SERIES HISTORY Western Kentucky holds a lifetime series lead over Belmont 9-8. However, Belmont has won seven of the last 11 contests. They played yesterday afternoon in Bowling Green, Ky. and Belmont emerged with the 12-8 victory. The two teams split both contests last season. On Mar. 5, 2008, Belmont defeated WKU, 6-1, at Greer Stadium in Nashville, Tenn. Sophomore Dane Swinehart (Lancaster, Ohio) earned his first career win in the contest. Senior Brandon McCall (Spring Hill, Tenn.) had two hits and two runs scored in the contest. Sophomore Nate Woods (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) scored two runs and junior Packy Elkins (Raleigh, N.C.) drew two walks. On Mar. 18 of that same year, WKU earned a 14-6 victory over the Bruins at Nick Denes Field in Bowling Green, Ky. McCall hit his second home run of that season in the contest. Elkins drew three walks in the game and junior Daniel Wagner (China Grove, N.C.) had two hits. On Mar. 3, a single to left field gave Wiley 174 RBIs for his career, surpassing Wilson Tucker who from gained 173 RBIs for Belmont. He also holds the single-season RBI record for Belmont with 65 in A-Sun Presesaon Poll (First Place Votes) Kennesaw State (6) Lipscomb (3) FGCU (1) Stetson Jacksonville (1) UNF Belmont Mercer Campbell USC Upstate ETSU Tournament Champion: Stetson and Lipscomb tied at five votes BOWLING GREEN, KY. - The Belmont baseball team (4-4) used a five-run seventh inning to secure a 12-8 victory over Western Kentucky (5-2) at Nick Denes Field in Bowling Green, Ky. on Tuesday afternoon. Junior Cameron Heath (Jackson, Mo.) earned his first win as a Bruin by going two-full innings and giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits. He (1-0) had one strikeout. Chad Adcock (0-1) was charged with the loss for the Hilltoppers after going 3.1 innings and giving up four runs on four hits with three strikeouts. The Hilltoppers started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with a three-run home run to right field by Chad Cregar to give WKU the early 3-0 lead. Terrance Dayleg and Matt Hightower were on base during the home run. The next batter for WKU, Wade Gaynor, hit a solo home run to center field to increase the lead to 4-0. Belmont responded in the top of the third inning with five runs to take the lead. The inning starting with an infield

3 single to the shortstop by freshman Dylan Craig (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) which scored sophomore Vinny Casha (Nashville, Tenn.) to make the score 4-1 in favor of the Hilltoppers. Casha reached base on a single to second base. The next batter, senior Derek Wiley (Dublin, Calif.) drew a bases-loaded walk to score junior Ryan Kincherlow (Antioch, Tenn.) who also reached on a single, this one to centerfield. The next run came on a fielder's choice hit by senior Brandon McCall (Spring Hill, Tenn.) to score sophomore Derek Hamblen (Plano, Texas). The Bruins continued the scoring with a single to right center by junior Daniel Wagner (China Grove, N.C.) which scored Craig. The final run of the inning came on a single to right field by freshman Phillip Parsley (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) which scored McCall. The Hilltoppers tied the score, 5-5, in the bottom of the sixth inning on a double down the left field line by Matt Bracken which scored Matt Rice. WKU took the lead in that same inning with an RBI single to centerfield by Matt Payton scored Jared Andreoli. The Bruins tied the score in the top of the seventh inning on a triple to right center by Craig which scored Hamblen, who reached on a single to the shortstop. Belmont took the lead, 7-6, on a single to left field by Wiley which scored Craig. Wiley now has 174 RBIs for his career, an all-time school record. Junior Mark Noth (Burr Ridge, Ill.) hit a three-rbi double to left center in the same inning which scored McCall, Wagner and Parsley to give Belmont a 10-6 lead. WKU cut the lead in half in the bottom of the seventh inning on a two-run home run to right-center by Rice which also scored Gaynor to make the score 10-8 in favor of the Bruins. Belmont extended its lead with a two-run home run to right field in the top of the ninth inning by McCall, his first of the season, to make the score 12-8 in favor of the Bruins. JIMMY STANLEY NAMED TO NCBWA STOPPER OF THE YEAR WATCH LIST BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior Jimmy Stanley (Lexington, Ky.) was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year watch list, it was announced last week. The award goes to the top relief pitcher in Division I baseball. The business administration major was recently named to the Atlantic Sun preseason All-Conference team after made 20 appearances for the Bruins last season and had a team-low earned run average of 2.30 with six saves. He had 31 strikeouts with five walks in only 27.1 innings of work and allowed a team-low seven earned runs. Stanley also had a team-low batting average of.229 in his junior campaign for six saves. Former Bruin Chris Manning was named to this watch list last season. WAGNER REACHES CAREER-HIGH IN HITS FOR GAME Junior Daniel Wagner has reached a career-tying high four hits in a game two times this season. The latest effort took place in Belmont s loss to Middle Tennessee State on Feb. 24. KELLEY REACHES CAREER-HIGH IN STRIKEOUTS AGAINST ILLINOIS STATE Senior Brian Kelley (Ormond Beach, Fla.) had a careerhigh 10 strikeouts against Illinois State on Feb. 20. WOODS SETS STRIKEOUT RECORD Sophomore Nate Woods (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) struck out a career-high six batters in his victory over Illinois State on Feb. 20. He has struck out five or more batters in six games for his career. BELMONT BASEBALL PICKED TO FINISH SEVENTH IN ATLANTIC SUN PRESEASON POLL; SENIORS DEREK WILEY AND JIMMY STANLEY NAMED TO ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM MACON, Ga. The Belmont baseball team was picked to finish seventh in the Atlantic Sun Preseason Coaches Poll, it was announced on Thursday. Seniors Derek Wiley (Dublin, Calif.) and Jimmy Stanley (Lexington, Ky.) were named to the All-Conference team at first base and reliever respectively. This is the third consecutive season that the Bruins have been picked to finish seventh in the A-Sun Preseason Poll. Last season, Belmont made its third-consecutive A-Sun Tournament and finished with 16 conference wins.

5 Kennesaw State was selected to win the A-Sun Conference, followed by reigning A-Sun Tournament champions Lipscomb and defending regular-season champions Florida Gulf Coast who both tied for second place. Lipscomb and Stetson each received five coaches votes to win the A-Sun Tournament. Jeremy Cruz of Stetson was named Preseason Player of the Year and Kyle Heckathorn of Kennesaw State was named the Pitcher of the Year. Wiley finished the season second in the A-Sun in home runs (17), seventh in total bases (125), fifth in slugging percentage (.622) and first in RBIs (65), which broke the season-high record for that category in Belmont history, previously held by two former Bruins. He led Belmont in each category listed this season. His home run total for 2008 was also a single-season record, previously held by Brian Bogaard, who posted 16 home runs in Wiley was named to the A-Sun All-Tournament team and was 1489th overall by the Oakland Athletics in the 50th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Early Entry Draft. 9 BELMONT HEAD COACH DAVE JARVIS Head coach Dave Jarvis now begins his twelth season at the helm of the Belmont Bruins, and twety-first season as a head coach. This past season, the Bruins posted 25 wins and made the Atlantic Sun Tournament for the third time in school history. Belmont posted wins over Tennessee, as well as 2008 NCAA participants Lipscomb and Western Kentucky. Outfielder/pticher Carlo Testa was named to the A-Sun First Team as a pitcher and outfielder, the first time this has been accomplished in conference history. Catcher Matt Zeblo and outfielder/pitcher Nate Woods were also named to the All- Freshman team. Testa and infielder Derek Wiley, who was named to the A-Sun All-Tournament team, were selected in the 2008 Entry Draft. Testa was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 18th round and Wiley in the 50th round by the Oakland Athletics. Jarvis led the Bruins to their fourth winning season in five seasons in The team finished overall, including a conference record of The Bruins made their second-ever appearance in the A-Sun Tournament and finished one game short of making the NCAA Tournament. Pitcher Charles Lee, as well as infielder Matt Reynolds, outfielders Kane Simmons and Wilson Tucker and designated hitter Derek Wiley were all named to the Atlantic Sun All-Conference Team. Former Bruin Ben Petsch and Wilson Tucker were selected in the 2007 Major League Draft. Simmons was named the 2007 Golden Baseball League Spalding Rookie of the Year in September and signed with the Colorado Rockies. Tucker was named the MVP of the Burlington Royals, a single A minor league affiliate of the Kansas City Royals in August, Reynolds was signed by the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League saw two players earn first team All-Conference, and Wiley was named the Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year as well as a member of Collegiate Baseball's Freshmen All-American squad. Several other players earned weekly honors from the Atlantic Sun Conference throughout the season as well. Former Belmont pitcher Justin Jordan reached the AAA level after being drafted out of Belmont in Teammate Blake Owen had a successful season in 2006, posting a 7-4 record with a 3.81 earned run average at A-level Delmarva. Cody Blackard played a key role for the Evansville Otters, as they won the Frontier League Championship. In 2005, Jarvis led the Bruins to their third consecutive winning season, and their seventh in his eight years at Belmont. The team finished 28-26, including a road record. The Bruins defeated in-state rival Tennessee for the second straight season, and faced two other opponents from the Southeastern Conference. In 2004, the Bruins posted a record, the most wins in school history. Jarvis was named the A-Sun Coach of the Year in 2003, and his Bruins finished third in the league standings. Despite the disappointing ending, the Bruins continued to rack up honors, with two Bruins earning All-Conference nods and two other Bruins being named Academic All-America. In 2001, Belmont captured their first win over a ranked opponent after knocking off eventual College World Series participant Georgia in Athens, and in 2003, the Bruins defeated #17 Florida Atlantic on the road. In 2004, Belmont toppled two more ranked teams with, besting #23 Tennessee at Knoxville and #30 Florida Atlantic. The 49-year-old Missouri native has a career record of over 20 seasons. He cut his teeth in coaching with a stellar nine-year stint as head coach at Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, Mo. beginning in From , Jarvis' teams were ranked in the top-20 highlighted by a No. 4 ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association poll with a record. He was selected as the Midwest Community College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year three times as baseball coach and once as women's basketball coach. Throughout his tenure as a head coach, a total of 35 players reached the professional ranks including four players who have made it to the major league level: Bart Evans (Kansas City), Jimmy Hurst (Detroit), Chuck Malone (Philadelphia), and Alan Mahaffey (Chicago NL). Jarvis took an opportunity to join Murray State's coaching staff at the NCAA-I level in the fall of 1993 where he was hired by current Belmont Athletic Director, Mike Strickland. As an assistant, he was primarily responsible for the instruction of hitters and catchers as well as teaching base running skills. Jarvis also used his extensive junior college network to create a recruiting pipeline for the Thoroughbreds. As a player, Jarvis capped off his senior campaign at Arkansas State earning a bachelor's degree in education as the team's starting catcher and team captain. He received his Master's degree in education at Arkansas State in A dedicated family man, Jarvis has three sons, Jordan, 15, Logan, 11, and Jackson, 8. The family resides in Franklin, Tennessee.
