INGRASSIA REACHES THE CENTURY MARK Ninth-year head coach Mauricio Ingrassia registered career win No. 100 with the 49ers 2-1 victory over Michigan on Sunday, Sept. 2. Ingrassia, who has led LBSU to six 10-plus win seasons, owns a career record of Over the last six years, Ingrassia s teams have proved themselves to be one of the Big West s and NCAA s elite, claiming three regular season conference championships ( ), two Big West Tournament titles ( ) and making three NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2011, Ingrassia led Long Beach State to the NCAA Elite Eight after capturing a second consecutive Big West Tournament title and notching the program s fi rst postseason victory at No. 7 Pepperdine. In 2011, the 49ers registered a school-record 18 wins, eclipsing the previous high of 14, which the 2006, 2008 and 2010 squads had established. 5 MAURICIO INGRASSIA Head Coach Ninth Year Long Beach State soccer has grown into a national contender under the direction of ninth-year head coach Mauricio Ingrassia. After the program was reinstated in 1998, the 49ers did not have a winning season until Ingrassia took the reigns. Since his fi rst year in 2004, LBSU has won either a Big West regular season or tournament title fi ve times, made three NCAA Tournament appearances and set the school record for wins three times. Ingrassia has compiled an impressive overall record in his eight years at the helm. He has led the 49ers to a Big West title in fi ve of the last six years, and during that span, LBSU has posted a mark (.670) in conference play. In 2011, Long Beach State fi nished with an overall record in what was the greatest season in program history. The 49ers claimed their second consecutive Big West Tournament title and not only did they earn their fi rst NCAA Tournament win, but they advanced all the way to the Elite Eight with victories over No. 7 Pepperdine, Miami and San Diego. LBSU also shattered the single-season school record for wins (18), goals (49), assists (52) and points (150). Nadia Link, who tied the individual single-season school record with 16 goals, became the fi rst player in program history to earn NSCAA All-America honors. In 2008, the 49ers went , tying the single-season record for wins, while also establishing then school records in goals (44), assists (37), points (125) and shots (326). The record-breaking campaign, which saw Long Beach State go undefeated in league play at 7-0-1, culminated in the program s third-straight Big West regular season title, its fi rst at-large bid to the NCAA Division I Women s Soccer Championship and its fi rst appearance in the conference tournament fi nals. LBSU racked up the postseason awards as Ingrassia was recognized as the Big West Coach of the Year. Lindsay Bullock was named the conference s midfi elder of the year, while Liz Ramos earned top goalkeeper honors. In addition, the 49ers placed 10 student-athletes on the All-Big West team, with Bullock and Hayley Bolt also being named All-West Region selections. In 2009, Long Beach State suffered from the loss of 14 seniors from the previous season s championship squad as it fi nished with an overall record of during the rebuilding year. Three 49ers earned all-conference honors and Lindsay Bullock also garnered All-West Region recognition. In 2005, the nation s 15th-ranked recruiting class quickly paid dividends, going , as Hayley Bolt was named the Big West Conference s Co-Freshman of the Year and joined Kim Silos as a Soccer Buzz freshman All-American, fi rsts for the LBSU program, as were the national and regional rankings during the season. Even more impressive was the fact that upwards of eight freshmen were starters. A year older in 2006, the squad broke the school record for victories in a season, going and winning the franchise s fi rst Big West regular season title. LBSU also established itself in the top 25, remaining there for a good portion of the season. The defensive unit ranked 19th nationally in goals against average (0.64). Bolt was named the league s midfi elder of the year, while Silos was the offensive player of the year. Both players earned all-region honors, another fi rst for the program. In 2007, the 49ers won their second consecutive Big West title after posting a mark in conference action. Despite outshooting Cal Poly 21-to-3 in the Big West Tournament semifi nals, the 49ers fell by a single goal. Ingrassia s players have also been recognized internationally.
