1 M c N e e s e S t a t e UPDATE - The Cowboys, now 5-6, are back on the road this week, playing at Rice (5-6) on Tuesday (7 p.m.) and at Texas Tech (10-1) on Friday (2 p.m.)...they will also be on the road on Jan. 4 in Baton Rouge against LSU (7 p.m.) RECORDS AND SERIES RESULTS: McNeese is 5-6 on the season and has won four of its last six games...rice is 5-6 on the year and droppd its last two games (77-61 to Lamar and to LSU)...nationally ranked Texas Tech is 10-1 and beat Stanford in its last outing...only loss for Texas Tech has been to Wichita State (85-83) on the road...mcneese is 1-0 vs Rice in that series (def. A former assistant coach at McNeese, Louisiana Tech and Northwestern State, Simmons has had his team in the Southland Conference post season tournament two of the past three years and in both of those tournaments his squad advanced to the semifinal round. His record with the Cowboys is and his first team posted a second place finish in the league race. Prior to becoming head coach at McNeese, Simmons had serve as an assistant coach with the Cowboys, with the Demons and with the Bulldogs when all won league titles. He was an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech when the team went to the NIT Final Four and made two NCAA appearances. He was an assistant at McNeese when the Cowboys won the league title and appeared in the NCAA, he was an assistant at Delta State when it won 24 games and appeared in the Division II Final Four and he was an assistant at Northwestern State when the Demons won back to back league crowns, participated in the NCAA and gave the SLC a first round NCAA victory for the first time since the 1980s. During a 26 year career he s coached more than 20 players who have gone on to play in the professional ranks including Karl Malone. Dave knows what it takes to be successful, said the former all-pro. Northwestern State coach Mike McConathay used Simmons as his right hand man from 1999 to He was such a hugh part in the success of our program, McConathay said. He s a guy who loves to teach the game, compete and win. He makes an impact on everybody around him.
