The Herd is led by senior outside hitter, Laura Der, who has recorded 102 kills, averaging 2.83 per set and 115 digs. Marshall has been getting outstanding play from a pair of trio of freshmen Cassie Weaver, Elyse Panick and Ally Kiekover. Kiekover leads the team with 144 kills while Weaver has tallied 114 and Panick has 104. The Thundering Herd is led by Mitch Jacobs which is in his 12th year as Marshall s coach and 20th overall. Scouting the Owls Florida Atlantic enters the weekend 7-5 after winning its last match against former Conference USA foe UCF. The Owls are led by junior outside hitter Alessia Pizzoccheri, who has tallied 92 kills and 115 digs while junior middle blocker Ivana Bulajic has chipped in with 90 kills and 25 total blocks, 22 assisted and 3 solo. The Owls are led by second year head coach Fernanda Nelson. The Herd owns a 1-0 all-time record against FAU. Scouting the Panthers FIU enters the weekend 6-6 after falling to Purdue this past Saturday. The Panthers are led by junior outside hitter Ksenia Sukhareva who has tallied 143 kills, averaging 3.18 per set with a 107 digs. Senior middle blocker Kimberly Smith leads the team with a.383 hitting percentage while earning 134 kills and 48 total blocks, 40 assisted and eight solo. The Panthers are led by second year head coach Rita Buck-Crockett who also serves as the school s assistant athletic director and the head coach of the sand volleyball program. A DOZEN WITH MITCH JACOBS After leading the Marshall volleyball program for 11 years, head coach Mitch Jacobs returns for his 12th year at the helm. Jacobs arrived at Marshall in 2002 and has recorded 213 wins as Marshall s head coach, while tallying 395 wins as a coach in his career. During his time at Marshall, Jacobs has accumulated 79 Conference USA victories, 21 All-Conference USA selections, over 20 C-USA Players of the Week. He has also led five players to C-USA Player of the Year awards, four to All-American honors, and two teams to C-USA championships. Jacobs is also a two-time C-USA Coach of the Year and holds multiple coaching records at Marshall including career coaching victories, C-USA victories, percentage of games won, and consecutive win streaks. ACADEMICS In the past three seasons, the Thundering Herd has had a combined 31 student-athletes make the Conference USA Honor Roll, as well as had seven student-athletes get awarded the C-USA Commissioner s Medal for producing a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or more. Double-Double Tracker Four different players have recorded double-doubles on the season. Senior outside hitter Laura Der has five, with the last one coming in the upset of Maryland on Saturday when she tallied 18 kills and 16 digs. Junior setter Sammie Bane has recorded three double-doubles including two against Eastern Kentucky this season while freshman outside hitter Elyse Panick, has earned two double-double including a 16 kills and 15 digs in the Maryland match. Freshman outside hitter Cassie Weaver earned two with the last being in a 3-2 victory over Kent State. Michigan Invitational All-Tournament Freshman outside hitter Elyse Panick earned her first all-tournament honors in the Michigan Invitational Sept During the tournament she recorded 30 kills and 17 digs with her best performance coming in the upset win over Maryland where she tallied 16 kills while hitting.270 and 15 digs.

Twitter...@Herd Marshall Thunder Invitational All-Tournament The Herd swept its competition to be crowned Thunder Invitational champions on Sept Seniors Dorothy Rahal and Sacha Byous-McConnell and junior Sammie Bane were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts while Rahal was coined the tournament MVP as well.. During the Thunder Invite, she tallied 54 digs averaging 4.5 digs per set. Rahal s receive percentage for the weekend was.968 with only three errors. Rahal moved into third place in the all-time career digs list with 1,369 digs for her career. She is 389 digs shy of the school record and only 59 short of second place all-time. UIC Invitational All-Tournament Senior middle blocker Sacha Byous-McConnell earned a place on the UIC Invitational All-Tournament Team after leading the Herd with 33 kills with a.491 hitting percentage and five total blocks. Byous-McConnell ranks second on the team with 124 kills this season, behind freshman middle blocker Ally Kiekover, who has 144. Byous-McConnell s.341 overall hitting percentage ranks tenth in Conference USA. Jefferson Cup All-Tournament Freshman middle blocker Ally Kiekover was name to the Jefferson Cup All-Tournament Team for her efforts on Aug During the tournament she led the Herd in hitting percentage.447, that hitting percentage also led Conference USA after three matches. She also collected 25 kills and averaged 2.08 kills per set, while topping the club in blocks with eight, two solo and four assisted. Newcomers Doing Work The Herd welcomed in eight newcomers including seven freshman to its 2013 squad. Freshman middle blocker Ally Kiekover leads the team in kills (144) and blocks (40), 11 solo and 29 assisted while sophomore middle blocker Ashley Arnold, a transfer from Winthrop, is averaging.88 blocks per set and has collected 16 kills. Freshman outside hitter Cassie Weaver is third on the team with 114 kills and has also chipped in with 112 digs while fellow freshman hitter Elyse Panick has tallied 104 kills. Libero The Herd s defensive anchor Dorothy Rahal (Venice, Fla.) has picked up where she left off a year ago by tallying 222 digs while averaging 3.70 per set. Rahal recorded a program-record 4.45 digs per set a season ago while posting 525 digs, only five shy of the school record. Setter Junior setter Sammie Bane ranks six in Conference USA with 9.52 assists per set and has tallied 571 assists. She is currently fourth in all-time assists at Marshall.
