2 PREVIEW : OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS - PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN Feature Preview Thiago Silva believes Paris Saint-Germain's meeting with Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday will be "a special game" between two of Ligue 1's most impressive performers this season. The pair came into Week 24 with OL top of the table and Paris just two points behind in third place, the duo sandwiching Olympique de Marseille at the business end of the French top flight. They go head-to-head at the Stade Municipal de Gerland on Sunday evening in a mouthwatering contest, but Silva does not believe the destiny of the title will be decided come the final whistle in Lyon. "It's a special game, because we are close to Lyon in the league, and we both need to win," explained the Paris captain to This is Paris. "It should be a great game, because it often is when two teams play each other to win. The supporters should enjoy it. We have a lot of respect for this team, who are having a great season. I think their new coach has changed something in the team, particularly in terms of motivation. It'll be a special game, important, but not decisive." Following their Coupe de la Ligue semi-final victory over LOSC Lille on Wednesday, Paris remain in contention in all three domestic competitions as well as the Champions League. OL, by contrast, only have to focus on Ligue 1 now, and that gives them an advantage and makes them serious title challengers, according to Silva. "Lyon only have the league to play for, and when you play just one game a week, you have the time to prepare yourself well, especially physically," the Brazil international, who scored in Paris 4-0 defeat of OL in the capital last season. "As for us, we play games every three days with a lot of big matches. That takes a lot of energy, both physically and mentally. But we are fortunate enough to have a quality squad. And when you have a dream in mind it is always easy to shut out all of that and work even more to achieve it." Having dropped out of the Europa League before the group stage, and seen their Coupe de la Ligue and Coupe de France challenges halted, OL can afford to be single-minded. They have proven utterly ruthless in recent weeks, winning seven successive games before last weekend's goalless draw at AS Monaco that kept them two points clear of OM and Paris. The point at the Stade Louis II may have brought to an end their breathtaking series of wins, but a draw against Leonardo Jardim's in-form side was not a bad result, particularly given the injury-enforced absence of Alexandre Lacazette. "Everyone puts in a little more, as you could see," said OL boss Hubert Fournier, who will be without Ligue 1's leading scorer for another two weeks. "Up against one of the best teams in the league and the best defence in Europe, we even managed to create some good chances that we couldn't put away. I'm not certain that Alex, if he had been there, would have converted them. "I liked the way my team responded. 3 - HISTORY: Olympique Lyonnais have won 15 of their 35 league games at home to Paris Saint-Germain, who have triumphed on eight occasions. - THIS SEASON: The duo drew 1-1 when they met in Paris in Week 6. Edinson Cavani (20') put the hosts ahead, but Samuel Umtiti (84') equalised. - LAST SEASON: OL won 1-0 in Week 33 - Jordan Ferri (31') scored the only goal of the game. The Week 15 meeting at the Parc des Princes had ended 4-0 to the eventual champions. Cavani (36'), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (41' pen., 83' pen.) and Thiago Silva (60') found the net. - Just six days after their league defeat in Lyon, Paris won 2-1 when the pair met in the Coupe de la Ligue final on 19 April. Cavani (4', 33' pen.) scored Paris' goals with Alexandre Lacazette (56') replying. - OLD BOYS: Christophe Jallet left Paris to join OL last summer. He made 133 L1 appearances (7 goals) for them having switched from FC Lorient in summer 2009, winning back-to-back Ligue 1 titles at the Parc des Princes. - Milan Bisevac spent the season at Paris following a transfer from Valenciennes FC. He played 19 times (1 goal, with the assist coming from Jallet) for the capital club before joining OL the following summer. - OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS - GENERAL: Lyon come into Week 24 in first place in Ligue 1 with 49 points, having won 15, drawn four and lost four of their games to date. They are two points clear of second-placed Olympique de Marseille and third-placed Paris Saint-Germain. - Hubert Fournier's side were second after the opening round of games but slumped to 17th after Week 4 before climbing back up the table. They were third in between beating Marseille 1-0 at the end of October and then climbing to second at the end of Week 19. They hit top spot after Week 20's 3-0 home win over Toulouse. Alexandre Lacazette scored twice in that game, joining Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez as the only men to have scored braces in four successive league games in Europe's top five leagues in the last ten years. - In their last outing, Lyon drew 0-0 at AS Monaco. - Their draw at the Stade Louis II ended a run of seven consecutive Ligue 1 wins. They have lost just one (v ASSE, 3-0 Wk 15) of their last 19 Ligue 1 games, a run stretching back to the September international break. They have collected 46 points in that period, the best record in that time. - OL have scored a Ligue1-leading 47 goals in 23 games so far this season. Lyon have scored three goals or more in nine games, including four in a row from Week 17 to Week 20, as well as in the 5-1 win over Montpellier (Wk 10). They have failed to score at all in just four matches. - Lacazette is the leading scorer in Ligue 1 with 21 goals. He was OL's leading scorer last season with 15 in Ligue 1 and 22 in all competitions. Lacazette has 36 goals in 58 Ligue 1 games since the start of last season. - Lacazette's has scored doubles in six matches this season, including four in a row from Week 17 to Week Fekir has scored eight, Tolisso has four while Steed Malbranque and Yoann Gourcuff have both netted three times in Ligue 1. - Clinton Njie, Lacazette and Fekir have managed five assists this season - only Marseille's Dimitri Payet (8) has more. Jordan Ferri has provided four. - Lyon had the joint third-best attack in Ligue 1 last season with 56 goals. Only Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco scored more. - Hubert Fournier's side have conceded 17 goals, an average of under one per game. They have kept 11 clean sheets, including in each of their last six league games, while the 3-0 defeat at derby rivals Saint-Etienne is the only occasion on which they have conceded more than twice. - Goalkeeper Anthony Lopes and Christophe Jallet have started all 23 matches so far this season. Marseille have also picked up 33 points from 12 home games, but have an inferior goal difference (+18 to +25). - Fournier's side have scored 30 goals and conceded five in front of their own fans. No L1 team has scored more times at home while only Paris, Saint-Etienne and LOSC Lille can match OL's defensive record on home soil. - Twelve of Lacazette's goals have come at home. - OL have beaten Rennes (2-0, Wk 1), AS Monaco (2-1, Wk 5), Lorient (4-0, Wk 7), LOSC Lille (3-0, Wk 9), Montpellier (5-1, Wk 10), Marseille (1-0, Wk 11), EA Guingamp (3-1, Wk 13), Stade de Reims (2-1, Wk 16), Caen (3-0, Wk 18), Toulouse (3-0, Wk 20) and Metz (2-0, Wk 22). They entered the Europa League in the third qualifying round, defeating Czech side Mladá Boleslav 6-2 on aggregate. However, they were eliminated in the play-offs by last season's Romanian top flight runners-up FC Astra Giurgiu, losing on away goals after the tie ended 2-2 on aggregate. - JANUARY TRANSFERS IN: Maxwell Cornet (Metz) - OUT: Gaël Danic (SC Bastia), Jérémy Frick (Servette, SUI, loan) - TEAM NEWS: Forced off with a thigh injury shortly after scoring against Metz, Lacazette will miss OL's next two league games at least. Clément Grenier (groin) and Guieda Fofana (ankle) both missed the Metz game. Lyon have several players away on Africa Cup of Nations duty. Mehdi Zeffane (Algeria), Henri Bédimo and Clinton Njie (both Cameroon) are back from the Nations Cup and are in contention. After rupturing knee ligaments against Monaco, Milan Bisevac is out for six months. - PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN - GENERAL: Paris come into Week 24 in third place with 47 points from 23 games. They have won 13, drawn eight and lost two of their games to date and are two points behind leaders Olympique Lyonnais, although they trail Olympique de Marseille in second only on goals scored. - Laurent Blanc's side have not been higher than second in the table this season. However, they have been permanent members of the top four since a 2-0 win at Caen on September 24 (Wk 7). - Last weekend, Blanc's side won 1-0 at home to Stade Rennais FC. They have scored three goals or more on fiveseparate occasions this season, including in their 5-0 demolition of Saint-Etienne in Week 4. They have failed to score in three games. - Zlatan Ibrahimovic is their leading scorer with nine Ligue 1 goals, followed by Edinson Cavani with eight and Lucas with seven. - Ibrahimovic and Cavani have both scored 15 goals in all competitions, while Lucas has eight. Marco Verratti (4) has provided the most assists with Javier Pastore on three. - Ibrahimovic finished Ligue 1 top scorer for the second successive season last season with 26 goals, four fewer than his previous campaign in France. Team-mate Cavani was the top flight's joint-second top scorer with 16 goals. - Ibrahimovic scored 41 goals in all competitions last season, beating Carlos Bianchi's previous club record of 39 goals in one campaign, set in Cavani netted 25 altogether and Ezequiel Lavezzi got 12 goals in total. - Ibrahimovic provided 11 assists last season, a tally bettered only by AS Monaco's James Rodríguez (12). - PSG's total of 84 goals scored last season was the highest of any Ligue 1 team - Monaco, who had the second-highest tally, scored Paris have conceded 19 goals thus far. Only Saint-Etienne (15), Lyon (17) and Monaco (18) have let in fewer coming into the weekend. They have kept ten clean sheets so far. Their recent 4-2 defeat at Bastia was the first time they had let in four goals in a game since a 4-4 draw at Lyon in February PSG conceded a league-low 23 goals last season, three fewer than LOSC Lille, who had the second-best defensive record. - No Paris player has appeared in every league game this season.
