Burnley FC Girls & Ladies Football Club Committee Meeting Minutes Date: Tuesday 27 th September 2016 Time: 7:00pm Venue: Casterton Suite, Prairie Sports Village, Windermere Avenue, Burnley, BB11 2FU 1. Introductions & Apologies Present Abbreviation Name Role used in minutes Justine Lee Chairperson JL John Halton Secretary JMH Catherine McCartney Treasurer / Events & Sponsorship Officer CMC Jo Butterworth Assistant Child Welfare Officer JBU Mick Preston U11s Manager MP Bryan Tunstill U12s Manager / Vice Chairperson BT Martin Bourke U13s Manager BC Danny McCartney U14s Manager / Fixtures Secretary DMC Brian Carpenter U15s Manager BC Garry Lord U16s Manager GL Simon Waring U18s Manager SW Martin Heyes SDS Manager MH Martin Smith SDS Secretary MS Laura Speak SDS Captain LS Jo Holt Club Captain JH Joe Robinson Unattached Coach JR Jo Day Publicity Officer JD Paul France Deputy Chief Executive (BFCitC) MP Apologies: Darren Sturrock JDS / U9s Manager DS Adela Rodriguez U11s Coach MP Michelle Martin U12s Coach SW Matt Pounder Head of Sport (BFCitC) MP 1
2. First Team Manager JL confirmed that First Team Manager Kris Jones had left the club with immediate effect. The decision taken by the Committee was not based on results or performances, but a failure to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of the club. Last season s finish to the league campaign had been disappointing. But with four wins from four games at the start of this season, with the exception of last week s 7-0 home defeat to Wigan Athletic in the FA Women s Cup, performances have been promising. However, the First Team Manager with Burnley FC Girls & Ladies is expected to hold, as a minimum, an FA Level 2 coaching certificate and preferably a UEFA B licence. When Kris was appointed to the role in June 2015, the club received a positive reference from his former employers Aberystwyth Town. However, despite several requests to satisfy the Committee that he held the coaching qualifications he claimed to have obtained through the Welsh FA (i.e. equivalent to an FA Level 2 coaching certificate or UEFA B licence), he had repeatedly failed to do so. After failing to respond to a final request to provide the club with evidence that (he held) the equivalent of an FA Level 2 coaching certificate or UEFA B licence by the deadline set by the Committee, the decision was taken to dismiss Kris from the role of First Team Manager, in accordance with Rule 12b; as it was felt that it would not be in the interests of the club for (Kris) to remain a member. Kris has 14 days to appeal the decision if he wishes to do so. On reflection, the Committee acknowledges that the decision should have been taken much earlier. But recognising the difficulty of the situation that Kris said he found himself in (trying to obtain confirmation from the Welsh FA and the English FA), they had wanted to give him every opportunity to come up with the evidence he was being asked to provide. The club placed on record its thanks to Kris for the considerable time and effort he has put in over the last 15 months and wished him well for the future. Matt Pounder, the Head of Sport at Burnley FC in the Community will take over First Team Management duties on a caretaker basis, until the arrival of the new Female Football Development Officer (FFDO) Matt Bee in early October. The club hope that Head Coach Michael Flannery and Physio Jack Hindle will remain with the team. JL also advised that the Committee had met with a delegation of five First Team players prior to the meeting, to listen to their views, and explain their decision. It is fair to report that there were mixed feelings amongst the players. 2
3. Minutes of Last Meeting The minutes of the August Committee Meeting had been circulated by JMH prior to the meeting. Agreed as a correct record JMH to upload to website 4. Matters Arising (not addressed elsewhere on the agenda) Item 4(b) Pitch Bookings JMH confirmed he had booked the 3G pitch at Nelson & Colne College with Sam Bowden at Pendle Leisure for the games from November onwards, with the exception of the game to be rearranged against Bolton Wanderers. Item 5 JDS / Mini Kickers Further publicity through BFCitC and the clubs social media pages had not gone ahead as planned (see below). Item 5 U13s Saul (Aaron Lewis) from BFCitC has agreed to help coach the U13s on Wednesday evenings, but will be unavailable on matchdays. Item 5 Team Update CMC had purchased and distributed new ice packs to all teams. Item 5 First Team Following the dismissal of Kris Jones two matters raised at the August meeting no longer need to be addressed: (1) The use of the video camera was now a moot point as replacement Matt Bee will be an employee of BFCitC and able to use their video equipment as required. (2) The need to provide clearance to for Kris to mention he is manager of Burnley FC Girls & Ladies First Team, should he be selected to appear on TV programme The Chase. Item 9(b) Managers and Coaches Meetings These are now well underway, but just under half the managers and coaches had still to have their meetings with MP. Item 10 Publicity JD confirmed she had received media templates from BFCitC BFCitC and DMC to promote Mini Kickers via social media 5. Team Updates All teams 2/3 of the 3G pitch at The Prairie are available on Thursday evening from 6:00pm-7:00pm following the U16s move to Monday evening and the U18s move to a later timeslot. The U14s are currently using 1/3 of the pitch for additional training, but this is available for use by ANY TEAM, but managers should check availability with the Club Secretary well in advance of its proposed use. It is proposed that the remaining 1/3 be used by JR, who will relocate goalkeeper training from Towneley from Thursday 6 th October He may be joined by JMH and Daniel Halton who run the junior goalie training sessions from November, 3
but for the time being those sessions will continue to be held on Wednesday evenings. CMC requested that managers and coaches not to ask DMC to take on any more jobs. Some items supplied for the older age groups are proving to be too small. Immediate requirements are: - Under 18s 2 x large shorts - SDS 3 x full strips plus goalkeeper shirt to fit - First Team 1 x #2 kit (full) and goalkeeper kit Mini Kickers Some initial teething problems regarding attendance of coaches have now been resolved and the sessions will now take place each Monday (except when Burnley FC has a home game) from 6:30pm-7:30pm. The session which didn t take place on Monday 26 th September (and resultant parent frustrations) was due to a genuine misunderstanding as MH planned to cancel the session, because football traffic would not have allowed him to get there on time. DMC had agreed to take the session, but was then unable to do so. In recognition of the above issues, no fees will be charged for Mini Kickers until the beginning of November, as a gesture of goodwill also see Any Other Business (Item 10). All Mini Kickers must complete a registration form before the next training session, and these should be passed to the Club Secretary. Under 9s No update, manager unable to attend. Under 11s Lost their first game in approximately 12 months at the weekend, in a physical game against Lostock Hall Panthers. Three players injured during the game and Taylor Hutchison has a suspected hairline fracture in her foot. Under 12s Under 13s Under 14s Crosby Stuart cancelled their game against Burnley at the weekend. The WLGFL Committee has decided not to fine Crosby Stuart and award the points to Burnley, but to rearrange the match. Under 15s Opponents for this weekend (Barrowford Celtic) had requested if match could be transferred to Sunday, but this was not possible. Under 16s MP had secured the team an invitation to take part in a 5-a- CMC to PF with kit requirements 4
side tournament to be held prior to the Womens Super League game between Manchester City Women v Chelsea Ladies at the Etihad Complex in Manchester. After qualifying from the group stages Burnley beat Wigan Athletic in the final on penalties to lift the trophy. Under 18s Senior Development Squad MH was concerned that there may be a fixture clash with Nelson FC Ladies at Nelson & Colne College. First Team JMH to contact Sam Bowden at Pendle Leisure 6. Chairperson s Report Nothing much to report other than what is covered elsewhere in the minutes, other than it had been both a busy and stressful couple of weeks. 7. Secretary s Report (a) (b) (c) West Lancashire League Meeting Matters of note from the recent meeting were: - The FA has changed the rule for 9-a-side games, which can now be played with a minimum of six (6) players on the field. - Referees should be paid on a 50:50 basis between the teams. - BC (Under 15s) reported he had been asked to pay on two occasions for a 9-a-side game. Those present felt the fee should be 20.00, but MP noted that the fees quoted were minimums and the referees may be able to charge more. All correspondence with the league must be made through the Club Secretary. For postponements etc., although managers can discuss with their opposition in advance, the formal route to ratify any agreement is Manager Secretary League Opposition League Secretary Manager. Team Sheets must be submitted within four days of the game having taken place (usually Wednesday) to avoid a fine. DMC noted that the WLGFL were doing spot checks and in particular were looking at the availability of First Aid Kits, pitch markings, respect barriers and the marking out of technical areas for the officials. North Valley League Meeting JMH reported that the club had been unable to send a representative to the September meeting. Codes of Conduct JH asked that managers draw parents and players attention to the Codes of Conduct available in the documents folder on the JMH to contact WLGFL regarding referees fees. 5
(d) (e) club website. The club expects the highest standards of behaviour both on and off the pitch in accordance with the FA Respect agenda. Social Media FA policy states that managers and coaches CANNOT be friends with players under the age of 18 on Social Media. Any managers who are currently friends with a junior player on their personal profile MUST block that person immediately. MH commented that he used a Facebook group to contact players about availability etc. Player Registration A reminder that any players training the club must complete a club registration form (to be sent to the Club Secretary) on their fourth week with the club (i.e. after three week trial period) and BEFORE they can play in a league or cup game. A standing order mandate should also be submitted to their bank on the fourth week of training with the club. Managers to highlight at training and/or on matchdays JB to investigate how Facebook groups can be set-up within FA guidelines Managers to action 8. Treasurer s Report (a) Subscriptions The bank balance currently stands at 14, with approximately 3,000 still to go out for kits and equipment. JH reported that as far as she was aware all First Team players are now paying by standing order. 9. Welfare Officer s Report (a) All managers have up-to-date certifications in place. Chasing up Andy Payton who is coaching with the SDS, to ensure that Burnley FC Girls & Ladies are added to his form. 11 Any Other Business (a) (b) Mini Kickers GL proposed that the fee should be less than the charged for players in squads that enter teams into a league. After a short debate it was proposed (JL) and seconded (CMC) that the fee should be set at per month. Training Fees GL proposed that the monthly training fee should be reduced now that the club was back on a sound financial footing and had a healthy bank balance. After a short debate it was agreed that this would be looked into by the Club Treasurer and Chairperson. They would drawup a financial projection after considering the clubs cash-flow over the last months (i.e. incomings and outgoings). Based on their findings they will report back to a future meeting with a proposal for the 2017/18 Season, which would address the following fees: - Membership currently nothing 6
(c) (d) (e) - Training currently per month (juniors) and per month (open age) SW raised the possibility of rolling the coast of the Training Kit into the monthly payments. DMC wondered if referees fees could also be factored in, but this was not considered possible and match fees (usually just payment of the referee) will remain payable by subs collected from just the players present on matchday. Prairie Sports Village MH asked that the club contact Burnley Leisure about the poor standard of the nets in the 11-a-side goals, which had been commented on by the referee and opponents at their last match. Match Day Experience Attendance at the Everton match on Saturday 22 nd October 2016 is open to all players from the JDS through to Under 16s, with the exception of the U12s. Each team will receive 16 child tickets and 14 adult tickets, and forms were handed round for managers to complete. Managers are responsible for telling their parents/players and for collecting in the money. Cheques to be handed to the Treasurer should be made payable to Burnley FC in the Community. Adult tickets are 17.50, whilst those for juniors are Players qualify to take part in a pre-match training session in the Sports Barn behind the James Hargreaves stand and will either hold the banner or large shirt as the teams enter the field; or play a mini-game on the pitch at half time. Hats and Gloves For winter training BC asked if the club could look into getting hats and gloves (that matched the training kit) at a reduced rate either via the club or another outlet. PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS NO DISCOUNT FOR MEMBERS OF BURNLEY FC GIRLS & LADIES IN THE CLUB SHOP.
