NEWSLETTER Week 30 LIGUE 1 Week 29 review: Paris back on track as Lyon roar again Paris Saint-Germain bounced back from Champions League agony with a somewhat nervy 2-1 win in Lorient to stay within three points of leaders Monaco; Memphis Depay scored a stunner as OL backed up Europa League success with a big win over Toulouse. On paper, Paris Saint-Germain's trip to bottom club Lorient was well-timed, coming as it did just days after the historic 6-1 capitulation against Barcelona that saw the capital club dumped out of the Champions League. However, it was no walk in the park for Unai Emery's shell-shocked side, even though they emerged victorious to keep their hat in the title race. "The team dominated throughout the 90 minutes of the game. We managed to lead 2-0 and even though we conceded a goal, we held on. We stopped our opponents creating a lot of chances. These three points are important," said Emery after youngster Christopher Nkunku scored his first senior-team goal to clinch the result. "We dominated the game and the team played very well, even if they can do better. But I'm very happy with the team's work." Doubtless Leonardo Jardim was equally pleased after AS Monaco bagged a first home win over Bordeaux since , stretching their unbeaten run in Ligue 1 to 11 matches (nine wins). In-form youngster Kylian Mbappé struck his tenth of the season before Joao Moutinho curled an inch-perfect first time effort into the top corner for one of the weekend's several goal of the season contenders. "Bordeaux are a lot better organised than they were at the start of the season. They didn't leave us a lot of space," conceded Jardim ahead of Wednesday night's Champions League round of 16 return leg at home to Manchester city. "Teams have analysed us and they come here with a more defensive strategy. Against teams that only come forward on counter-attacks, you have to try and score without giving your opponents opportunities. In those terms, we put in a great performance." That captain Radamel Falcao returned from injury and laid on the assist for Mbappé's opener augurs well for the impending clash with City, but Monaco aren't the only ones looking good ahead of continental duties: Olympique Lyonnais are absolutely on fire and shaping up for a place in the Europa League quarters following a huge week. Bruno Genesio's men staged a staggering comeback to beat AS Roma 4-2 at the Parc OL on Thursday and duly followed suit as they returned to domestic duties at home to Toulouse on Sunday, running out 4-0 winners with Memphis Depay bagging a brace that included his own goal of the season contender, from near the half-way line. "We are scoring goals and creating chances. The goals we are scoring are extraordinary too and that is also good for the fans. And even if we were a bit lucky, we didn't concede a goal," said Genesio after the spectacular win that kept his side in the driver's seat for a fourth-placed finish. "That is very important going into the match on Thursday against Roma. We are in really great form." The weekend didn't work out so well for Lucien Favre's OGC Nice who, despite clinching a 2-2 to stretch their unbeaten run at the Allianz Riviera to 20 matches, dropped two crucial points in the title race and lost star midfielder Wylan Cyprien to a season-ending knee injury. "We are pleased to come away with the point. When you are 2-0 down at home, it is very complicated," said Favre, typically measured despite his side's now trailing second-placed PSG by two points. "Tonight Wylan Cyprien got injured. We will get a diagnosis at the start of next week, but it looks serious. We will need to find solutions for Nantes [Wk30]. That won't be an easy match." Meanwhile Marseille followed up on their 4-1 hammering of Lorient with an even more impressive 3-0 win over in-form Angers - who were coming of 03/17/2017 Ligue de Football Professionnel / Ligue1.com 1

four consecutive Ligue 1 wins - at the Stade Vélodrome on Friday, Florian Thauvin with a sparkling double to take his season tally to a personal-best ten. The win took OM into fifth place - their highest ranking so far this season - two points clear of Bordeaux and four clear of Saint-Etienne. ASSE managed to stop their slide down the table as talismanic captain Loïc Perrin struck late to clinch a 2-2 draw at home to a feisty Metz side who inched further clear of the drop zone. EA Guingamp haven't had too much to crow about in 2017 but Antoine Kombouaré's side claimed a fist-pumping 5-0 win over SC Bastia on Saturday, scoring a bevy of fine goals to climb back into the top half at the expense of Rui Almeida's strugglers, who had a player sent off for a record 13th time this season as they crumbled at the Stade du Roudourou. Nantes had lanky Argentine striker Emiliano Sala to thanks for a late, late 3-2 win in a thriller in Montpellier, while Rony Lopes proved the hero as LOSC claimed a much-needed 2-1 win away to 18th-placed Nancy. Stade Rennais continued to tread water with a division-topping 11th draw of the season (a distinction they share with Saint-Etienne), 1-1 at home to promoted Dijon, who are separated from the bottom three by goal difference alone. Week 29 reactions - Casoni: 'Paris are still Paris' FC Lorient coach Bernard Casoni was pleased with his struggling side's performance in the 2-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain, noting that the champions have lost nothing of their quality despite mid-week European agony. Sunday, March 12, 2017 FC Lorient 1-2 Paris Saint-Germain Bernard Casoni (FC Lorient coach): "We could have done better, especially with the first goal. We started the match well and we kept our shape throughout the match. My players stayed focused right to the end and I'm disappointed for them as they gave their all. But we won't be up against PSG every day, and this performance augurs well for the future. PSG are still a high-level team and aren't going to go to water just because of their loss to Barcelona. We had them on the back foot a couple of times and maybe they weren't as impactful as usual, but Paris are still Paris." Unai Emery (Paris Saint-Germain coach): "The team dominated throughout the 90 minutes of the game. We managed to lead 2-0 and even though we conceded a goal, we held on. We stopped our opponents creating a lot of chances. These three points are important. We dominated the game and the team played very well, even if they can do better. But I'm very happy with the team's work." Olympique Lyonnais 4-0 Toulouse FC Bruno Genesio (Lyon coach): "We got a few breaks in this match. Don't forget Toulouse hit the woodwork twice before we opened the scoring and without a bit of luck we could have been behind. We are scoring goals, creating chances. The goals we are scoring are extraordinary too and that is also good for the fans. And even if we were a bit lucky, we didn't concede a goal. That is very important going into the match on Thursday against Roma. We are in really great form. It is also interesting that we made a lot of changes. Certain players had not played a lot recently but they showed what they can do. We can therefore count on them. That is very positive too." Pascal Dupraz (Toulouse coach): "We almost didn't deserve to be behind at half-time. It was either bad luck or clumsiness from us, but we also conceded goals from half chances. We have a young team but everyone needs to be running together. There are still nine matches left and we don't want to spoil the end of our season. It is a blow that we will get up from." AS Saint-Etienne 2-2 FC Metz Christophe Galtier (Saint-Etienne coach): "It is a disappointment because we play matches looking to win them and we have not picked up a lot of 03/17/2017 Ligue de Football Professionnel / Ligue1.com 2

points recently. We managed to grab a point, which is better than nothing and mentally maybe it will affect us less than had we lost. So it is disappointing, but there is no anger. Loïc (Perrin) provided an assist for the first goal, cleared one off the line and then got the equaliser...it was a top-level performance from him, as he has often produced over a number of seasons now." Philippe Hinschberger (Metz coach): "We are extremely disappointed and frustrated with the result. It is true that before coming to Geoffroy-Guichard we would have considered a draw to be a good result, especially as we had lost six of our last seven away from home. We can't complain but we had the chances to finish it off. Saint-Etienne should build a statue for Perrin. It is two points dropped but still a good point in our bid to stay up." Saturday, March 11, 2017 AS Monaco 2-1 Girondins de Bordeaux Leonardo Jardim (Monaco coach): "Bordeaux are a lot better organised than they were at the start of the season. They didn't leave us a lot of space. You have to respect that idea, it also shows the value of our team. We tried incessantly to find space without leaving ourselves open to counter-attacks. Now we've got nine matches left till the end of the season. Teams have analysed us and they come here with a more defensive strategy. That's normal, it's not a criticism. Against teams that only come forward on counter-attacks, you have to try and score without giving your opponents opportunities. In those terms, we put in a great performance. Jocelyn Gourvennec (Bordeaux coach): "I'm disappointed to lose, frustrated too, because we managed to knock Monaco out of their stride. We were very disciplined to limit the space we gave them and to control Lemar and Silva. For a long time, they struggled to cope with us. We lost on a mistake at a set-piece and the talent of Moutinho. We didn't have what it takes to make them afraid in the final third. We needed to be better in our choices, our dribbles. Monaco are less dominant than Paris, but they have peaks. They'll be tough to catch, I think, because when it's a little bit difficult and things aren't working out how they want, they still manage to get it done." En Avant Guingamp 5-0 SC Bastia Antoine Kombouaré (Guingamp coach): "We scored in the second half even though we created more chances in the first. The first goal snuffed out Bastia's hopes. I'm proud of my players. They really put in a shift. Their work paid off. We put in a great performance. The point taken at Montpellier boded well. The boys put in the performance I had been looking for." Rui Almeida (Bastia coach): "We lost 5-0, I'm frustrated, the players too, but above all we lost three points. It's a difficult moment for all of us who work at the club. I'm not happy with the standard of the team's pressing. We lacked intensity. After keeping the scoreline level at the break, the key was the first goal we conceded. It wasn't the same game after the red card. There's nothing else to do. I hope to finish a match with 11 players very soon. We have to learn the lessons and work well before the match against Metz." Stade Rennais FC 1-1 Dijon FCO Christian Gourcuff (Rennes coach): "Luckily there are two halves, but even the second wasn't entirely satisfactory. At the end of the match, we were close to being taught a lesson with losses of possession, disorganisation. It was Russian roulette. It was a very difficult end to the game. We could have lost the game in the final ten minutes." Olivier Dall'Oglio (Dijon coach): "We didn't manage to keep possession. We were under pressure, we sat deep, but we didn't manage to keep the ball, so it kept coming back at us and coming back at us, and that's when we conceded. I think the first-half display was solid, controlled. We didn't have a lot of chances, but I think that we could have been a little more dangerous, just like at the end of the game when we had two or three chances. If we had handled things better, we could have sprung a surprise. But it's a good point. You know it's not going to be easy when you come to Rennes." AS Nancy Lorraine 1-2 LOSC Lille Pablo Correa (Nancy coach): "Overall, the game went quite well. But we lacked the clinical streak to get us a second goal, because we had chances. We experienced the worst scenario possible. There's nothing to say about the first goal, but there looked like a handball in the second. We took a lot of 03/17/2017 Ligue de Football Professionnel / Ligue1.com 3

shots, but didn't get many on target. We weren't able to get shots on target and our opponents were." Franck Passi (LOSC coach): "We're happy with the result, less so with the performance, because we were lucky. We controlled the game up to the goal, even if we didn't manage to score. We conceded and from then on, we weren't balanced. Fortunately we got back to winning ways with that penalty. Nancy, like us, were in trouble and the players aren't confident so it doesn't take much to knock things out of kilter. We are five points above the relegation zone and have moved closer to mid-table, which was important before Marseille. I hope it'll give the players the confidence to finish the season well." Montpellier Hérault SC 2-3 FC Nantes Jean-Louis Gasset (Montpellier coach): "We created a lot of chances. We played nicely, but a point wasn't enough for us. When we equalised, we continued attacking like madmen and got caught on the break. It's a catastrophic scenario for a match like that. Their will to win the match came from good intentions, but it hurts us in terms of points. If we concede three times, it's going to be difficult. Still, we managed to play some good football. If we need to tighten things up at the back, we also have to continue creating chances and playing well." Sergio Conceiçao (Nantes coach): "We're happy. After the game at Monaco, it was a sign of the character and personality of the team. Against a Montpellier team that is comfortable at home, it was a fantastic match. We started the game with a very promising tempo. We had four or five chances to score, but Montpellier scored instead. We probably put in our best first-half performance away from home, even if we had a little problem of balance. Our second half wasn't as spectacular, but we managed to score when Montpellier were on top." Friday, March 10, 2017 OGC Nice 2-2 SM Caen Lucien Favre (Nice coach): "We are pleased to come away with the point. When you are 2-0 down at home, it is very complicated. We have 63 points when we have been playing for two weeks now without our top scorer. Tonight Wylan Cyprien got injured. We will get a diagnosis at the start of next week. But it looks serious. Tonight we didn't have Younès (Belhanda) but we will get him back next week. We will need to find solutions for Nantes. That won't be an easy match." Patrice Garande (Caen coach): "We would have taken a point beforehand. I really liked the way we played up until half-time. After that it was to be expected that Nice would come back into it and we were playing so deep. When you are stuck in your 18-yard box it becomes complicated. We saw that during the week. It is a good point. A victory and a draw against Nice - not many teams have done that. I am a little bit disappointed with how we played in the second half. But we have won two and drawn one of our last four games and I would take the same again over the next four." Olympique de Marseille 3-0 Angers SCO Rudi Garcia (Marseille coach): "We decided to press high, start strongly and very quickly we got a goal. We also decided to be more compact and get forward quickly if we were in front, and Rémy (Cabella) scored a great goal. We gambled on using our technical ability and liveliness against the height and strength of Angers. To beat Angers, who had won five games in a row, and win 3-0, is a great performance. The victory is richly deserved even if the scoreline is harsh on them. Fourth place? If we can be capable of going on a great run and Lyon slip up then why not, but let's try and stay fifth first." Stéphane Moulin (Angers coach): "Four shots on target and three goals is a good statistic, and their victory is logical, but the scoreline is harsh. We knew about their individual quality in attack and the danger came from all over the place. We have the feeling that we had our chance and let it pass us by - it is incredible that we had seven shots on target and didn't score. But they have that ability to keep the ball moving and we tired ourselves out chasing after it. Not every team has the likes of Payet, Thauvin or Sanson in great form, Rémy Cabella. These are talented players. With Gomis who is not there as well. They will finish sixth, fifth or even fourth." 03/17/2017 Ligue de Football Professionnel / Ligue1.com 4

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Monaco dump Manchester City out of the Champions League Kylian Mbappé, Fabinho and Tiemoué Bakayoko scored as AS Monaco beat Manchester City FC 3-1 on Wednesday to book their passage to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals by virtue of away goals. Wednesday 15 March, 2017 UEFA Champions League last 16, second leg AS Monaco 3-1 Manchester City (6-6 on aggregate - Monaco progress on away goals) THE MATCH Monaco welcomed Manchester City to the Stade Louis II needing to win 2-0 or better to overturn their 5-3 deficit from the first leg, and they got off to a flying start with Mbappé turning home Bernardo Silva's cross from close range (8'). Mbappé had a goal ruled out for offside soon after (16'), but Leonardo Jardim's team wouldn't be denied, and Fabinho made it 2-0 in the night at 5-5 on aggregate inside the half-hour with a first-time finish from Benjamin Mendy's low delivery (29'). Thomas Lemar forced a save from Willy Caballero (35') and the hosts went in for the interval without having conceded a single shot on their goal. Mbappé continued terrorising the City defence after the restart, with Bacary Sagna making a stop after the teenager had flown past three of his colleagues (55'). The visitors finally began clicking into gear in the final half-hour, with Andrea Raggi called upon to cut out a Raheem Sterling pass intended for Sergio Aguero (58') before the Argentine mishit an effort over Danijel Subasic's crossbar (62'). Subasic denied Aguero one-on-one (65') before City's pressure finally told when Leroy Sané finished off Sterling's rebounded shot (71'). Monaco would have the final word, though, with Bakayoko's diving header from a Lemar free-kick sealing a 3-1 win on the night. THE PLAYER: Kylian Mbappé Mbappé has drawn comparisons with Monaco, Arsenal FC and France legend Thierry Henry in recent months and it's not difficult to see why. The 18-year-old has an electric turn of pace, impressive eye for goal, and brought up his 17th strike in all competitions with the opener. Didier Deschamps will name his Les Bleus squad for matches against Luxembourg and Spain on Thursday, and it would be a surprise not to see Mbappé included for the first time. THE STAT: 19 Monaco needed to win by a two-goal margin, and that's exactly what they did - for the 19th time this season. The principality club got to the final of this competition in 2004, and with City's scalp claimed, there is growing hope that this could be Les Rouges et Blancs' year. 03/17/2017 Ligue de Football Professionnel / Ligue1.com 5

Jardim: 'Monaco deserved it' AS Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim stated the Ligue 1 leaders "deserved" their victory over Manchester City and their place in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. Wednesday 15 March, 2017 UEFA Champions League last 16, second leg AS Monaco 3-1 Manchester City (6-6 on aggregate - Monaco progress on away goals) Tiémoué Bakayoko (Monaco midfielder): "I saw that I was a little bit in front, and I managed to take it well and put it in the corner. It's an immense joy, I didn't expect it. To be able to do that in front of my family makes me so happy. There were a lot of goals, but it was a tight match and we were able to score the goals we needed away and be solid at home. If we're in this position, it's not down to luck. We've put in a lot of effort. It's magnifcent what we have done today, we're really proud. We deserve it." Leonardo Jardim (Monaco coach): "Over the two games, Monaco deserved to go through. We had already knocked out Arsenal and Tottenham, now it's Manchester City. To go through to the quarter-finals again is also recognition of the work we have done on an international level. Tonight, Monaco showed that we're a team that plays well, which has ambition. We put in 45 minutes of great quality, we could have led 3-0. In the second half, our opponents had a response, it's normal, but we held out well. It's a great win for the whole of France, we're the last representatives, not for the first time. The season will still be very long, we need to conserve all our energy for the end of the season, but it'll be difficult." Kylian Mbappé (Monaco forward): "We wanted to show them that it wasn't going to be their day and that it would well and truly be ours. We camped out in their half of the pitch. They suffered a real blow when they went 2-0 down after 29 minutes. They certainly didn't expect that. My eyes are shining, it's a dream, and I hope it's only the start." Bernardo Silva (Monaco midfielder): "At 2-1, we didn't falter. That's what has been our strength this season, we're not afraid to play. Even at 3-2 in Manchester, we continued playing and that's also why we conceded five goals. But this evening, we're very happy. Thanks to Bakayoko for taking us into the quarter-final. There are only fantastic teams left. We now dream of going further." Pep Guardiola (Manchester City manager): "Firstly, well done to Monaco. At this level, we have to play for more than 45 minutes. We had a lot of chances in the second half, yes, but we made a mess of 45 minutes. Our strength is to be aggressive with and without the ball. We were a little slow in everything we did in the first half, that's why playing against Europe's top teams is difficult. We created chances, we missed a lot of them. The goal we conceded from a set-piece broke our tempo, our rhythm and our enthusiasm when we were on top. This competition is so demanding. I hope we're going to learn from this defeat to come here next season and be like we were at the Etihad or in the last 45 minutes here." 03/17/2017 Ligue de Football Professionnel / Ligue1.com 6

LES BLEUS Mbappé gets maiden France call Teen sensation Kylian Mbappé and three other AS Monaco stars lead a 13-strong Ligue 1 contingent in the France squad selected for this month's FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier with Luxembourg and friendly against Spain. Just over 12 hours after helping fire Monaco into the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, Mbappé, 18, was named for the first time in the senior France squad alongside club team-mates Thomas Lemar, Benjamin Mendy and Djibril Sidibé. "They have always been a side that brings through young players," Les Bleus' boss Didier Deschamps said of his former club after unveiling the squad at French Football Federation headquarters in Paris. "They're players who are playing very well with their club, who are improving. The majority have played for the U21 side, they're players who are continuing their progress." Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain have five players in the squad, while Olympique de Marseille have two, including a maiden call for Florian Thauvin. "He's a player who has specific qualities, is capable of making the difference, can score and make others score," said Deschamps, outlining the talents of the OM man, who has ten L1 goals and six assists this season. "He's more consistent this year. Before that, he'd been a bit up and down, he'd had a dip, but now he's a lot more consistent, he has very good stats for an attacking player." Stade Rennais FC goalkeeper Benoît Costil is also included while Corentin Tolisso is Olympique Lyonnais' sole representative. The full squad Goalkeepers: Areola (Paris Saint-Germain), Costil (Rennes), Lloris (Tottenham Hotspur) Defenders: Kimpembe (Paris Saint-Germain), Koscielny (Arsenal), Kurzawa (Paris Saint-Germain), Mendy (Monaco), Rami (Sevilla), Sagna (Manchester City), Sidibé (Monaco), Umtiti (Barcelona) Midfielders: Kanté (Chelsea), Lemar (Monaco), Matuidi (Paris Saint-Germain), Pogba (Manchester United), Rabiot (Paris Saint-Germain), Tolisso (Lyon) Forwards: Dembélé (Borussia Dortmund), Gameiro (Sevilla FC), Giroud (Arsenal), Griezmann (Atletico Madrid), Mbappé (Monaco), Payet (Marseille), Thauvin (Marseille) 03/17/2017 Ligue de Football Professionnel / Ligue1.com 7

EUROPA LEAGUE Lyon into quarters after holding off Roma Olympique Lyonnais have qualified for the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals despite slipping to a 2-1 defeat at AS Roma on Thursday in a gripping second leg that meant the Ligue 1 side go through 5-4 on aggregate. Thursday 16 March, 2017 UEFA Europa League, round of 16, second leg Stadio Olimpico, Rome AS Roma 2-1 Olympique Lyonnais (agg. 4-5) THE MATCH The 4-2 first-leg scoreline in Lyon's favour did not tell the whole story of a game in which Roma had dominated for extended periods and had led 2-1 at one stage. With their pride pricked and their European ambitions in the balance, the home side unsurprisingly burst out of the blocks. Antonio Rüdiger struck the Lyon crossbar as early as six minutes in with Mohamed Salah forcing a save from Anthony Lopes with his follow-up effort; the Egyptian forward and the Portuguese goalkeeper were at it again shortly afterwards with the OL number one once more standing firm (12'). Set-pieces can often prove a useful way to emerge from a sticky situation, and in Mathieu Valbuena, OL have a leading exponent of the art. The France international midfielder's flighted delivery found Mouctar Diakhaby rising to send a powerful header past Alisson (16') and give Bruno Genesio's men a potentially crucial away goal. Kevin Strootman's acrobatic finish to Daniele De Rossi's free-kick just two minutes later (18') meant OL were unable to settle on their lead, and Roma were clearly intent on making it as uncomfortable an evening as possible for their guests. Radja Nainggolan zapped a long-range drive just wide (33') before a Salah backheel gave Strootman an opportunity for a second - the Dutch international could not beat Lopes, however, despite having two attempts to do so (41'). A Nainggolan header provoked a flying save from Lopes (47'), but even the UEFA EURO 2016 winner could do nothing when Stephan El Shaarawy's driven cross ricocheted off OL midfielder Lucas Tousart and into his own net (60'). Former AS Monaco man El Shaarawy flashed a shot just wide (64') as Roma immediately sought to claim the third goal that would take them into Friday's last eight draw. Edin Dzeko thought he had it when he fired in the rebound after Lopes had parried an El Shaarawy cross into his path (74'), but the offside flag ruled the Bosnia-Herzegovina international forward's effort out. Roma's push forward inevitably left space for OL to exploit, and Roma goalkeeper Alisson had to deny Corentin Tolisso (77') and rush out to smother at the feet of Maxwel Cornet (85') before saving from Nabil Fekir in added time (90+3'). Just seconds before that stop, Dzeko had had an opportunity to snatch qualification away from Lyon but headed over (90+2') while Christophe Jallet's block to El Shaarawy's goalbound shot in the dying seconds (90+5') clinched OL's berth among the best eight teams in the competition. THE PLAYER: Anthony Lopes The OL goalkeeper halted seven goalbound shots to send his side through. THE STAT: 2 It is the second time in the last four years OL have reached the quarter-finals of the competition. 03/17/2017 Ligue de Football Professionnel / Ligue1.com 8

Genesio: 'Drive and character' Olympique Lyonnais boss Bruno Genesio aims to go all the way in the Europa League after his side weathered the storm to eliminate AS Roma and book a place in the quarter-finals. Thursday 16 March, 2017 UEFA Europa League, round of 16, second leg Stadio Olimpico, Rome AS Roma 2-1 Olympique Lyonnais (agg. 4-5) Luciano Spalletti (AS Roma coach): "There are never regrets. You go out, certainly over the two legs we went out because of some naïve errors and right now we don't have the nous you need in these games that can give you a big advantage. We lost our way in the second half out there after taking the lead. But we deserved more for the way we controlled the game tonight. I didn't see a big difference between the teams. Out there we stopped playing at a certain stage and tonight we were unable to turn it around, despite giving everything we had in front of these wonderful fans. Maybe this is what we deserve, but it doesn't seem right to me." Bruno Genesio (Olympique Lyonnais coach): "We were very, very courageous and we really played as a team - indispensable qualities when you're playing against a team like Roma. Now we'll dive right into preparations for what's waiting for us at the Parc (against PSG). Roma are pone of the best teams in this competition so we really pulled off a feat tonight. Tonight we saw the importance of Alexandre Lacazette's fourth goal in the first leg, but really all the players and members of the coaching staff are to be congratulated. It's a huge pleasure to take OL into the quarter-finals. We still have the objective of going all the way but there are a lot of good teams left in the competition and we have to stay humble. Still, we showed a lot of drive and character." Jean-Michel Aulas (Olympique Lyonnais president): "It was really tough; it felt like Roma could score at any moment. But showed incredible mental toughness. Roma pushed but we saw that we could create chances too, especially at the end when we missed some chances to kill it off. Roma put us under incredible pressure. Friday's draw? I have no preferences, I haven't seen who else qualified other than Manchester and Celta. For this round, we said we wanted anyone but Roma - and we got Roma - so we won't be making any demands this time. It's a quarter-final so we'll do what it takes to rise to the occasion. We'll continue to repeat that when you want to win a competition, you have to knock out big teams. We absolutely want to win a European trophy and make French football proud, as Monaco did on Wednesday night." 03/17/2017 Ligue de Football Professionnel / Ligue1.com 9
