2 PREVIEW : VALENCIENNES FC - AS MONACO FC Feature Preview Monaco coach Claudio Ranieri insists PSG's midweek loss to Rennes has left him with no regrets. The Italian coach defended his Monaco record ahead of Monaco's final away game of the season at relegated Valenciennes. Monaco drew 1-1 with Coupe de France winners Guingamp at the Stade Louis II on Wednesday evening; a result which ensured Paris Saint-Germain would retain their title even before they took to the field against beaten Coupe de France finalists Rennes. Dimitar Berbatov opened the scoring for under-par Monaco against Guingamp with the club's 3000th Ligue 1 goal but visiting sub Fatih Atik equalised to deny Ranieri's side the win they required to ensure the title suspense would continue. Ranieri said on Thursday: "I think that if we'd beaten Guingamp then PSG would have won as well." The previous night he commented: "It's over, we can no longer win the title. They're the strongest team, they've played well and won lots of games. Congratulations to PSG as they're a great team. They didn't enjoy any luck in the Champions League but that's football. I think at the end of the season I will meet the club's board and I hope I'll still be in charge of the team. It's not enough to be a nice man, I think I'm a good coach too. My two seasons with Monaco and my career are the proof of that. I'm very satisfied with my career." The speculation over Ranieri's future continues unabated with Sporting Lisbon coach Leonardo Jardim and Benfica boss Jorge Jesus the latest names to be linked to the post. Ranieri, the oldest coach in Ligue 1 at the age of 62, returned to defending his coaching record in Thursday's pre-match press conference. The former Chelsea manager said: "In my career I've had more good seasons than average ones. The last two seasons with AS Monaco have been among the good seasons." Ranieri, nicknamed 'the Tinkerman' in his time at Chelsea, will shuffle his pack for the last two fixtures of the season, at Valenciennes and then at home to Bordeaux. He said: "There will be lots of changes to the starters in the last two games." Jérémy Toulalan (head), Geoffrey Kondogbia (left ankle) and Danijel Subasic (left thigh) all came out of the Guingamp game with injuries. Radamel Falcao and Fabinho (both knee) are out for the rest of the season but left-back Layvin Kurzawa could return from a thigh problem. Valenciennes' eight-year tenure in the top division was ended last weekend when they fell 1-0 at home to Bordeaux, a fifth straight defeat for Ariël Jacobs' side. The former Anderlecht coach said: "When it comes to relegation we're all guilty. There's not one single reason, more an amalgam of events all throughout the season. The most important thing is not me or the players, but the future of the club. "For the last home game of the season we are playing Monaco, one of the two clubs that competed for the Ligue 1 title. As a squad we're facing up to a challenge. We need to conduct ourselves in the most honourable fashion possible. Will I be looking to next season when it comes to naming the team? Yes, but a lot of players who will still be under contract won't be available for the game, and it was the same last week. Valenciennes have won nine times, there have been 12 draws and Monaco have won three times. - Monaco have not won at VAFC since a 1-0 victory in February Since then VAFC have won three times and there have been four draws, including the 0-0 the last time the two sides met in northern France in Week 26 of the season. - THIS SEASON: In Week 19 VAFC inflicted Monaco's only home loss of the season, winning 2-1 at the Stade Louis II. VAFC went in front on the half-hour through an Eric Abidal own goal and doubled their advantage in the 58th minute through David Ducourtioux. James Rodriguez (84') pulled one back for Monaco. Radamel Falcao had missed a penalty three minutes earlier. - VALENCIENNES FC: pre-25 - GENERAL: Valenciennes come into the weekend in 19th place on 29 points. They have won seven, drawn eight and lost a club-record 21 times. - VAFC are winless in their last seven L1 games (1D, 6L). They have lost their last five games, the longest losing run in the division. - VAFC's relegation fate was sealed in Week 35 by a 1-0 home loss to Bordeaux (Julien Faubert 74'). Valenciennes have picked up 25 points from their 27 league games under the Belgian, the 19th-best tally in that time. - Valenciennes have scored 35 times this season, only four teams have netted fewer top-flight goals. - Majeed Waris is the club's top scorer with nine goals, despite only having joined on loan from Spartak Moscow in January. Grégory Pujol and Mathieu Dossevi have both found the net four times. Pujol has not scored since Week 22 and only once since November 2. - Dossevi and Maor Melikson lead the team with three assists. - Only Ajaccio (68) have conceded more goals than VAFC this season (60). - They have kept just three clean sheets, one on the opening day in a 3-0 home win over Toulouse, in the 1-0 win at Evian in Week 29 and the 0-0 at Montpellier in Week Tongo Hamed Doumbia is the most-used player with 34 appearances this season (33 starts, 1 sub app.) - Rudy Mater (v Lorient, Wk 4) and Marco Da Silva (v OL, Wk 32) are the only Valenciennes players to have been sent off this season. - HOME FORM: VAFC are second-bottom of the home form table with 17 points from 18 games (4W, 5D, 9L). Only Ajaccio (12) have claimed fewer points. - VAFC have lost their last four home games. - Waris has scored eight of his nine goals in home games. - COUPE DE LA LIGUE: Valenciennes were eliminated at the first hurdle, losing 3-1 at home to Ligue 2 side ESTAC Troyes in the Round of 32 in late October. - COUPE DE FRANCE: Ariël Jacobs' side were knocked out in the Round of 64 by fellow L1 outfit Stade Rennais FC on 4 January. Opa Nguette (hamstring) is back in individually tailored training. - AS MONACO FC: - GENERAL: Monaco are second with 76 points from 36 games. They have won 22, drawn 10 and lost four of their games to date, and are an unassailable seven points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain. Lille's 1-1 draw at Bastia in Week 35 ensured a top-two finish for Monaco and they're guaranteed group stage Champions League football, featuring in that competition for the first time since The principality club have not been lower than fourth this season and were top of the table from Week 4 until drawing with Sochaux in Week 10. They have sat second ever since beating AC Ajaccio 1-0 on December 8. - In their last outing, Claudio Ranieri's drew 1-1 at home to Guingamp in a rearranged Week 36 game on Wednesday evening.
