1 CELEBRATING 14 YEARS OF SINGLESGOLF IN AMERICA Hickory Chapter - American Singles Golf Association December 2006 FROM THE PRESIDENT Merry Christmas - Happy Holidays! It s hard to believe that we are closing in on a new year has been so very interesting, challenging, and flat out FUN that I, for one, am reluctant to see it end. But being the eternal optimist, I believe 2007 will be even better. Now that our elections are over, I m overjoyed by the number of veterans who volunteered to continue to serve. I am further encouraged by the many members who have chosen (for the first time) to participate in the operations and management of our club. With this quantity and quality of help, we can t help but improve the club for all its members. December is shaping up to be another great month full of activities, highlighted by the not-to-be-missed Christmas Party! See you there! ~Bill Lautzenheiser GENERAL MEETING in November It was another record-breaker for 2006 when twenty-eight (28) members/guests (Wayne, Sam, Barbara, Jim, Priscilla, Anne S., Lib, John S., Bill L., Charlene, Kim, Diane, Ann C., Gary, John L., Cliff Viegard/Charlotte Chapter, Virginia, Claudetta, Judy, Dana, Brenda, Peggy, Richard, Linda, and guests Brenda Hefner, Nancy Frazier, Randy Herman, and Kelly Yoke) attended the Hickory Chapter s regularly scheduled, monthly meeting on Thursday, November 9, 2006, at the Oyster Bar/Ramada Inn at 6:30 pm, with Bill Lautzenheiser presiding. EDITORIAL COMMENTS Golf Chairperson As 2006 draws to a close, I d like to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful golf opportunities that we have had this year, to thank all of you, who helped make them possible, and to share some plans for the ensuing year. Locally - we hosted two major outings on Saturdays and Sundays of each month (including more than 50 people at joint-chapter events at Rock Barn and Tanglewood), we increased the number of Nine & Dines during the seasonal months, we sponsored our first inaugural Club Championship, and we participated in many impromptu and charity games. Regionally we were able to stagger our golf calendar with those of the Asheville, UpState SC, and Charlotte Chapters in order to participate in each others monthly functions at some very fine courses. We also attended multi-chapter, weekend events at Kodak, TN; Southern Pines, St. Simon s, GA; Santee, Lake Lure, and Myrtle Beach. Nationally Some members attended ASGA-sponsored outings at Orlando, FL, and Pinehurst, NC, and will have the option of Tampa, FL, at New Years. I would personally like to thanks all of you, who hosted Saturday/Sunday golf;
6 the Board of Directors, who assisted with events regularly; River Crest and Hampton Heights Golf Clubs, who accommodated us very generously all year at 9/18- hole events; and all the other courses, who offered us reduced rates and other amenities. We have been very active in 2006 and we do not expect any less next year. A mere handful of members have been working diligently to keep our club running smoothly and although the Board has appointed more members to various golf subcommittees - we still need your help! Please check your schedules and volunteer to host or help with a few of the events. We will continue to enjoy the benefits of ASGA as more of us work closely together. Thanks for your help!
