. The Swim Team The City of Glasgow Swim Team are based out of the famous Tollcross International Sports Centre, home of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, on the east side of the city. One of the biggest programmes in the UK, the club boasts five full-time and eight part-time professional coaches. Swimmers have access to over 20 hours water time per week as well as dedicated strength & conditioning sessions in the onsite elite athlete gym. Student swimming is a key section within the club and success on the national and international stage is the aim.

Training times can be tailored to adjusted on an individual basis to create the optimal schedule for each athlete. City of Glasgow Swim Team (COGST) was formed in 1993 and now has around 280 members. Progression is by squad and age; the youngest members being 6-8 year olds within the development squads through to the most experienced members in the performance squads. The aim of the club is to provide a swim programme recognised for excellence to swimmers of all levels and the opportunity for every swimmer with the desire and commitment to progress from novice to champion. The Club s Management Committee works closely with Glasgow Life and receives support for coaching, pool hire and event grants. Coaches are recruited and employed by Glasgow Life under a Partnership Agreement with the Club. High level student swimmers are expected to join the Club s Elite Performance training squad under the guidance if Head Performance Coach Ian Wright. A typical training week mid-season might look as follows: Swim Glasgow City of Sport Glasgow is ranked in the top five sporting cities in the world. Home to Celtic, Rangers, Glasgow Warriors, Hampden Park, the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Emirates Arena, Kelvin Hall Arena and host of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2015 World Gymnastics Championships, the Davis Cup, IAAF Diamond League events and the inaugural 2018 European Sports Championships. 4 The purpose built Tollcross International Swimming Centre is one of the best aquatic facilities in the world. The venue was home to the 2014 Commonwealth Games and will also host the inaugural 2018 European Sports Championships. 4

Camilla Hattersley One of the best examples of student swimming success at City of Glasgow Swim Team has been the dramatic rise to prominence of Camilla Hattersley.

5 5 Training with City of Glasgow Swim Team and studying at the University of Glasgow has been the perfect combination for me. Camilla Hattersley, Olympian, Commonwealth Games finalist and Scottish record holder. Camilla Hattersley One of the best examples of student swimming success at City of Glasgow Swim Team has been the dramatic rise to prominence of Camilla Hattersley. The distance freestyle ace joined the programme in 2012 after enrolling on an Aeronautical Engineering degree at the University of Glasgow. After taking a few months to settle into the new lifestyle Hattersley has gone from strength to strength. In 2014 she came from almost nowhere to make the Scotland team for the Commonwealth Games. The following year she represented Scotland at the US Nationals and broke the Scottish record for the 200m Freestyle. Then in 2016 she went even further and qualified for the European Championships and the Rio Olympic Games, representing Great Britain in the 800m and 4x200m Freestyle events. One of the key s to her success has been the financial support and academic flexibility provided by the University of Glasgow. An annual sports bursary reduces the financial burden often faced by the elite athlete and Hattersley has also been able to split the third year of her course over two years to enable more time for training and recovery. Access to dedicated land work sessions, strength & conditioning coaches and physiotherapy support is also on hand at the University should she need it. And with the Scottish Institute of Sport also providing technique filming & analysis, sports science testing, expert nutritional advice and performance lifestyle assistance, Hattersley has everything she needs on hand to reach her full potential in the sport.

6 Expert Coaching - The professional coaching provided at City of Glasgow is second to none. A dedicated team of five full and eight part-time staff ensure all swimmers needs are fully catered for.

Wright has an eye on all sections of the club but focuses his daily attention on the elite and senior swimmers, most of which are university scholars.

He has coached multiple senior and junior international swimmers over the years, in both pool and open water events, with many having produced medal winning success.

Ian Wright Head Performance Coach Appointed in 2015, UK Sport Elite Coach graduate Ian Wright heads up the new look City programme. Wright has an eye on all sections of the club but focuses his daily attention on the elite and senior swimmers, most of which are university scholars. Wright brings a wealth of experience to the role after highly successful stints at Warrender, University of Stirling, Scottish Swimming and Hatfield SC. He has coached multiple senior and junior international swimmers over the years, in both pool and open water events, with many having produced medal winning success. He has also been a regular coaching staff member on various British and Scottish teams. Danielle Brayson Assistant Head Coach Danielle Brayson joined City of Glasgow in 2016 after a successful five year spell at Dumfries Dolphins. Brayson oversees day to day Club work and takes the lead role with the senior performance squad. She is also a qualified lead tutor for Scottish Swimming coaching courses. Heather Albin Head Coach, School of Sport Heather Albin heads up the swimming programme at Glasgow s unique School of Sport. She is also regularly on deck working with the Club s senior and elite performance swimmers.
