MG Car Club of South Australia MGC NEWS MGC conversations with Richard Mixture, October 2018 H Smoke makes the lights go on! ello again, it s Richard here. The Antique Automobile Club America, God bless their little socks, published this wonderful piece of scientific logic all about things British and MG Experience has published it as well. So, I thought, why shouldn t we do it too? They called it ELECTRICAL THEORY BY JOSEPH LUCAS I m sure it had nothing to do with Joe Lucas ( ) but was the recorded mutterings of some Octagonafiles with plenty of time of their hands and little else to do. It probably happen at night when you consider that slogan attributed to Lucas Electrics, "A gentleman does not motor about after dark." These gentlemen can t possibly be English Gentlemen, can they? Anyway, it goes like this; Positive ground depends on proper circuit functioning, which is the transmission of negative ions by retention of the visible spectral manifestation known as "smoke". Smoke is the thing that makes electrical circuits work. We know this to be true because every time one lets the smoke out of an electrical circuit, it stops working. This can be verified repeatedly through empirical testing. For example, if one places a copper bar across the terminals of a battery, prodigious quantities of smoke are liberated and the battery shortly after ceases to function. In addition, if one observes smoke escaping from an electrical component such as a Lucas voltage regulator, it will also be observed that the component no longer functions. The logic is elementary and inescapable! 8 The function of the wiring harness is to conduct the smoke from one device to another. When the wiring springs a leak and lets all the smoke out of the system, nothing works afterward. Starter motors were considered unsuitable for British motorcycles for some time largely because they consumed large quantities of smoke, requiring very unsightly large wires. It has been reported that Lucas electrical components are possibly more prone to electrical leakage than their Bosch, Japanese or American counterparts. Experts point out that this is because Lucas is British, and all things British leak. British engines leak oil, British shock absorbers, hydraulic forks and disk brake systems leak fluid, British tires leak air and British Intelligence leaks national defence secrets. Therefore, it follows that British electrical systems must leak smoke. Once again, the logic is clear and inescapable. In conclusion, the basic concept of transmission of electrical energy in the form of smoke provides a logical explanation of the mysteries of electrical components especially British units manufactured by Joseph Lucas, Ltd. the transmission of negative ions by retention of the visible spectral manifestation known as "smoke"? Surely this phase is creative writing at its best. There are several creative, SA Car Club members that come to mind whose short circuit brains can put words together in such an innovative way and one of them owns an MGC!

I m told that back in the '70s, Lucas decided to diversify its product line and began manufacturing vacuum cleaners. It was the only product they offered which did not suck. October 2018 Torsion Bar Run Now MGCers et al, the sun is shining and the flowers are blooming so it s time for an MGC run, put Saturday 20 th October in your diary and we'll meet at 1.30pm at Beaumont Road, Adelaide, just off of Greenhill Road. On this run we might just head for the hills, again. Remember ladies and gentlemen keep em tuned, Rich I m sure you have all seen this photo of replacement smoke Thanks MG Experience 9

MG Car Club of South Australia PRE-WAR & T - REGISTER From..John Bray, Photos from David McNabb The Goodwood Survival meeting 6 September 2018 H eld just off Goodwood Road at Robert and Beverly Horn s at Mills Street Clarence Park, it was a great night of arrive and survive especially as several of our prominent members were absent in the UK at the Goodwood Revival held annually, we simply held our own Goodwood Revival with 19 Register vehicles in attendance, supplemented of course by Hornys 4 T Types in the garage. The garage was immaculate again this year and Robert certainly got a move on and presented it in a fit and proper condition for our pleasure, and it was for the 47 that signed in, thanks Robert. Thankyou. I can tell you that it was a late request that I made to Robert and Bev Horn the week before when my other plans fell over, to have the register again this year at their home. ( more importantly the T Type stable) Thank you so much for your great hospitality. It is always a good sign of a successful meeting when you leave at 11.0pm after chewing the fat around the heater with Robert and a few stragglers held together by Bob Schapel. Apologies. Those swanning about the UK include messers I Buckley, T Martin, A Pearson, R Finch & J Whiting. some dressed for the occasion in 1950 s period attire I am reliably told. At home they include, C Kinney, G Brice, M Greenwood, T Wright, I Purdey (KI), D McNaughton, M Woodhouse, B Forth, L Ritcher, P Auld, & Geraldine Hough (recovering) Serena Williams (dummy spit), C Ramos (deremits) & N Osaka ( unnoticed) 10 General Business. There was quite a lot of discussion as usual however I will try to be brief and include all especially those with show and tell items and items of considerable interest. Artfur Rummager proudly displayed his Shell Trophy awarded to him for his 1934 ND MG by the Sporting Car Club of SA, a nice show & tell I would not say richly deserved but good anyway. Bob Schapel was fishing for some M Types history, not sure why but he did circulate a list for those wanting to purchase TC wiper $14 AUD per blade. Hope that he has got it right, I saw them advertised on the web at $14 GBP! Linton and Jenny Schiller, fresh from their outstanding photographic display on the cover of the August magazine with the TF, attended their first register meeting. They are prepared to pay for more magazines as they only have one to their name, I did suggest that it will be a long time before it comes around again, none of get a second go it seems, the editor is pretty astute. Doug Clarke apparently has not serviced the car yet, he is wanting to change the oil in his dad s TD and screw

in a new filter, guess it takes time Doug. He has just come back from way up north and had some great photos of cars coming through on a world wide rally including a n MG TC. Russell had some give- away bags which nobody seemed enthusiastic about. This is what happens in retirement, old company trinkets (Singapore Airlines) surface from the cupboards and get deposited on friends. Guess it keeps Marg happy Russ. Ken Burke our inspector of Registers, is looking for a rear boot tail light for his Farina Bodied Series 3 Magnette, not much joy from the meeting but a few suggestions were given out. John Tamke was confused about the Kimber Run destination this year, I thought that there was no need to get ahead of the pack unless you need to be first in the line for lunch John! Dean Hosking let us know that the paint company at Hendon sell MG maroon red engine paint now at $60 per 500ml and you can get it into spray cans for convenience but the cost goes up. Graham Loader talked about the mid week lunch runs, I think he is organising, sorry I was distracted and missed the message Graham. ( it is quite hard balancing on the ladder) Good to see the Goolwa Boys up from the deep south, Don Ghost who walks & Peter Shipside. Peter apparently 11 October 2018 warmed up a bed for Ray Finch at Wayne Spencer s home in the UK while on holiday. Wayne still has a TC in the shed back here in Adelaide and is involved in a Micro Brewery. All sounds good to me especially if Peter can swing a register night at the brewery when he gets back. Chris Bennet has an interesting story, he was lent a spare axle for the TF trip to the Nat Meet in Tasmania way back by a good samaritan from the club. However he cannot remember who it was that lent him the axle, more importantly he wants to tell him it was not needed thankfully. ( may as well keep it or put it on EBay Chris ) The Glassons, Geoff & Judy, good to see you back with us again, likewise McLeans Geoff & Anne back from holidays. Doc Whyatt also back with his finger diagnosis advice. (scary) Peter Cundy arrived just as we were discussing his promotional video advertising the Bay To Birdwood event, great presentation in his garage, very authentic white overalls slighty greased but not creased Peter. Looks like a great venue for a first register meeting sometime next year maybe? Saw dust. I must say that we were enthralled by Robert s demonstration of his wood turning lathe that he patented some years ago. You might see the pictures by David McNabb on the website of some of us covered in wood turnings during the demo. Robert has an avid interest in wood turning and highly detailed joinery and cabinet work. We were treated to a viewing of his work inside including model sailing vessels, replica of the Endeavour which has absolutely fine detailing. Beverly

MG Car Club of South Australia showed us some of her fine needlework which is quite intricate and beautiful as a result. A very talented couple are the Horns. Next meeting. The Big Shed Night 4 October, Peter & Bronwyn Micklem s Paechtown near Hahndorf. 57 Yantaringa Road. Preplanning has started I am told by Bronwyn, the big shed will be ready. Meeting at Crafers Park n Ride at 6.00pm leaving 6.20pm for Hahndorf. November meeting, dinner night at Stanley Bridge Tavern, 1 Nov. December meeting at Mozzarella s Eden Hills under the old olive tree. 6 Dec. Cheers and jolly good show. John Bray BOTR 12

I MG Car Club of South Australia MG Car Club of SA Inc. New Librarian d like to introduce myself, I m Stephen Marlow and I m the Club s new librarian, taking over the role from Geraldine Hough. The library is a great resource of the club, with more than 400 books plus magazines, journals, DVDs and videos all related in one way or another to cars with an obvious emphasis on MGs. These are available for members to borrow at no charge, with a nominal borrowing period of 4-6 weeks, though I ll continue Geraldine s policy of some leniency on that. Some of these books are rare and valuable, so the library is kept under lock and key but is readily accessible via myself, all current serving executive committee members, and the historic committee director, Ian Denny. Books may be borrowed (and returned) on monthly general meeting nights, Friday night Noggin N Natter, or Saturday historic registration mornings. Details of how to borrow and return items are on an A4 notice on the right hand door of the library cupboards. There s also a printed catalogue of items which I will leave in the room please make sure it stays there! A general guide to where you will find various books: the cupboard furthest to the right (with a blue dot) is mainly for manuals, maintenance, and restoration. To its left (green dot) MG related stories. Left again (red dot) motoring books Furthest left (yellow dot) magazines, videos, DVDs and odds and ends. Members can suggest books for the club to buy or make any other suggestions re the library please me stephen@smarlow.com.au I ll keep you updated on library news from time to time via the magazine and at monthly meetings, in the meantime please enjoy! 18 MG Car Club of South Australia BREAKFAST RUN REPORT From..Steve Spong, Breakfast Run to Angaston Oval 26th August 2018 nce more we were blessed with a O perfect winter s day for our run to Angaston, as witnessed by the various classic cars seen out and about that day. First Timers on the run were long time club members Chris & Heather Bennett, so we look forward to seeing them again on future runs. Run regulars, Gary & Velli Algate turned up in their new acquisition, a lovely black with a white roof Mini Cooper S, so adding yet another mini to the growing number now owned by club members. Alan & Ros Foweraker joined us later after watching their grandson s footy team making the under 11s final, so good luck in the finals. There were one or two MG troubles on the day, no doubt due to the cars having had a winter rest. Roger and Caroline Boylen s car needed a push to leave Veale Gardens but was ok thereafter. Ken & Barb Dicker had a sick car and so returned home to later join the group in their road car. Phil & Esther Smith s car was running poorly to Angaston where the problem was immediately traced to a red-hot coil! but a new one from the local auto shop fixed the problem. At the oval, locals and club members, Malcolm & Cynthia Helbig arrived in their red They had been out for a morning run in the sun when they saw a load of MGs and so came to investigate. We had a good chat and hope to see them as participants on a future run. Upon leaving the oval, some went for a drive, some to the bakery and a few of us ended up at a pub in Angaston for 16 lunch, where we bumped into none other than our Mr. President and his good lady Rosa who were spending a weekend in the Barossa. Well that s Adelaide for you! So thanks to all who came and to those who sent their apologies for the day. 22 MG Car Club of South Australia REGISTER EVENT From Steve Spong..Photos by David McNabb W Visit to Collectable Classics, Strathalbyn Saturday 21st July 2018 e had been kindly invited by Collectable Classics to visit their new show-rooms in Rankine Street, Strathalbyn. Ben Finnis and Collectable Classics are long time supporters of the MGCCSA, often sponsoring our major events, and so it was great to see some 50 Club members readily take up the invite!, especially given the wet forecast which luckily did not eventuate. So thanks to all who came and my apologies if I missed you signing on. The event attracted some new and recent club members, plus previous member Chris Hunt in his BGT who was back in Adelaide for the weekend. There were two Mini Coopers in the run, with David Evens and son Jack in their recently acquired Cooper S, plus Leigh Albertson in his recently restored 1970 Mark 2 Cooper S. decided to have it restored to its original glory. Having only just taken back possession he was proud to bring it out on its first proper run. It looks terrific! Some made their own way directly to Strath, however about 15 cars set out from Veale Gardens and headed through the Hills, where the "conga" line was joined in the Eastern Suburbs, in Summertown and again was lengthened as we drove through Mylor. Unfortunately Olly Wegner's car broke a drive shaft as he pulled up in Summertown, so he got a lift the rest of the way with Nick Micklem and had the car towed home later. We were met at Collectable Classics by Ben Gillespie and directed into their car park where some 20 to 30 cars were crammed in, causing much interest in the town and resulting in the visitor numbers swelling even further. After coffee and biscuits we all explored the various buildings and admired the huge and varied range of highly collectable cars, and bikes. I'll let the photos speak for themselves, and the website is well worth a look. Leigh bought the car in Melbourne in 1986 and had it resprayed from orange back to the original and rare factory Tamarisk Green with a white roof. The car then followed him in his moves to Tasmania and to SA, when in 2015 he 20

Ben Finnis welcomed us all and gave an overview of the facility, outlining his aims for the business including developing further the motorbike section, and even invited us to a private viewing of some locked away cars. Ben infact threw open a general invite to all Club Members to visit his display any time when in Strath. All in all we could see their passion for the cars and would like to sincerely thank Collectable Classics for dedicating so much time to us. Attendees... 25 October 2018 MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS From..Mike Greenwood H i all, Following the decision of Di Holmes to stop organising the MG Car Club s Mid-week Lunch runs I asked if there were any likeminded members willing to take up the mantle to form a small group and continue on with the very enjoyable events started many years ago by David & Joy Pearson. Graham Loader has stepped in to run the September event and Garry Chapman has also said he would help. Graham and Garry have extensive knowledge of wonderful roads ideal for driving pleasure in our MG s and I am willing to help as well. The Committee has been made aware of our intention and for some mention being made at monthly meetings to encourage members not only to come to these mid-week runs but also to put their hand up to do a run, all it takes is to suggest a start location and lunch location able to seat at least members and friends and we will do the organising. We would appreciate your help. Kind regards Mike G WANTED Regalia person to administer the Club s regalia stocks. If you have an ability; to source items that MG Club members may be interested in purchasing are able to liaise with suppliers for quotations and purchase maintain physical stock and handle sales to members keep an update price list in the magazine and web site you may be the person to be the Regalia person for the Club. 30 MG Car Club of South Australia CLUB REGISTRATION From..Geoff Goode CLUB REGISTRATION FOR HISTORIC MOTOR VEHICLES CHANGES, MYTHS AND FACTS hanges to our procedures: For the C next financial year, 2019, subscriptions for membership can still be paid late in the Jan/Feb months as per past practice. However, for years 2020 onwards, subscriptions to the Club must be paid in advance; this applies to all members, as per the Club s constitution. This is especially important for owners of historic vehicles on Club Registration as these members must remain financial members of a motor vehicle club at all times. Therefore, members will be required to pay subscriptions in advance, before the end of 2019 for the 2020 year. An invoice will be sent out in October 2019 for subscription payments in the Nov/ Dec period. The Club Treasurer and Club Registration inspectors will be available to collect subs and update or replace log books as required, respectively, for each Saturday morning in November 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, and for December 7 and 14, The normal second and fourth Saturday inspection mornings will resume in January through to the end of October in the year Facts: If you fail to remain a financial member of a motor vehicle club, and are caught driving by the police, a fine of up to $750 may be charged. The same applies if you forget to fill out your log book before making a journey. However, if you have broken a law as well, you may lose your club registration, have to revert back to normal registration and pay the 28 difference over the financial year period, as well as pay a fine. So be very careful out on the public roads, observing the road rules at all times, as one should; but especially if you tend to be forgetful! If a second driver drives the vehicle, another line must be signed off for the same journey. If the journey spans more than one day, a second entry is required for the second day, and so on. This includes a return to home after midnight from a party, meeting, event, etc. This constitutes a second journey and must therefore, be entered into the log book before commencement. Myths: The ninety days of log book usage is within the Club s financial year. Actually, the journeys are counted from day one of your vehicle s registration to the last day for that one year period. Although commonly thought, if you have failed to remain a financial member of a motoring club or have forgotten to fill in the details of your journey and are involved in an accident, you will not be covered by third party insurance and considered unregistered. This is a myth; you will still be registered and insured. A big fine may be charged or worse, as per above. Now, a reminder: Replacement of expired log books may be sooner than you think. The red inked date for log book replacement is shown on the front cover, is no longer valid. The important date from now on will be the date of expiry for the third year of club membership. The front cover date will be corrected when the log book is updated

in the January / February period next year. A new log book will be required if this year s membership details are shown under Membership Year 3 (found on page 4 in from the front cover). So, please bring your new membership card to show you are continuing as a financial member, your blue rego papers for us to stamp to prove you are the owner of the vehicle and finally, 29 October 2018 your log book, for update or replacement. Remember to bring $5 for log book replacement is required. Normal operations at the Club rooms continue for October and November, on the 2 nd and 4 th Saturdays the month, and in December only on the 1st and 8th. The rooms will be open from 10am to 12 noon. Geoff Goode Club Registrar Technical Sheet 19 Forwarded by Mike Greenwood from Brian Woolmer New style Welch Plugs The dish type welch plugs (steel or brass) used on Magnette engines have a habit of leaking or popping out. This can present a serious problem if this happens while you are driving especially well away from home. They can be used for all MG B series engines. A new style of welch plug is now available that will get you out of trouble. They are made from stainless steel with neoprene seals on the rim and on the hex screw. You simply knock out the leaking welch plug loosen the hex screw gradually until you can slip the retaining bar inside the block. Centre the plug and then using an Allen key tighten firmly. Top up your water and you are on your way. If you want to remove them loosen the hex screw but be careful not to loosen too much or the retaining bar can fall into the water jacket. These plugs can be purchased from Rob Thompson at: American HEMI Speed Centre P.O. Box 392 North Adelaide SA 5006 Ph: M: E:info@hemi.com.au

MG Car Club of South Australia 1932 MG Le Mans tovictor Harbor by..bob Schapel W a y n e Hough s magnificent photo of the 1932 MG on the cover of last month s magazine, grabbed my attention. The photo gave me a few clues, but a bit of research confirmed that it was the car once owned by my father, Lou, about 75 years ago. This car won its class at Le Mans! I remember Lou s stories and have read about its early history in John Thornley s book, MAINTAINING THE BREED. The car started life as a C-Type in 1932, having chassis number C0291. As such, it was designed for oval track racing, such as Montlhery and Brooklands, where brakes and gears were little used. In fact Montlhery Midget was Thornley s title for his chapter on C- Types. The car originally had 8 brakes, a pointy tail and perhaps a number 6 Powerplus supercharger. Sadly, the owner Harry Leeson, was killed while racing a C-Type (presumably this car) in 30 the 1932 JCC 1000 Mile Race at Brooklands. Early in 1933, the car was bought by race-drivers, John Ford and Maurice Baumer. They had it modified by the MG factory, to J4 specifications, so it would suit road racing at Le Mans and Mannin Beg (Isle of Man) later that year. I distinctly remember Lou telling me that the changes included a large capacity slab fuel tank in place of the pointy tail, 12 inch brakes, a Laystall crankshaft and the bigger (number-8 Powerplus) supercharger. John Thornley, who was Director and General Manager of the MG Company, actually calls the car a J4 in his book. He states (in the chapter about J-Types) that Ford and Baumer took their J4 to 6th place at Le Mans and 3 rd place at Mannin Beg in Anders Ditlev Clausager also calls the car The supercharged MG J4 Midget in his book titled Le Mans. I understand why Lou often called the car The J4 Prototype. A class win and sixth place outright at Le Mans, was quite an achievement for the 750cc MG. Nuvolari, in his only Le Mans race, drove the winning 2.3 litre supercharged Alfa, followed by two similar cars in second and third places. Fourth was a 1.1 litre Riley and fifth a 1.5 litre Aston Martin. I don t know any C0291 history during 1934, however, Ford and Baumer, both went on to race K3 Magnettes. Baumer bought K3 028 in 1934 and Ford bought K3 027 in In about 1935, John Dutton, whose family owned Anlaby Station near Kapunda, bought C0291 and a Vauxhall 30/98 in England. He shipped both cars to Adelaide and planned to select one to drive at Victor Harbor in the South Australian Centenary Grand Prix on 26 th December

1936. (Later, this race was retrospectively re-named The 1937 Australian Grand Prix ) Several months before the race, John Dutton driving the Vauxhall near Mount Gambier, crashed off the road and into the Blue Lake. Fortunately, John survived the accident as he was caught in bushes and saplings on the steep slope down to the water, but the Vauxhall continued into the Blue Lake. It remained submerged at a depth of about 75 metres for more than a year and was not recovered before the Victor Harbor race. Recently, on August 6 th this year, The Advertiser published an article regarding cars crashing into the Blue Lake and included a photo of the Vauxhall being salvaged. 31 October 2018 With the Vauxhall unavailable, John Dutton drove C0291 in the Grand Prix and finished 10 th in a field of 27 cars. Three K3s were starters but none of them finished the 250 mile handicap. The race was won by Les Murphy in a P-Type MG, which started 35 minutes before the Ford V8 special that actually set the fastest race time. A few years later, Lou bought C0291 and the repaired Vauxhall from different sources. I don t know when Lou got to know John Dutton, but I do know that they became good friends and did some spotlight shooting at Anlaby. I assume the cars were the catalyst for their friendship. During Lou s ownership,(that was in the early 1940s) Lou told me that when he had C0291, the body was quite rough because it had been deliberately damaged to prevent duty having to be paid when it was imported from England. He said large holes had been cut in the sides. Repairs had been made, but the scars were still evident. Australia at the time did not have a car manufacturing industry, but it did have a car body industry to protect. Lou had two cylinder heads for C0291. I think one was for use with supercharger while the other was for normally aspirated use. Continued overleaf

MG Car Club of South Australia Lou wrote to the MG Factory for information about the car. The reply he received was the source of his detailed knowledge of the 1933 factory upgrade. I remember Lou telling me that every time M.G. was mentioned in the factory letter, a single key was used, and it typed the octagonal MG logo. He passed the letter on to a subsequent owner, Gavin Sandford-Morgan. Lou told me that he since asked if the letter, or a copy, could be returned to him, but unfortunately, that never eventuated. Gavin Sandford-Morgan bought C0291 in 1947 (I think directly from Lou) and sold it about a year later. Gavin bought it again in 1965 and after several years, restored it to magnificent condition, with a pointy tailed body. In about 1999 the son of Ford and Baumer s mechanic sought to find the whereabouts of the car which his father helped maintain. He eventually traced it to Gavin in early Russell Garth, our own Register Secretary at the time, was one of the links in the Englishman s successful search. Gavin sold C0291 back to the U.K. in about I notice that its English registration number, JK2340, is the same now as it was in You might have noticed that I have not called the car a C-Type or a J4 since mentioning its 1933 upgrade. I have referred to it by the chassis number, C0291. That is because I now pose questions for our philosophers to discuss. Is the car a C-Type or a J4? Should the car have been rebuilt as a pointy tailed C-Type, as it was for a few months after its first emergence from the MG factory? Or should it have been rebuilt as a slab-tank J4 as it was for the next sixty years, during which it forged most of its history? I imagine this issue would have been a dilemma for Gavin Sandford-Morgan. These are historical continuity issues (Thanks Terry Wright for that terminology) for which there might be no definitive answers. Gavin chose the pointy tail option and the car is commonly referred to as a C-Type.. But I do notice that the photo on the cover of last month s magazine shows that it still has the 12 inch brakes of the J4. 35 All MG Day 9 Sep 2018 October 2018 hat a glorious morning to get the W MG out of the shed and drive into the Torrens parade ground. The weather held up all day, with slightly mild and sunny conditions. This year s event was held in the city close to the Adelaide Oval, the River Torrens and the shopping precinct of Rundle Mall. Before many of the cars started to arrive, some members were out and about setting up the venue with tents and parking routes. As with any event there is a group of people that do the work behind the scenes in arranging venue access and the catering. Many thanks to Sandra Cardnell and Dick Manning for organising and running the event, Rob Hal for the PA and announcing, Steve Bowra on the gate, Tim Edmonds and Steve Spong doing traffic marshalling and Alan Cardnell setting up the tents and flags.. The catering arrived and soon the smell of bacon and eggs, and sausage sizzles from the Lions Club of Rostrevor, and fresh coffee from The Coffee Van hit the air. There was also a tent setup to sell models of cars and they had a raffle going as well. All the cars made an entrance through the MG club banner (see pic) and made their way to park. Many members milled around to look at the cars, whilst others went off for shopping or meals at eateries in the Mall. These events allow members who generally don t get the opportunity to meet, the time and space to look and talk about their cars. The event was opened by our Patron Ed Ordynski, and our Vice President, Tim Edmonds welcomed those pre- 33

MG Car Club of South Australia sent. They informed the gathering of upcoming events, such as the talk with Gary Chapman on the 12 th of Oct and the Adelaide Rally in Nov. The model being celebrated for their 21 st anniversary were the MGF s and 9 of them presented on the day. Another 7 MGF/TF s added to the numbers, giving a good representation of the model over the years. Dick Manning the F- Register co-ordinator counted 22, so some may have come in later. Thanks to those who filled out the attendance slip. This gave us an overall picture of the number and type of MG s attending. (see table below) Supercharged Special. (see pics) The MG s ranged from Peter Cundy s 1934 NA, to Chris & Wes Bray s 2018 MG ZS. Mention must be made of Geoff Burls and family bringing 5 MG s to display! Cars that stood out from the crowd were Bazz s 1935 KN, Gary Julian s MGC GT Sebring, Brendan Concannon s MGA 34 We were fortunate that we had members from other clubs, Austin 7, SCC and VSCC bring along the MG s to display. We even had a non-member bring along their car. Thanks to David McNabb and Allan Semmler for their photos of the day. To view the many, many other photos, check out the MGCCSA web site. Keep your eyes on the web site and magazine for any upcoming events in the future. Report from..peter Coulson

Upcoming Events for MG Motorsport AMS calendar activity continues C and it is anticipated that the MGCC motorsport calendar for 2019 will again include the MSCA Super Sprints, Sporting Car Club Multi Club Hillclimbs and five rounds of the State Motorkhana Championship. Added to that will be the National Meeting and Challenge. MGCCSA will again run the first round of the motorkhana series early in the year and contribute flaggies to two super sprints at Mallala. If you would like to do more you are welcome at every sprint and, should MSCA run an event at The Bend, there will be a call for as many flaggies as we can find. Last month I wrongly reported the date for the final MSCA Super Sprint. It is on 28 October as reported below. Friday 12 October to Sunday 14 October SA Hillclimb Championship, Collingrove This is a good event to compete or spectate. Practice is on Friday and competition starts with the first run on Saturday morning. The event brings out the best of SA hillclimbers as well as a number of interstate competitors. The competition can be fierce and you can see some cars which are not generally seen in SA. Come and have a look and say g day to the MGCC members competing. As it is an open event you need a CAMS Log Book unless you run in the road registered class but have a look at Supp Regs to confirm you are eligible. Entries via CAMS event entry system.
