2 PREVIEW : OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS - TOULOUSE FC Feature Preview Olympique Lyonnais will look to bounce back from a disappointing Champions League trip to Russia with three points in Ligue 1 when they entertain Toulouse FC at the Stade Municipal de Gerland on Friday evening. OL's chances of reaching the last 16 of the Champions League are hanging by a thread after a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Zenit St Petersburg in the chill of Russia on Tuesday left them with just a single point from three group games. Hubert Fournier's side went behind early on at the Stadion Petrovskiy but drew level courtesy of Alexandre Lacazette's third goal of the campaign before eventually crumbling and suffering a second defeat of their European campaign. It looks like Lyon will now have to win their three remaining group games to stand a chance of going any further in the Champions League this season, and meanwhile their domestic campaign has yet to really get going either. Lyon come into this encounter in sixth place, three points behind their bitter rivals AS Saint-Etienne in fourth. They have lost just one of their last seven Ligue 1 matches, although they have only won twice in nine games in all competitions and needed a late equaliser by Rafael to snatch a 1-1 draw away to 10-man AS Monaco a week ago. Scoring goals continues to be the big problem for Lyon in the absence of Nabil Fekir, who will not return from a serious knee injury until the spring. A lack of depth in attack is a major concern for Fournier, who saw Lacazette pick up a slight thigh injury in Russia and finished the game with youngster Maxwell Cornet up front. "We are obviously short in that sector. At the end of the match I was obliged to send on young Cornet in a very important Champions League game. He is called upon to be the saviour. It is a complicated situation," admitted the coach, who is hoping his side can get back to winning ways. "We need to be conscious of the fact that the league is our bread and butter. Getting back into the Champions League again depends on doing well in Ligue 1. It is a tricky match because Toulouse's performances are better than their league position suggests. They have been unlucky in certain matches and their league position is rather harsh on them." He added: "Sometimes we lack ambition in our play. We need to show ambition to get back confidence in our game." Lyon can take confidence from the fact they have won their last two home league games, against SC Bastia and Stade de Reims. It is also 49 years since a Toulouse side won in Lyon in the top division, so history is certainly on the hosts' side. As well as Fekir, Clément Grenier, Gueïda Fofana, Milan Bisevac and Aldo Kalulu are missing for Lyon, while Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is fit but acknowledges that his performances have not yet justified OL's decision to splash out big money to sign the France centre-back from AS Roma in the summer. "My start to the season has been catastrophic. I am trying to do as well as possible. I just need to grin and bear it to try to get through this period. I have not lost confidence or hope. I will keep fighting," said the former Montpellier man. The Lyon defence will need to be wary of a Toulouse side who boast a serious threat in attack thanks to the presence of Danish international Martin Braithwaite and Wissam Ben Yedder. However, TFC travel to the banks of the Rhône on a run of nine games without a win since defeating Saint-Etienne on the opening weekend of the campaign. Toulouse's worst start to a season in over a decade has left Dominique Arribage's side just three points clear of the relegation zone and fans displayed banners clearly expressing their disquiet at performances during last weekend's 2-1 home defeat to Angers SCO. "I think it is totally legitimate that some of the supporters are unhappy. The supporters are entitled to protest against the current situation but we have to get on with it. We will go to Lyon with the aim of getting something from the game. They are three points behind AS Saint-Etienne in fourth and just three ahead of FC Nantes in 12th. - This time last season Lyon were fourth with 17 points, one point behind Paris Saint-Germain in second. However, at the same stage of the campaign OL were 12th with 12 points. - In their last league outing, Lyon drew 1-1 with AS Monaco in front of 9,513 at the Stade Louis II. 4 - Last season, Lyon had the second-best home record in the division, collecting 45 points, four fewer than champions Paris Saint-Germain. They won 14, drew three and lost two of their games at the Stade de Gerland, scoring 40 goals and conceding Lyon have lost just two of their last 22 home games in Ligue 1. - The only visiting sides to win in Lyon last season were RC Lens and OGC Nice. However, they have won just four and lost two of their last 10 home Ligue 1 games having previously won 11 and drawn one of Lyon's average gate so far this season is just 29,494, the fourth-highest in Ligue 1, compared to an average last season of 34,949. They are three points clear of the relegation zone and three points adrift of LOSC Lille in 13th place. - This time last season, Toulouse were ninth with 14 points. They are enduring their worst start to a season since 2003, when they were 18th at the same stage, although they had nine points to their name. - TFC have not picked up so few points at this stage of a season since 2000, when they had six points after 10 games and were eventually relegated at the end of the campaign. - In their last outing, Toulouse lost 2-1 at home to Angers SCO in front of 13,887 fans at Le Stadium.
