LDJFC COACHING PLANNER SMALL SIDED GAMES SESSION AIMS: COUNTER ATTACKING 1) GENERATE NUMEROUS ATTACKING OPTIONS 2) IDENTIFY THE BEST ATTACKING OPTION 3) CHANGE THE DIRECTION, STYLE AND PACE OF ATTACKS SETUP: 4 GOAL GAME.. 20 x 30yrd pitch with 2yrd goal in each corner. Players play 4v4, attacking an end. Encourage players not to keep goal (exclusion zone may be required). Once a team has scored, they reset and begin to defend. Floaters and wing players can be introduced to encourage fast attacks. Give the teams a shape: 2-2 OR Progression: Teams can attack any of the 4 goals. Progression: Goals can be exchanged for end zones. RULES: No goalkeepers. 1) TEAM SHAPE - REACT QUICKLY AND RECOVER TO SHAPE, NOT TO THE BALL. 2) VISION VERBAL - IDENTIFY OPPORTUNITIES TO ATTACK AND DO SO QUICKLY. 3) ORGANISE THE SHAPE TO PROTECT THE GOALS.

They then attack the B End Zone. If they become dispossessed, they retreat back to the safe zone to start again. Progression 1: G can attack either end at will. Progression 2: If Y/B win the ball, they can begin to attack. RULES: Team in possession can retreat back to the Safe Zone whenever they like. Team not in possession must stay in their area. 1) BE PATIENT WHEN LOOKING FOR THROUGH BALL - DO NOT RUSH IT AND RECYCLE IF REQUIRED. 2) RUNS SHOULD BE ARCED AND TIMED TO REMAIN ONSIDE AND EXPLOIT PASSING LANE - ARRIVE WHEN THE BALL ARRIVES!
LDJFC COACHING PLANNER SMALL SIDED GAMES SESSION AIMS: PRESSING 1) DEVELOP THE TECHNIQUE OF THE HIGH INTENSITY DEFENSIVE PRESS 2) CONTAIN OR COMMIT? 3) SUPPORTING THE PRESSING PLAYER SETUP: 8v3 on a 20x30yrd pitch with a 5yrd central channel. Play begins with one defender (Y) in each section. Progression 1) Allow 2 pressing players into an area (after 30 seconds of successful possession), maintaining one defender in central channel. Progression 2) Allow transfer of 2 attacking players (B) into the other area to create 6v2). RULES: One defender must remain in the central area at all times. 1) PRESSING PLAYER SHOULD RESTRICT THE OPTIONS BY PRESSING ON THE LINE OF PASSES/TARGETS. 2) PRESSING PLAYERS SHOULD CONCENTRATE ON RESTRICTING THE SPACE OF THE TEAM IN POSSESSION. 3) SUPPORTING PRESSING PLAYERS SHOULD FOCUS ON SCREENING THE SWITCH/RELIEF PASS.
LDJFC COACHING PLANNER SMALL SIDED GAMES SESSION AIMS: POSSESSION 1) DEVELOP NUMEROUS PASSING OPTIONS TO MAINTAIN POSSESSION 2) RELIEVE PRESSURE WHEN IN POSSESSION 3) QUICK REACTION TO TURNOVER OF POSSESSION SETUP: 3 equal teams in a large area. Two teams play keep ball from the other team (8v4). Once the defending players win the ball, the game stops and resets. Progression 1) Once possession turns over, the team must keep possession for three passes. Progression 2) Fluid play - once possession turns over, the team who lost the ball become 'on' (signified by coaches shout - BLUES ON!). 1) MAKE THE PITCH BIG - GET INTO SPACE AND STRETCH THE DEFENDERS. 2) RELIEVE THE BALL TO PLAYERS IN SPACE, AWAY FROM DEFENDERS. 3) INTENSE PRESS IMMEDIATELY AFTER TURNOVER OF POSSESSION - USE THE DISORGANISATION TO WIN THE BALL BACK.
LDJFC COACHING PLANNER SMALL SIDED GAMES SESSION AIMS: SWITCHING PLAY / TURNING 1) QUICKLY DEVELOP AND SPOT OPPORTUNITIES TO SWITCH PLAY 2) PLAY WIDE WITH A BIG PITCH 3) DEVELOP QUICK TURNING TECHNIQUE SETUP: Two equal teams (no more than 4v4 on the inside), with a target player on each side. Players play possession trying to work the ball from one target player to another. Focus should be on the number of times play is switched, not necessarily how long a team keeps the ball. Progression 1: When a player passes to a target player, he becomes the target player. Progression 2: Reactive target players - coach can change the direction of the play on the fly. 1) TARGET PLAYERS SHOULD RECYCLE THE BALL BACK IN QUICKLY. 2) TARGET SHOULD BE PROACTIVE, LOOKING FOR GAPS AND MOVING UP AND DOWN. 3) PLAY WHAT YOU SEE - SHORT/LONG PASS, DRIBBLE, RUN, THROUGH BALL (TURN/HALF TURN).
