2 PREVIEW : PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN - TOULOUSE FC Feature Preview An unbeaten Toulouse side stand between Paris Saint-Germain and a first home win of the season when the clubs meet at the Parc des Princes on Friday evening. Toulouse head to the capital in confident mood after a solid start to the campaign which has seen them win two and draw two of their opening four matches. That means they lie two points and three places above PSG in the fledgling table. However, history suggests that they will do well to take anything from their trip to the 16th arrondissement. The TFC have won just twice in their last 16 top-flight visits to PSG, with their last trip ending in a 3-1 defeat back in January. In Carlo Ancelotti's first Ligue 1 game in charge of les Rouges et Bleus, and his home bow, Paris won 3-1 with Nenê scoring twice and Javier Pastore also on target. Indeed, PSG are unbeaten in 13 home league games since a shock 1-0 loss at the hands of Nancy in November last year. And after a slow start to this season, they finally showed the rest of France what they can do with a 2-1 victory away at Lille in their last outing prior to the international break, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring both goals for the visitors at the Grand Stade to take his tally for the season to four. Now Ancelotti is targeting a first home win of the season after seeing his side held by Lorient and Bordeaux at the Parc last month. "Our aim is to build on our performance against Lille," the Italian said on the eve of the game. "We played well there tactically, with quality and speed. Toulouse are a good team, physical, well organised, and with quality players. It will not be easy but this will be an important moment for us. Toulouse will come here to defend well, just like Bordeaux. We need to play with greater speed and with more movement, just as we did in the first half against Lille." This fixture was brought forward to Friday night to give PSG an extra day to prepare for their Champions League clash at home to Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday. Their Group A opener is also their first match in Europe's leading club competition since 2004 and Paris' Qatari owners will be desperate to make a big impression on the biggest stage of all. However, Ancelotti is confident the match will not act as a distraction when Toulouse come to town. "It will be easy (to motivate the squad) because we are totally focused on the match against Toulouse," he said. "We cannot think about the Kiev game, we will have time to prepare for that, and sufficient time to recover before it too. We are focused on winning on Friday. That is the best way to prepare for the Kiev game. I will be sending out my best team." His best team should include Mamadou Sakho, despite the defender playing two games for France over the past week. However, Ezequiel Lavezzi is left out just three days after playing for Argentina in a World Cup qualifier in Peru. There is also no place in the squad for the club's newest signing, Gregory Van der Wiel. He could make his debut against Dynamo Kyiv, as could Brazil captain Thiago Silva. Toulouse will be hoping that their star man, Etienne Capoue, has fully recovered from making his first start for France, and scoring his first international goal, in Tuesday's 3-1 win against Belarus at the Stade de France. Portuguese winger Yannick Djaló could make his debut after signing on loan from Benfica. "They are a Champions League team, we are a long way from being that," admits Toulouse coach Alain Casanova. "To go to the Parc des Princes and play against these guys, it's extraordinary, but we have a game to play and it will be a very complicated. On paper we have no chance but we will go there and look to use our phyiscal, mental and tactical qualities. The first idea will be to defend well. 3 -HISTORY: Paris Saint-Germain have played host to Toulouse on 24 previous occasions in the top flight, winning 14, drawing six and losing just four. - Toulouse have won on just two of their last 16 visits to the Parc des Princes on league duty. They were 2-1 winners in the capital in December, 2007 thanks to a brace from Johan Elmander. Then, in October 2008, a Zoumana Camara own-goal handed them a 1-0 victory. -PSG?s biggest home wins against Toulouse have all been by 3-0 margins, in November, 1985, April 1991 and in March In the latter game, Jay Jay Okocha, Laurent Leroy and Nicolas Anelka got the goals. -Paris have won their last three home meetings with Toulouse. Last season?s corresponding fixture between the clubs was Carlo Ancelotti?s first Ligue 1 game in charge of PSG and his bow at the Parc des Princes. The capital side won 3-1 thanks to goals from Nenê (38?, 68?) and Javier Pastore (56?). Daniel Braaten (88?) netted for Toulouse. Maxwell made his PSG debut in the game. -The other meeting of the clubs last season also ended in a 3-1 win PSG victory at Le Stadium on August 28, Etienne Capoue (39?) put Toulouse in front before Kévin Gameiro (56?), Mevlut Erding (90?) and Jérémy Menez (90+3?) all scored for PSG. -PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN -GENERAL: Paris Saint-Germain come into Week 5 in eighth place in Ligue 1 with six points from four games. They trail leaders Marseille - the only side still with a perfect record? by six points, and lie four points behind second-placed Lyon. However, they are five points clear of the relegation zone. -PSG are one of six clubs still unbeaten after four Ligue 1 fixtures. The last time that Paris were unbeaten four games into a season was in , when they finished in 13th place. -After four games last season, PSG sat third in the table with seven points, two points behind leaders Montpellier. -In their last outing prior to the international break, PSG won 2-1 at Lille. They are 13 home Ligue 1 games without defeat since a 1-0 loss at the hands of Nancy on November 20 last year. -Paris? average attendance of 39,633 is the highest in Ligue 1 so far this season, ahead of Lille (38,519). 4 -CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: For their first foray into Europe?s premiere club competition since 2004/05, PSG were drawn in Group A alongside Dynamo Kyiv (UKR), Dinamo Zagreb (CRO) and FC Porto (POR). They begin their campaign at home to Dynamo Kyiv on September 18. -Diego Lugano, Siaka Tiéné and Peguy Luyindula were all left out of PSG?s 25-man squad for the competition. -INTERNATIONALS: Salvatore Sirigu and Marco Verratti were unused substitutes in each of Italy?s two World Cup qualifiers over the last week, against Bulgaria and Malta. -Mamadou Sakho started in France?s World Cup qualifying wins away to Finland (1-0) and at home to Belarus (3-1). Jérémy Menez started in Finland, before coming on as a late substitute against Belarus. They trail leaders Marseille - the only side still with a perfect record - by four points, and lie two points adrift of second-placed Lyon. -After four games last season, Toulouse were fourth in the table with seven points, two points behind leaders Montpellier and with an identical record to PSG. -In their last outing prior to the international break, Toulouse drew 1-1 with Stade de Reims at Le Stadium. Wissam Ben Yedder came off the bench in that game before starting in their 4-0 friendly win against Chile in La Rochelle. -Cheik M?Bengué started for Senegal in their 4-2 defeat to Ivory Coast in a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations second-round first-leg qualifier in Abidjan last weekend. -Aymen Abdennour played for Tunisia in their 2-2 draw in Sierra Leone in a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations second-round first-leg qualifier last weekend. -Etienne Capoue started in France's World Cup qualifying win at home to Belarus and scored the game's opening goal. Marc Vidal, Mickaël Firmin and Yannick Aguemon are all left out of a 19-man squad. -TRIVIA: PSG assistant coach Claude Makelele was on Thursday cleared of a charge of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Thandi Ojeer. Ojeer, an events organiser who had a two-year relationship with Makelele, had accused him of punching her in the face during a dispute at the home they once shared in the Paris suburbs in October The pair had already split up. A state prosecutor had asked for the former France international to be given a five-month suspended prison sentence while Ojeer had claimed 90,000 euros in damages. -PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti has been handed a suspended two-match touchline ban following his dismissal from the dugout in the 0-0 draw at Ajaccio in Week 2. -Nicolas Douchez played for Toulouse between , making 86 Ligue 1 appearances, before joining Rennes. -Jonathan Zébina and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were teammates at Juventus between before the latter left for Internazionale. 6 - Promoted to the French first division for the first time in 1974, PSG are the only French club never to have been relegated from Ligue 1, and are taking part in their 37th consecutive season in the top flight. - Ligue 1 champions in 1986 and 1994, PSG have won eight Coupes de France (1982, '83, '93, '95, '98, 2004, 2006, 2010) and three Coupes de la Ligue (1993, '98, 2008). - PSG's last piece of silverware came when they beat Monaco 1-0 in the Coupe de France final. The 30-year-old is on reported wages of 1 million Euros a month (after tax) which some in the French Socialist government labelled as "indecent". - On the same day Ibrahimovic signed, Italy's U-21 midfield star Marco Verratti, whom some have compared to Andrea Pirlo, joined from promoted Serie A side Pescara for a fee of around 11 million Euros. - Nene was PSG's top scorer in the season with 21 goals (nine penalties). 7 - Average home attendance 40,822 (90% of capacity). Toulouse FC - Toulouse have never won the French league. Their highest-ever finish is third, which they achieved in , and again in The latter performance qualified the TFC for their only Champions League campaign to date (eliminated in the third qualifying round by Liverpool (ENG), 5-0 on aggregate). - Toulouse's only top-tier silverware remains the 1957 Coupe de France, although they have been crowned Ligue 2 champions on three occasions (1953, '81 and 2003). - After finishing 17th in Ligue 1 in 2001, TFC were relegated to the third tier by France's financial watchdog, the DNCG. They came back up in 2003 and have been in Ligue 1 ever since. - For the second season running, Toulouse finished eighth in Ligue 1 in , with 56 points. They were knocked out of the Coupe de France in the round of 64 by third-tier Gazélec Ajaccio and out of the Coupe de la Ligue by OGC Nice in the round of Toulouse conceded just 34 goals in , giving them the joint-best defensive record in Ligue 1 along with champions Montpellier. However, they scored just 37 goals, with only Lorient and Brest managing fewer over the course of the season.
