2 PREVIEW : PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN - LOSC LILLE Feature Preview Paris Saint-Germain will be hoping to extend their recent unbeaten run and end another weekend on top of the Ligue 1 table by getting the better of an inconsistent LOSC Lille side at the Parc des Princes on Sunday evening. PSG come into the weekend locked in a tight battle with Lyon and Marseille at the Ligue 1 summit, but their confidence is high at the moment thanks to a lengthy unbeaten run stretching back to the beginning of December. Since a 2-1 defeat away to OGC Nice that sparked talk of a full-blown crisis, Carlo Ancelotti's side have gone six league games without defeat, or even conceding a goal. They have gone nine matches without losing in all competitions, with their only slip in that time the 0-0 draw at home to Ajaccio in their first Ligue 1 outing of After seeing off Girondins de Bordeaux 1-0 last weekend thanks to Zlatan Ibrahimovic's 19th goal of the season, the capital club turned on the style against Toulouse in the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France in midweek, winning 3-1 with Kévin Gameiro, Javier Pastore and Ezequiel Lavezzi all on the scoresheet. The result, and performance, set them up nicely for the clash with the 2011 champions. Carlo Ancelotti praised his side for showing "lots of concentration, lots of quality" against Toulouse, while veteran Sylvain Armand, who returned to the team in that game, and sported the captain's armband, admits that the performance was a big improvement on the previous league displays against Ajaccio and Bordeaux. "We knew that we were not at our best against Ajaccio and that Bordeaux was not a great match either," he said. "We played some great football. Everyone enjoyed themselves. I hope that it will prove to be excellent preparation for the match against Lille." Lille also won in the national knockout competition in midweek, coming from behind to beat fourth-tier amateurs Plabennec 3-1 at Brest's Stade Francis-Le Blé with Nolan Roux and Tulio De Melo both on the scoresheet, and their coach Rudi Garcia was delighted with the way his troops performed on a difficult surface. "We were very serious, professional, and we didn't panic when they opened the scoring," he said. "It was a good occasion and a good game between amateurs and professionals, all played in the right atmosphere." As much as that win will have boosted morale, it does not totally disguise the fact that Les Dogues have been disappointing in the league this season. They may have trailed fourth-placed Nice by just five points coming into the weekend, but Garcia's side have been too inconsistent thus far to suggest that they can mount a sustained push for European qualification. Beaten 2-0 at home by Nice last weekend, Lille have won just one of their last four league outings, and just two of their last nine. This is proving to be their poorest campaign since Garcia took over as coach in 2008, although he is overseeing a period of transition, with the majority of those that helped the club win the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France double less than two years ago now having left. Indeed, of those that started when Lille drew 2-2 at the Parc des Princes to clinch the title in May 2011, only Aurélien Chedjou and captain Rio Mavuba remain at the club. For those with connections to Lille, memories of that night are sweet, but it is worth pointing out that the northerners have not won in the capital in their last 13 attempts since a 1-0 victory in April This weekend Lille will look to the duo of Roux and Dimitri Payet, who have 18 goals between them in all competitions, to trouble the home defence. That PSG backline will again be deprived of the injured Thiago Silva, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Motta are both available again after bans. Lille are missing Salomon Kalou and Ryan Mendes, who are both currently on duty at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, while Franck Béria is expected to miss the game with a hamstring injury. 01/25/2013 Ligue de Football Professionnel / Ligue1.com 2

3 -HISTORY: There have been 35 previous meetings of PSG and Lille in the capital in the top flight, with PSG winning 18, Lille just five, and the remaining 12 encounters ending in draws. -PSG have scored 62 goals in this fixture to Lille's 33. -Paris are unbeaten in their last 13 home meetings with Lille, and have lost just one of their last 21 at the Parc des Princes against the club from the far north. -Lille's last win at the Parc dates back to April 27, 1996, when Patrick Collot scored the only goal of the game three minutes from time. Before that, you have to go back to September 1987 for a Lille win in this fixture. -Last season's corresponding fixture ended in a 0-0 draw on December 18, 2011 in front of a crowd of 45,195. -Earlier this season, PSG beat Lille 2-1 at the Grand Stade in Week 4, on September 2, Zlatan Ibrahimovic (1', 21') scored both Paris goals either side of Aurélien Chedjou's 12th-minute equaliser. Ibrahimovic's opener, timed at 27 seconds, became the fastest league goal ever scored by a PSG player. -In season , Lille clinched the title with a 2-2 draw at the Parc des Princes on the penultimate weekend of the campaign, on May 21, Six points clear of Marseille with two rounds of games left, they knew a point would be enough, and they got it, despite twice surrendering the lead. Ludovic Obraniak (5') and Moussa Sow (59') got the goals for LOSC, with Guillaume Hoarau (45+3') and Mathieu Bodmer (73') scoring for Paris. Hoarau (46') was sent off. Aurélien Chedjou and captain Rio Mavuba are the only Lille players that started that day to still play for the club. Only five of PSG's starting line-up that day remain on their books. -Lille famously won 5-4 in this fixture in October PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN -GENERAL: Paris Saint-Germain came into Week 22 in first place in the Ligue 1 table with 42 points from 21 games. They lay above Olympique Lyonnais on goal difference and one point ahead of Olympique de Marseille in third. -PSG have won 12, drawn six and lost three of their games to date. They went unbeaten through their first ten league games of the campaign. They are currently unbeaten in their last six league games (five wins, one draw), and their last nine matches in all competitions (eight wins, one draw). -This time last season, PSG sat top of the table with 46 points, three more than Montpellier in second. -Carlo Ancelotti's side sat 12th after Week 2, but sat top of the table during the winter break to take the symbolic crown of autumn champions and returned to top spot last weekend. -In their last Ligue 1 outing, PSG won 1-0 away to Girondins de Bordeaux. Goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu has not conceded in any of his last 685 minutes on the field in Ligue 1. -No PSG player has appeared in every league game this season, although Blaise Matuidi has played in 20 games (19 starts, one sub appearance). Salvatore Sirigu and Maxwell have also started 19 games. -Kévin Gameiro is Carlo Ancelotti's favourite substitute, having come off the bench ten times so far. -PSG sat 19th in the Fair Play table coming into the weekend, above only Bastia. They have received 45 yellow cards and five red cards this season. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Adrien Rabiot are also available again after being banned against Toulouse in midweek. -INJURIES: Thiago Silva is out for around two more weeks after suffering a thigh injury against Ajaccio recently. Alex has missed the last two games with a calf injury, while Zoumana Camara (thigh) and Mathieu Bodmer (adductor) also missed the midweek Cup tie. Kévin Gameiro came off at half time against Toulouse with a minor thigh problem. -LOSC LILLE -GENERAL: Lille came into Week 22 in 10th place in Ligue 1 with 30 points from 21 games. They were five points behind Nice in fourth and Rennes in fifth. -Lille have won seven, drawn nine and lost five of their games to date. They have won just one of their last four league outings, and just two of their last nine. -After 21 games last season, Lille were third with 39 points, seven behind leaders PSG and four behind Montpellier in second. They had lost just twice. They have not been this low in the table this far into a season since , when they sat 13th after 21 games with 26 points, three points clear of the relegation zone. -Rudi Garcia's side were third after Week 1 and dropped to 15th after Week 7. They have fluctuated between seventh and 11th ever since. -Last weekend, Lille lost 2-0 at home to OGC Nice, with Renato Civelli (77') and Neal Maupay (85') scoring the goals for the visitors in front of 38,671 at the Grand Stade. -The Lille line-up against Nice: Elana; Béria (Sidibé, 46'), Chedjou (c), Basa, Digne; Pedretti (Balmont, 73'), Gueye, Martin; Bruno (Rodelin, 62'), Roux, Payet. -Lille have scored 26 goals so far this season, giving them the 12th-best attack coming into the weekend. Rio Mavuba missed the Plabennec game because of a problem with the left meniscus on which he was operated in October. -TRIVIA: PSG's English performance manager Nick Broad, 38, was tragically killed in a road accident on Thursday January 17. Broad previously worked at Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City and at Chelsea under Carlo Ancelotti. -PSG's match against Toulouse on Wednesday was the 2000th in the club's history. -David Rozehnal scored once in 75 Ligue 1 appearances for PSG between 2005 and Mathieu Bodmer played 135 Ligue 1 games for Lille, scoring 18 goals, between 2003 and Salomon Kalou played under Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea, where he was also a teammate of Alex. -Jérémy Ménez and Marvin Martin were on the books together at Sochaux, where both started their careers. However, they never played together in the first team. 7 - Ligue 1 champions in 1986 and 1994, PSG have won eight Coupes de France (1982, '83, '93, '95, '98, 2004, 2006, 2010) and three Coupes de la Ligue (1993, '98, 2008). - PSG's last piece of silverware came when they beat Monaco 1-0 in the Coupe de France final. Guillaume Hoarau scored the only goal of the game in the 105th minute. - Since the relegation of Red Star 93 in 1975, Paris FC in 1983 and Racing Club de France (Matra Racing) in 1990, PSG are the only Ligue 1 side in the French capital. - Season was the worst in the club's Ligue 1 history, finishing 16th and saving their place amongst the elite on the penultimate week of the season. The 30-year-old is on reported wages of 1 million Euros a month (after tax) which some in the French Socialist government labelled as "indecent". - On the same day Ibrahimovic signed, Italy's U-21 midfield star Marco Verratti, whom some have compared to Andrea Pirlo, joined from promoted Serie A side Pescara for a fee of around 11 million Euros. - Nene was PSG's top scorer in the season with 21 goals (nine penalties). 8 LOSC Lille - The season is Lille's 52nd in France's top flight, following on from their third-placed finish in season , when they amassed 74 points - just two fewer than in their title-winning season in to trail second-placed PSG by five points and champions Montpellier by eight lengths. - The season saw Lille break a host of club records as they swept to a Ligue1-Coupe de France double, bringing major silverware to the northern French city for the first time in over half a century. - Lille had last won the league in 1954, and the Coupe de France in 1955, ending a trophy drought whose only consolations had been four Ligue 2 titles (1964, '74, '78 and 2000) and an Intertoto Cup (2005). - Lille have won three Ligue 1 crowns (1946, '54, 2011) and finished runners-up five times (1948, '49, '50, '51 and 2005). They have won the Coupe de France six times (1946, '47, '48, '53, '55, 2011), and were beaten finalists twice (1945, '49). - Their third-placed finish in season earned them a place in the play-off round of the UEFA Champions League, their second successive stint in Europe's premier club competition after an absence dating back to the season. - Last season Lille finished fourth in Champions League Group B, behind Inter, CSKA Moscow and Trabzonspor with one win, three draws and two defeats. - In the Champions League campaign Lille played all their home matches at the Stade de France in Paris, because their regular home - the Stadium Métropole Villeneuve d'ascq - did not meet UEFA requirements.
