Miguel Ibarra scored in the 2nd minute by tapping home his own rebound. Edmonton dominated play following the goal, keeping Minnesota in its own half. A free kick from Lance Laing and a sliding finish by Tomi Ameobi put the Eddies up 2-1 in the 2nd half. A penalty in the final minutes gave Minnesota the chance to equalize and saw Edmonton s Daryl Fordyce sent off for dissent. Jamie Watson leveled the match by converting from the spot, making it 2-2. Minnesota has found the back of the net again with a pair of 2-2 draws, but the stout Silverbacks have only allowed three goals in five matches. Atlanta has struggled scoring as it was shut out in its last two matches. However the draws came against top three opponents, meaning United s attack will have its work cut out for it Saturday night. A win could see Minnesota move up to 6th with five matches left. The Silverbacks reached the USL Championship Game in 2007, but fell to the Seattle Sounders. After going on hiatus in 2009 and 2010, the Silverbacks returned to the professional field as members of the NASL in The club earned its first trophy in 2013, capturing the NASL Spring Season Championship. By winning the title, the Silverbacks earned the right to host the league s championship game, NASL Soccer Bowl 2013, in Atlanta. Unfortunately, the Silverbacks came up short in the final, dropping a 1-0 decision to the New York Cosmos. Atlanta was unable to continue its success in The Silverbacks struggled throughout the season and finished at the bottom of the combined standings. Following the disappointing 2014 season, Gary Smith took over the role of head coach. Under Smith s leadership, the club is undefeated. ABOUT THE NORTH AMERICAN SOCCER LEAGUE The North American Soccer League (NASL) is a professional soccer league with eleven teams in the United States and Canada. It is sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation (U.S. Soccer) as the Division II league in the American league system. Its headquarters are in New York City. The league is named for the original North American Soccer League. 10 MINNESOTA UNITED FC PLAYER BIOGRAPHIES #11 Kalif Alhassan: Alhassan joined Minnesota in the 2015 preseason after playing six years with the Portland Timbers in USL and MLS. The Ghanaian midfielder became the first Timbers player to win player of the week. #29 J.C. Banks: After several successful seasons with USL PRO s Rochester Rhinos, Banks joined Minnesota United prior to The Milwaukee native was a two-time MVP for the Rhinos and scored 17 goals in 78 appearances. #9 Pablo Campos: Campos signed as a free agent with Minnesota in January Campos was the second highest scorer in the NASL for the 2013 season with 13 goals total and is the all-time leading scorer in the NASL, with 46 goals in three seasons of play. #5 Tiago Calvano: A veteran central defender who joined Minnesota United in the 2014 season, Calvano began his playing career in 2001 in his native Rio de Janeiro playing for Botafogo in Brazil s Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.
