Each day there will be a focus on specific sports with additional games and activities. Some of the sports will include: Basketball, Tennis, Soccer, Squash, Badminton, Ultimate Frisbee and Table Tennis. Campers will be on court with our Pros three days a week. This is a tennis based camp where campers will participate in two hours of tennis lessons on court with our Pros (one hour in the mornings and an hour in the afternoons). Using modified tennis equipment campers will be playing tennis in no time! Other activities may include: ultimate challenges, active games, outdoor activities & more! July August Week: Member: $ Non Member: $ (Ages 7 & 8, 9-11): Our Super Squashers Camp will give your camper an opportunity to learn the sport of squash and practice daily. Each day campers will participate in two hours of squash lessons on court with our Pros (one hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon). Other activities may include: active games, team challenges, scavenger hunts, orienteering & more! July Week: Member: $ Non Member: $ (Ages 7 & 8, 9-11): X-Cellent Fun & X-Travagent Arts! HRC values the importance of camp arts & crafts and getting a healthy dose of exercise, so we have created Camp-X. Is your child curious like a cat? Or often asks the question why? If so, this is the right camp for your child! This new camp will have daily themes focused on science, art, drama, indoor camp fire activities and cooperative games. Campers will also get to experience light exercise on the tennis courts using modified equipment and a strong focus on fun. This camp is based on racquet sports including: Table Tennis, Badminton, Tennis and Squash. 10 WHAT TENNIS PATH WILL YOUR JUNIOR PROTÉGÉ FOLLOW? Kid s Progressive Tennis: TINY TENNIS: This program is designed to introduce our youngest players to the proper use of racquets and foam balls through movement and games. 4-6 yrs RED BALL: 1/2 Court Tennis, Mini-nets Red Ball teaches children to play the game of tennis using modified equipment, smaller courts and low compression balls that are more appropriate to the size of their bodies. Recreation 6-8 yrs, Competitive 6 & 7 yrs ORANGE BALL: 3/4 Court Tennis Orange Ball is 50% slower and a smaller court size is used, playing over a lowered net. Recreation 8-10 yrs, Competitive 7-9 yrs GREEN BALL: Full Court Tennis Green Ball is 25% slower and a regular court is used, without the alley. Recreation 10+ yrs, Competitive 9-10 yrs REGULAR BALL: Full Court Tennis JUNIOR TENNIS ACADEMY: Designed for players ready to commit more time to training. This program is for juniors who want to develop their skills in order to become strong recreational tennis players or evolve into high performance competitors. JUNIOR ACADEMY SELECT: This program is suitable for players looking to add some intensity to their tennis training. The goal is to develop all aspects of the game in order to advance to the High Performance level. Players should consider competing in entry level OTA tournaments. HIGH PERFORMANCE: Players in this program must have excellent rallying skills, be able to have some success at changing the speed and spin of their shots and a desire to work hard to improve their game in a competitive environment. The players should be interested in competing in tournaments in their age categories at the provincial level. 9. > As with any sport, training and playing outside of lesson times is paramount to increasing an athletes ability. This flow chart is meant only as a rough indication of the natural progression through the tennis programs at Headwaters Racquet Club. Remember, each athlete will progress at their own individual pace.

11 JUNIOR TENNIS Give your child a head start in tennis. Lots of activity, movement and games, with an emphasis on FUN! Using smaller (light weight) racquets, sponge balls and mini nets, (all provided by the club) the young player will hit lots of balls and build confidence while participating in action oriented activities. 12 JUNIOR TENNIS CONTINUED RED BALL No more standing in line just to hit a few balls. Children start hitting the ball over the net with each other early in the session. Movement and technique are taught with an emphasis on doing rather than watching. Children will learn the basics of how to hold the racquet, how to hit the ball and how to move on the court, with the focus on having fun and playing games. 13 JUNIOR TENNIS CONTINUED ORANGE BALL Orange Ball players use the orange ball and play on a 3/4 court over a lowered net. This class focuses on learning correct technique and game strategy while promoting fun on the court. The orange ball not only helps the junior be successful more quickly, but is also the transition ball to full court playing. 16 JUNIOR TENNIS CONTINUED For enrollment in either of the following three programs an assessment must be done by the Head of Junior Development. Please contact the Racquets Department for more information. This two hour class is designed for kids who want to develop their skills in order to become strong recreational players or work towards becoming high performance competitors. The first hour is spent primarily working on improvement of specific skills such as strong rally balls, volleys, overheads, and serves. The second hour provides the opportunity to put these skills into play while the coaches critique both skills and playing strategy.
