2. Managers Meeting (c) Comments from last Managers Meeting October meeting held at the Sun Inn, Briercliffe. Good number turned out, but the meeting doesn t last as long. No issues of note to report. Request for Club Membership Claire Anderson, a protagonist in the defection of many of last year s JDS and U9s to Redstone United during the summer, has expressed an interest in her daughter re-joining the club (via text message). The reason for the change of heart is apparently dissatisfaction with the coaching at Readstone United, rather than a realisation that the information being circulated amongst the JDS earlier this year was not wholly accurate. A lengthy debate followed about whether the club was obliged to welcome all parents and players, or whether those that had proved to be disruptive, unreliable etc. should be excluded. Many felt that having successfully overcome much of the unrest that had beset the club over the last 6-9 months it would be foolish to consider the request at this time. The Committee decided to approach the current manager and parents to gauge their feelings before reaching a final decision. One pre- condition for a possible return would be that the parents must attend the FA Adults in Football workshop. Team Updates U9s Independent of the club, the U9s have arranged to present the flag at a game at Turf Moor in February. Parents are being charged just per ticket (N.B. the actual cost per adult ticket is not as reported at the meeting). U10s Nothing to report U11s Nothing to report U12s Nothing to report U13s - Coach Greg Toothill has stopped responding to s and texts and has failed to turn up at training for the last three training sessions. Uncertainty about validity of his DBS remains a concern. - Emily Gibbins (U16) and Taylor Gregson (Open Age) to help out with coaching. U14s Nothing to report BT to speak to JDS/U9 Manager and Parents. JMH to write to Greg Toothill enquiring about his future intentions. 2
U15s - GL reported that he had a broken net. CMC advised that rather than buy a new net, replacement parts can be bought from Samba Sports. U16s Nothing to report Open Age - League meeting in Runcorn on Thursday 26 th November SDS had four games in a row postponed, so had held two Sunday training sessions at Soccer Burnley. Some concern that the SDS then postponed its next game because of a clash with the Clarets home game against Brighton & Hove Albion. - First Team has played two home games on the Prairie 3G due to the inclement weather, negotiating a reduced price of per game with Burnley Leisure. GL to take pictures of broken parts and to CMC END OF PRE-MEETING WITH MANAGERS 3. Presentation to Outgoing Club Chairman JMH formally placed on record the clubs thanks for everything that TMR had done for the club over the last four years and presented him with a card signed by members of the committee and team managers and a voucher for D.Byrne Wine Company in Clitheroe. TMR thanked those present for their kind words and the token of appreciation, but emphasised that he hadn t taken the role for any reward other than seeing girls being given the opportunity to play football. TMR felt that the club was unrecognisable from where it was just 12 months ago, and in a much healthier position going forward. TMR emphasised that it was important to keep encouraging more people from within the club to get involved with either their teams or the Committee. He stressed the importance of people not taking things for granted and placing too much pressure on one or two individuals, as had happened with Paul Rosthorn in the past. 4. Matters Arising Youth Committee TMR commented that to his shame he had not managed to get the first meeting scheduled before stepping down as Chairman. In the absence if JOB, the Committee asked JBU and ARP to organise the inaugural meeting for early in the New Year. JBU to book the Casterton Suite for a Monday or Wednesday night. 3
5. Chairman s Report (c) Funding TMR noted that although Charity Status opened the door for funding options not currently available to the club, like many other football clubs it had not chosen to go down this route largely due to the more onerous reporting that was required. The club has submitted few applications for funding in the past, largely due to the lack of resources available to pull a bid together. They had however had some success with bids to Burnley FC in the Community and the Football Foundation. Consideration has been given to securing a ground for the club in the future, but it s a long way from where it s at now. JMH noted that in addition to the cost of acquisition, the overheads associated with maintaining buildings and pitches are something that cannot be contemplated by the club at this time. The only facility known to be available at the current time i.e. the pitch at Bank Hall in Burnley, is considered unsuitable due to its dodgy location. Sponsorship Important to start work on securing new sponsors for the 2016/17 Season early in the New Year. Need to agree fee per team. CMC emphasised how much easier it is to keep our current sponsors happy in the hope of keeping them on-board rather than have to seek new sponsors. Publicity Articles for the Burnley FC Programme should continue to be submitted to TMR and his wife Yvonne. With a run of four articles required in quick succession to cover the Christmas and New Year period, all contributions are most welcome. The club has received excellent publicity in the local media recently: - U16s County Cup and League Cup semi-finalists - Selection of seven U14s for the Lancashire Schools squad featured in Lancashire Telegraph Grassroots supplement and on the main Burnley FC website a first for the club! - Local radio station 2BR featured First Team Captain Jo Holt in a morning slot. This is to be followed up with further coverage in the coming weeks. Amongst the articles under consideration for the future are: - the adventures of Sophie Greenwood and Hannah Till in the USA; and - long-serving players; including those still playing with our Open Age teams (e.g. Jo Rohman and Jo Holt) and KJ to consider options for club status in the Club Development Plan Team Managers to remember to promote their sponsors in match reports etc. If anyone has an idea for an article or publicity, please bring it to the attention of TMR. JMH to approach Nicola Larnach (U10s parent) about an article on the girls who are at college in the USA. 4
6. Secretary s Report those that have become coaches with the club (e.g. Michelle Martin). West Lancashire Girls Football League JMH reported back on the league meeting held on Thursday 11 th November Of note were: - Team Sheets: Need to put the name of the club (and the age group) in the header, not details of the opponents on the day. - Please remember to be respectful to your opponents in match reports. - Managers should remember to notify the league if a game is postponed - The minimum number of players required to play a game is two down in every age group. League rules trump the FA rules in this respect. - Please put the name of the club and the age group in the header, when sending in team sheets. - Team Managers should exchange match cards before games, then there is no question of ineligible players taking the field. - Financial Report: Burnley and Dynamo Rangers are the only two teams in credit with the league. - Three teams have not supplied details of their Child Welfare Officer and will be fined. - Changes to the referees list have been circulated by the league. - The WLGFL hope to play at least some cup finals earlier than last year if at all possible, to avoid extended periods of inactivity for some finalists Club: The 50 prize draws were won by Hesketh Colts (October) and Euxton Villa (November). North Valley League JMH reported that he was half an hour late for the start of the league meeting and had unfortunately been locked out. No amount of banging on the door could get anyone to answer, so there was nothing to report. The North Valley League have sent round an noting that games played on g surfaces, must take place on an FA approved pitch. The Prairie and Nelson & Colne College are the closest to Burnley, but are re listed on the FA website (see link below): Weblink Team Managers to note 5
(c) (d) (e) Recruitment JMH circulated a poster that had been produced to circulate to schools in Burnley, Pendle, Rossendale, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley, where most of the clubs younger players are from. The poster will also be circulated to leisure Centres and Sports Clubs. APK suggested that libraries could also be targeted. FA Courses JMH enquired if anyone had signed up to attend any of the courses that had been circulated. It was confirmed that DMC (U13s) would be attending the Futsal course at Leyland in December. TMR noted that all managers are encouraged to join the FA Managers Club. This requires 3 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) per year via online tutorials and course, but does open up new opportunities.. JBU highlighted an upcoming FA Youth Module 1 for Ladies only. The committee agreed to her attendance (cost ). Match Postponements JMH noted the increased number of requests to book matches on a 3G Pitch because of the inclement weather. The SDS already play their home games on the 3G Pitch at The Prairie. The First Team can transfer games there if necessary and have negotiated a reduced fee of 70 per game with Burnley Leisure. The club allows junior teams involved in cup competitions, which have had their first game cancelled, to play on the 3G Pitch, if necessary, so as not to lose home advantage. For league games there is no similar arrangement at present. The Committee will give consideration to allowing each team two opportunities per season to use the 3G Pitch at The Prairie for matches to help avoid prolonged periods without a game and a backlog of matches. This must be subject to negotiating favourable rates with Burnley Leisure. APK commented that with so few teams and such a short season, it could be argued that the postponements were working in favour of the U16s, as their season would now continue beyond February. JMH to initially posters to schools, then follow-up with sports centres and libraries 6
7. Treasurer s Report (c) (d) Club Account The amount currently in the clubs two accounts stands at 12, There are major purchases in the pipeline for new training and playing kit, but there was sufficient money in the current account to allow some to be transferred over to the savings account. Subscriptions JL stuck in London on business, will circulate information to Committee and Managers within the week. Despite reminders several parents are still paying just Reminder that the player s name needs to be included in the description on the standing order. Purchases Except for one-off purchases of small, inexpensive items required at short notice, would all Team Managers please go through CMC for new equipment as the club gets a SUBSTANTIAL DISCOUNT from Samba Sports. Where emergency purchases are made, keep the receipt and submit to the Treasurer with completed claim form within forty days of the expenditure being made. Burnley FC CMC meeting with Neil Hart on Monday 7 th December 2015, to see how our relationship with the club can be improved. Neil Hart has apparently acknowledged that there is some bad feeling within Burnley FC in the Community (BFCITC) with regard to Burnley FC Girls & Ladies (BFCG&L). TMR acknowledged the relationship with the football club could be better. Whilst BFCG&L had issues with regard to the acquisition of paying kit in the off-season, TMR felt that it was BFCG&L who had constantly tried to break down barriers rather than the other way round. Hopefully linkages may improve in the months ahead as Emma White, a player with the clubs Open Age teams, has secured a job with BFCITC. JL to forward subscription information to Team Managers and Treasurer, Secretary and Chairman Team officials to adhere to this policy 7
8. Election of New Chairman Pre-amble APK felt that whoever took on the role required a clear vision for the future. He commented that if given the option he would: - dissolve the club and re-constitute as a Charter Standard Community Club; and - pull all teams out of the West Lancashire Girls Football League. TMR commented that to become a Charter Standard Community Club would require the club to run boys teams, something that has never seriously been considered before, and have policies in place for taking on disabled players for clarity MS noted that the club does accept disable players and has them in its teams. JMH felt that after the recent summer the club had experienced that we must learn to walk before we can run and that a period of stability was required. CMC agreed and felt that a steadying hand to guide the club in the right direction was required. Voting JMH explained that no nominations had been received from the Club Membership so an EGM was not required. In accordance with Rule 9(e) the Committee (see below) should seek to elect an interim Chairman until the AGM in June Any vacancy on the Club Committee which arises between AGMs shall be filled by a member proposed by one (1) and seconded by another one (1) of the remaining Club Committee members and approved by simple majority of the remaining Club Committee members. After a lengthy discussion of the limited options available from within the Committee, First Team Manager Kris Jones was proposed, seconded and elected by those members of the Committee present at the meeting. Although Kris has previous experience in the role (gained with a women s football club in Aberystwyth, Wales) he is relatively new to the Burnley FC Girls & Ladies, so it was agreed that Bryan Tunstill (U11s) would assist Kris up to the AGM in June. 8
9. Any Other Business Readstone United Boys JMH asked how the club intended to bill Readstone United for the 1,200 cost of hiring The Prairie between October 2015 and April 2016: a flat rate of 1,200 or instalments i.e. 4 x 300? 10 Next Meeting Venue: Ighten Leigh Social Club, Padiham Road, Burnley, BB12 6SZ Tel: Time: 19:00 Date: Tuesday 22 nd January 2016 MS to ask Steve Bell what Readstone would prefer Note in diaries. 9
