3 WELCOME TO GLOBAL PREMIER SOCCER GPS NASA is an affiliate of Global Premier Soccer (GPS). GPS, the Official North American Youth Partner of FC Bayern Munich, is one of the largest and most successful organizations in the USA. GPS is currently active in 22 US States and territories in addition to Canada, the United Kingdom, and Spain. Founded in Boston, Massachusetts in 2001, the GPS model of player development ensures that all locations within the GPS scope produce top-level players through a broad catalog of programming, including GPS Juniors, the GPS Early Development Program, the GPS Premier Team Program, and the GPS FC Bayern National Team Program. THE GPS MISSION STATEMENT The mission of Global Premier Soccer is to be a clear leader in the development and growth of soccer through North America and beyond. We will establish an identity of excellence as we pursue our pathway to success on and off the field with our primary focus being the development of players and people. We will development players who can compete at the highest level of soccer throughout the world. THE GPS PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PATHWAY The GPS Player Development Pathway shows the route our players will progress on while at GPS NASA. WHY ARE WE DIFFERENT? At Global Premier Soccer, we pride ourselves on our professionalism, the care we show to our players and our families, and the respect afforded to each and every player who enters the GPS Family. We want each player to enjoy their time with the club, be challenged in a positive coaching environment, and improve themselves as players and as people as they progress through the GPS Player Development Pathway. 1.
4 THE GPS NASA PREMIER PROGRAM: INTRODUCTION The GPS NASA Premier Program is for young players who aspire to achieve excellence in their game. Our emphasis is player-centric with development the number one priority. We focus on the technical, tactical, physical, and psychological development of players on a pathway towards maximizing their full potential. The winning tradition that has been established over the past 15 years is based on each player improving significantly over the time they are with the club. All players will conduct themselves at all times in accordance with the GPS Premier Team Player Code of Conduct and all players will be treated as equals. The GPS coaching staff will be coaches of positive significance on our player s lives. Our coaches will inspire and motivate our players in an atmosphere of respect and honesty versus fear and intimidation and players will be encouraged to think for themselves. Success is achieved through building good habits and having players be accountable for their own development. Our Premier Program is divided in two distinct phases: - Junior Premier Program: U8 - U12 ( ) - Premier Program: U13 - U18 ( ) THE GPS NASA JUNIOR PREMIER PROGRAM BIRTH YEARS: The GPS NASA Junior Premier Program offers a tailored curriculum for our U8 through U12 teams and will provide players with a fun, energetic, and competitive environment focused on individual player development while learning the GPS Style of Play. At this stage of a young player s development, there are a lot of variables that can enhance or impact development and we want to ensure that our player are given the necessary support and time to be able to reach their full potential. While we fully understand how winning can positively affect player development, it is a by-product of a solid technical and tactical base and of our club s player development philosophy. THE GPS NASA PREMIER PROGRAM BIRTH YEARS: The GPS NASA Premier Program offers a tailored curriculum for our U13 through U18 teams and will provide year-round playing opportunities for 2004 and 2005 birth years while 2003 to 1999 will be play fall-only due to high school commitments in the spring season. The GPS NASA Premier Program is split as a tiered system with players split dependent on ability, attitude, commitment, and what GPS believes is the fit for the player s development. Teams are split into the following four tiers: 1. Maroon 2. White 3. Black 4. Green Each tier continues to develop players through the four pillars of player development: technical, tactical, physical, and psychological. There will be less movement between each tier of the program however the GPS staff reserve the right to move players up and down depending on what they feel is best for the individual player s development. Our teams will compete in leagues under the South Carolina Youth Soccer Association with the addition of state and regional events depending on the level of the group. Teams will compete in various tournaments throughout the year with all players expected to take part. Teams will generally compete in three to five tournaments throughout the year. 2.

7 THE GPS NASA PREMIER PROGRAM: DIRECTORY & COMMUNICATION PROTOCOL Every GPS NASA team will have the following organizational structure: Head Coach: Responsible for all soccer specifics, the team calendar, training, and communicating effectively with each and every family. Parent Coordinator (PC): Responsible for communication of all team logistics and provides administrative support to the Head Coach. The Parent Coordinator has no input on any soccer-related matters. Directors of Coaching (DOC): Responsible for overseeing all team matters within their specific division: GPS NASA Boys Director: Lewis Dougherty GPS NASA Girls Director: Sean Hart GPS NASA Parent Coordinator Liaison: Jennifer Jennings GPS NASA Administrative Assistant: Ashley Mitchell GPS NASA Club Registrar: Patrick Jackson GPS Carolina General Manager: Luke Krawczyk GPS has implemented a program from a communication perspective called the C.A.R.E initiative. C A R E Communication Accountability Respect Exceed Expectations Head coaches are expected to communicate effectively with each and every player and family throughout the season to ensure there is always clarity in the decision-making process and organization if any last minute changes should arise. Head coaches will be communicating regularly with parents and players on the team. The protocol will be: Pre-Season Meeting: Game Reports: Player Evaluations: Needs to be attended by players and at least one parent. Follow-up report on weekend games and tournaments. End of season individual player evaluations. Players should be clear on the areas that they do well in and on areas where improvement is needed. There should be no surprises at the end of year evaluation. If a parent wishes to discuss a soccer-related question with the Head Coach, they should arrange a specific time to speak on the phone or meet with the Head Coach in person. It is against club policy for a parent to approach a Head Coach directly after a game. 5.
