1 Robert and Sue Whale present a Sunningdale Sunday Stroll Sunday 7th August 2016 at 2.15pm from The Nag's Head 28 High Street Sunningdale Berks SL5 0NG or phone The Walk: 3.3 miles (5.3 km) on generally flat roads, lanes & footpaths including a couple of woodland stretches. No stiles but can be very muddy in places, so buggy-pushers beware. The route also takes in the resting-place of actress Diana Dors and briefly borders Wentworth golf course. The Venue: The Nag's Head is a Harvey's pub on a quiet road (despite its 'High St' address) in Sunningdale, on borders of Surrey and Berkshire. Website: A very good choice of food is offered until 6pm on a Sunday (just pizzas after 6pm). Please call if you would like to book in advance. There is a small car park at the front of the pub and also street parking locally. OS Sheet 175 or 176 Grid Reference: Directions: By car: From M25, depending on approach, Either exit at jct 11, then take A317, A320, B386, B383 then right onto A30 (London Rd). Turn left onto Bedford Lane then continue to High St, pub is on your right. Or exit at jct 13, take A30 down to Virginia Water then bear right on A329. Turn left down B383 Silwood Rd shortly after passing Tittenhurst Park, then bear left into High St, pub is on the left. Public Transport: Nearest railway station is Sunningdale. There is a half-hourly service from Waterloo on a Sunday (departing Waterloo 9 and 39 minutes past each hour, returning from Sunningdale 25 and 55 minutes past). Exit station either by crossing line via footbridge or walking over level crossing, turn left, follow the A30 briefly then turn left along Broomhall Lane (B383), past Broomhall Farm, right along Station Rd and right again into Church Rd. Turn left up Trinity Crescent (just before church) to the pub. It's approximately 15 mins walk. Alternatively, Atlas Cars ( ) operate 24-7 from booth outside station.

3 Robert & Sue s Quiz Walk. Sunday 7th August 'The Nag's Head', Sunningdale, Berkshire. Distance: 3.3 miles Time allowed: 4 hours AT THE PUB: 1. We've ales for shy characters here one seems to be saddled with beer 3. Behave indiscreetly? You're exiled completely STAGE 1. Turn right out of pub and follow RH side of the road until you reach the third turning on the right (Kiln Lane) where stage ends. 4. Where high churchmen go To get a free throw 5. Not the barber's, but from the sound A healthy trim here can be found 6. From Stella to Ian Sounds a bit European STAGE 2. Turn right down Kiln Lane and follow this road which soon becomes a footpath with residential properties on the right. After a time you will pass Sunningdale Cemetery on your left. [It's not part of the walk but if you want to see the grave of Diana Dors and her husband Alan Lake it is but a brief diversion. After entering the cemetery, walk to the junction of paths then turn right. Their two graves are almost at the end of the path on the right, usually there are some nice flowers between the two stones]. Back on the QW route, keep ahead on path with houses and fence on your right all the way to the end, where you'll see the bowling club on your left. Turn left and follow this wide but quiet lane for 300 yards as it bears firstly to the right then to the left. Stage ends at footpath sign on the right. 7. Slapped on thick & coloured yellow Suggesting the genial Irish fellow 8. They took on the role of a truss But what else did they do for us? 9. Spooner might declare That it's Barbie's nightmare

4 STAGE 3. Turn right and take footpath through woods. Cross gravel track and continue ahead on path between polo fields, with wooden fence on right. At far end turn right along bridleway, stage ends at hanging sign by entrance to Barn car park. 10. Corrosion by teeth marks & age May affect their good work at some stage 11. Originally, a slave to hops Owner updated some elements the tops? 12. Distractedly fell, I bet But this means he only got wet Spare Clue. Homes for those on estate workers' wages? A bit excessive to keep them in cages... STAGE 4. Keep ahead on the bridleway, which goes gradually uphill, then down again, through a rather muddy stretch. Bear right onto gravel path, finally emerging onto the busy A30 road. Here turn right, keep to RH pavement and cross road with great care at the next pedestrian island. Continue to Shrubs Hill Lane, turn left and follow lane to junction just after Ridge House, where stage ends. 13. Odd bits of verse you must track We only see this looking back 14. Useful digit, one of four Deterring those who'd break the law 15. A thick-skinned septet stand guard And defy you to enter their yard STAGE 5. Bear right at junction then right again at The Moorings. At the far end, take path ahead on RH side (signposted Chimney Cottage). Continue past Chimney Cottage & keep straight ahead (ignoring footpath leading off to right). Follow path round to the left reaching residential crescent with green. Turn left, go about a third of the way around the green then take footpath between houses (Rosemullion & Highgate). Left at the end then immediately right into woods. At T-junction go left and keep ahead to reach edge of golf course. You are now at the 12th green and 13th tee of the Wentworth championship course; it's currently closed, we understand, for summer renovation but there are two other courses still in use on the site. Keep ahead round to the right then cross plank bridge to Thames Water station where stage ends. 16. They're employed, one senses To tackle minor offences 17. Alan and David, well-respected Both served their parties, when elected 18. It would need legs for getting about A few more seen on the fairways, no doubt!

5 STAGE 6. Ahead into woods. Follow well-marked path for some way until it eventually bears right and after crossing another short plank bridge, emerges onto smart residential road. Bear left here and follow this road (Heather Drive) to far end where stage ends. 19. For breaking less serious rules Some second-rate punishment tools 20. A flashing light's noted What word should be quoted? 21. After these two, seeing "Toad Hall" Would not surprise one at all There are no clues on the next stretch: Turn right on exit from Heather Drive (opp Newmans Place) and follow this road (Onslow Rd) until you reach circular green encountered previously. Go left and about a third of the way round, take the same bridleway you used earlier but in reverse direction. Quiz Walk resumes at footpath on left just after passing pumping station. STAGE 7. Take the footpath on left. On reaching A30, turn left then once again with great care cross road at next pedestrian island and go straight ahead down footpath on other side. Follow this footpath between fields until you reach T-junction with road. Turn left, then at crossroads keep ahead to right of church and back to pub. 22. Be rich & gated Having been renovated 23. Old PM who's reached maturity Is rarely observed with such security 24. Where Milton, we hear, went awry Crosby's musical buddy? Bull's-eye!
