2 CRYSTAL C A R W I L E 11 MEASURING STICK Batting Average Improvement All-Big 12 Second Team (2006 & 2007) All-Midwest Region First Team (2006) Crystal Carwile (pronounced CAR-why-ull) has arguably been the Huskers top hitter the past two seasons while leading the team in home runs and RBIs each year. As an upperclassman in 2008, Carwile looks to continue to bring a big bat to the middle of the lineup. Carwile has started every game at fi rstbase through her fi rsttwo seasons, a total of 113 games. One of her key roles this season will be to add an experienced presence on a young team, as only one other Husker has started at least 70 career games (Brittany Pascale, 81). Carwile also has 139 more career at bats than any other player. In 2007, Carwile improved her batting average and on-base percentage while cutting her strikeout total nearly in half. Although her home run and RBI numbers decreased, Carwile ranked among the Big 12 leaders in doubles. Carwile hopes to see her power numbers increase in 2008 with the benefi t of a full offseason of training after shoulder surgery forced her to miss several months of training prior to the 2007 campaign. Carwile has led the Huskers in home runs in each of her fi rst two seasons, becoming just the third player in school history to lead the team in homers as both a freshman and a sophomore. The other two were Ali Viola (1995 & 1996) and Denise Day (1982 & 1983) who combined to earn fi ve All-America awards in their careers, including three first-team selections. This year is a brand new year for Husker softball. We have a lot of new faces and a newfound excitement for the game. I believe that this is going to be one of the best years Nebraska softball has seen in a long time. Junior l Infielder l 5-4 l Bats/Throws: Left/Left l Chino, Calif. (Don Antonio Lugo) Also a solid fi rstbaseman with the unique ability to do a split while going into a full stretch on close plays, Carwile has the opportunity to be a difference maker in the fi eldand at the plate while helping the Huskers reach their lofty expectations. Led by Mullin, the outfi eldis expected to be a strength for Nebraska this season. One of the fastest players on the team, Mullin showed excellent bat control last season while enjoying a breakout year that has her poised for an All-Big 12 campaign in Mullin led the Huskers with a.318 average in 2007 to become the first underclassman to pace NU in hitting since Anne Steffan in Mullin is the sixth underclassman to lead NU in hitting in Coach Revelle s 15 seasons. The previous fi ve players all went on to earn at least one All-America honor while combining for 10 awards. There is a dynamic feeling among the players this season that can t be explained, and it will be exciting to see those feelings come to play on the fi eld. This team has something intangible that will take us a long way. Junior l Outfielder l 5-4 l Bats/Throws: Left/Left l Mesa, Arizona (Seton Catholic) Mullin led the team with 12 stolen bases and she struck out just 15 times in 208 plate appearances last season. She is an ideal candidate to hit at the top of the order and set the table for the run producers in the middle of the lineup. As a slapper, Mullin is excellent at moving runners into scoring position, as she led the Big 12 with 18 sacrifi ceslast season. Mullin has also shown a knack to come through with the clutch hit, as four of her 10 RBIs were gamewinners in 2007, including two in extra innings. Her four game-winning RBIs trailed only Crystal Carwile s fi vefor the most by a Husker last season. (Lincoln Way East) Two-Time Big 12 Commissioner s Honor Roll Selection Brittany Pascale (pronounced PASS-kull) enters the 2008 season as the second-most experienced hitter on an NU squad that features no seniors, one junior college transfer and seven freshmen. Despite her experience, Pascale will be pushed for playing time by several players as she competes for a spot in the lineup. Pascale is the only catcher on the Husker roster with game experience at the Division I level. She caught 27 games last season and showed the ability to contribute offensively and defensively, committing only two errors in 325 career chances. Offensively, Pascale s career batting average is.149 points higher when she also catches (.306-to-.157), as opposed to being the designated player. Known as a patient hitter, Pascale has shown the ability to work the count throughout her career. In 2007, Pascale drew a team-high 29 walks, 15 more than any other Husker. Pascale also boasts a career.357 on-base percentage and has drawn 41 walks, while striking out just 41 times. Pascale drew a team-high 29 walks in 2007 to rank ninth in the Big 12. Her 29 walks ranked as the 10th-highest single-season total in school history and were the most free passes issued to a Husker since two- time Olympian Sheena Lawrick coaxed 33 walks in Pascale had six games where she drew multiple walks, including a pair of contests with three walks. This season can be summed up in three words... young, fearless, competitive. This season will be very exciting because there is great new talent and players that are excited to be here every day and truly love being a Cornhusker. Pascale was bothered by a shoulder injury in 2007 and although she didn t miss any game time, she underwent offseason surgery last June that kept her out of the Huskers fall season. The shoulder injury, along with the arrival of two-time junior college All-American Amanda Duran, could limit Pascale s action at catcher, making her a prime candidate to compete for the starting designated player spot. Sophomore Season [2007] Pascale started 54 games in 2007, including 25 at catcher... started 21 straight games at catcher for the injured Jamie Waldecker before Waldecker returned to the position the fi nalweek of March... drew a team-high 29 walks, although she did not draw a walk over her fi nalsix games... fi rsthusker to post 20 or more walks in a season since Sheena Lawrick had 33 in recorded her fi rstextra-base hit with a double against DePaul on Feb recorded back-to-back two-hit games against Seton Hall and Mississippi State on Feb also added her fi rsttwo RBIs of the season against the Pirates and Bulldogs... tied her career high with two walks against 18thranked Georgia on Feb added two more walks against Fresno State on March 3 and against 18th-ranked Cal one day later... recorded her third two-hit game against Southern Utah on March 2, adding an RBI... although her average dipped.011 points at the Shocker Invitational, she still made a major offensive impact... hit two doubles in fi vegames at the tournament while also scoring a pair of runs... had just one double and one run heading into the tournament... tied a career-high effort by going 3-for-3 against North Dakota State on March 18 while adding a run... drew a career-high three walks in game one of a doubleheader against Colorado State on March 28, one shy of Lawrick s school record... hit her only home run in game one against the Rams... that hit proved to not only be the difference in the Huskers 1-0 victory, but also proved to be NU s lone hit and base runner of the game... had only four hits in a 13-game stretch (28 at bats) prior to posting a career-best four-game hit streak that was snapped at fourth-ranked Oklahoma on April during the rough stretch, still contributed by drawing seven walks and adding fi verbis, including a sacrifi cefl yagainst No. 11 Texas on April went 6-for-14 in a six-game stretch April and recorded back-to-back multi-hit games as part of a 4-for-6 midweek stretch in two games against Iowa State... added the fi rststolen base of her career on April 19 against the Cyclones... went 0-for-0 but reached base safely in every plate appearance in three games... was hit by two pitches and walked once against Tennessee Tech, was 0-for-0 with three walks against Colorado State and was 0-for-0 with three walks and one hit-by-pitch at No. 4 Oklahoma... in her career, Pascale has drawn 41 walks while striking out only 41 times... finished the season in an 0-for-23 slump, but scored three times and coaxed three walks during that stretch... made only two errors in 249 chances behind the plate. 12 DARCY R U T H E R F O R D 17 MEASURING STICK Games Started Big 12 Commissioner s Fall Honor Roll (2006) Darcy Rutherford saw a dramatic increase in playing time in 2007 and responded with a breakout year that included her fi rstcareer hit, extra-base hit and RBI. Building on her experience from a season ago, Rutherford is expected to contend for a starting job in the outfi eldin 2008, as NU returns four outfi elderswho started at least 23 games a season ago. After starting just one game and recording only three at bats as a freshman, Rutherford started 26 contests and earned 67 at bats in Each of her starts came in either left or right fi eld and Rutherford also appeared in 10 games as a pinch runner. A speedy slap hitter, Rutherford hit.254 last season but led the Huskers with a.375 on-base percentage while ranking second on the team with eight stolen bases. Rutherford s speed and propensity to get on base make her an ideal candidate to fi llthe all-important leadoff role in the Huskers batting order, an area where NU struggled to fi ndconsistency last season. Despite appearing in 25 games as a freshman in 2006, Rutherford was just 0-for-3 at the plate. In her first game of 2007, Rutherford finished 2-for-2 to record her first career hits and ignite a hot start as she went 9-for-17 (.529) over the fi rst six games while recording her first career RBI, extra-base hit, walk and putout. Barrett was again hit by the injury bug in the offseason and underwent surgery, although she is expected to be ready for opening day. Despite battling eye and hand injuries, Barrett started 38 games at second base last season. In 2008, Barrett is a prime candidate to move into the starting shortstop role fi lled by All-Big 12 performer Devin Porter the last four seasons. Barrett s presence would be a huge asset to an NU infi eldfeaturing new, underclassmen starters at second and third. Barrett could also be the Huskers most versatile infi elder,as her great range and footwork, along with a solid arm make her a candidate to play at either middle infi eldposition. Anxiously awaiting the chance to return to full health, Barrett has shown the toughness and resiliency necessary to contribute to the team while playing through pain. That ability could be key for NU in 2008, as Barrett may be called upon to play at less than 100 percent. Barrett batted leadoff in 22 of the Huskers 57 games in 2007, the most of any player on the team. While filling the leadoff role, Barrett became the first freshman to serve as NU s primary leadoff hitter since Jennifer Lizama in Lizama went on to become a three-time All-American. Sophomore l Infielder l 5-4 l Bats/Throws: Right/Right l Wetumpka, Ala. (Wetumpka) For me, this will be an exciting year knowing we have the talent to get to a place we all want to get to. I think that we are as close as a family. Everyone gets along, and things just seem to fall into place when we re on the fi eld. Barrett rebounded from a slow start to her freshman season to finish strong. 16 CRYSTAL G O N Z A L E Z 22 MEASURING STICK Freshmen Stolen Base Totals 5 Gonzalez 4 All 2006 Fr. Crystal Gonzalez showed glimpses of a bright future as a freshman in 2007 before a season-ending knee injury cut her rookie year two months short. Gonzalez worked dilligently to rehabilitate her injury and was nearly back to full strength before re-injuring the knee while back home in California during the semester break. The injury requires a second surgery and Gonzalez will miss the entire 2008 season while rehabbing her knee. Despite the injuries, Gonzalez will still play a signifi cantrole for the Huskers this season. Arguably the team s best defensive outfi elder, Gonzalez will help work with the outfi eldersthroughout the season. She also looks to provide an emotional lift for her teammates, as her enthusiasm, strength and resiliency serve as an inspiration for everyone associated with Nebraska softball. The Huskers hope Gonzalez will return to her pre-injury form in 2009, as the Pomona, Calif., native s career was off to a fast start before the fi rstinjury. Gonzalez earned 23 starts and 30 appearances in 35 games in 2007 before her injury. Sophomore l Outfielder l 5-2 l Bats/Throws: Left/Right l Pomona, Calif. This year we have eight new faces and nine returners who are ready to win some softball games. We are going to be on the attack because we have our eyes on the prize and we want everyone to be a part of it. She hit.214 for the year, but had her average as high.268 in mid-march. With a season of experience under her belt, Hupp is expected to see much more work in the circle, while also battling for a spot in the lineup when she s pitching, or even as the designated player. Offensively, Hupp showed glimpses last season of the power that made her a two-time high school All-American. She finished just one home run shy of the team lead while becoming only the second Husker freshman to hit more than one homer as a rookie in the last seven seasons. Nearly half of Hupp s hits went for extra bases, as she also added four doubles. Hupp showed improvement at the end of last season, recording more than a third of her hits, nearly half of her RBIs and exactly half of her home runs in the last nine games alone. In the circle, Hupp saw action early, tossing a one-hit shutout in her career debut. Hupp s last appearance came on March 10, but with the loss of three-time All-Big 12 performer Ashley DeBuhr, Hupp has the opportunity to step up and contend to be the Huskers top option Sophomore l Right-Handed l Pitcher/Outfielder l 5-6 l Bats/Trows: Bats/Throws: Right/Right Left/Right l Olathe, Kan. Much as she did on offense, Hupp showed glimpses of her potential in the circle. Hupp finished with an ERA below 2.00 and allowed one earned run or less in four of her fi veappearances. In fact, aside from a tough outing at Hawaii, Hupp surrendered only two earned runs in 14.2 innings. As she prepares for an increased workload in 2008, Hupp can build off a solid fall season, when she went 5-0 with four shutouts and a 0.23 ERA for the Huskers. A talented athlete, Hupp has the potential to be a key player for Nebraska in 2008, as she is the only player on the roster that has the opportunity to help NU offensively and in the circle. Nebraska again tapped the junior college ranks this past summer and the staff believes it has found another All-Big 12 performer in Amanda Duran. Duran is set to replace Jamie Waldecker, the Huskers starting catcher the past three seasons. While 2008 will mark her fi rstseason at the Division I level, Duran has all of the credentials of a top catcher. In her two-year career at Pima Community College, Duran became the fi rstjunior college player ever to earn back-to-back selections as the Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year. While her defense is important, the Huskers are hoping Duran will provide an even bigger impact at the plate. Duran was certainly a big bat for Pima, as she was a career.490 hitter with 38 home runs and 176 RBIs in only two seasons. Duran also proved to be a winner, as she played a pivotal role in leading Pima to the national championship in her freshman season. Duran acclimated herself well to her teammates in the fall, as she caught every inning and helped the pitching staff open the exhibition slate with 35.1 straight scoreless innings before finishing with seven shutouts in nine games. Offensively, Duran led the team in multi-rbi contests. World University Games - Team USA [Summer, 2007] Duran was one of 15 players from the NJCAA level chosen by junior college coaches to represent Team USA at the World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand, in August of 2007, just prior to Duran s arrival in Lincoln... helped lead Team USA to a 3-3 record at the event... started all six games, including A two-time NJCAA first-team All-American before arriving in Lincoln, Duran produced 176 RBIs in her two-year career at Pima Community College. Those 176 runs driven in would rank second all-time on the Nebraska career chart and for comparison s sake, the Huskers eight returning hitters in 2008 have a total of 120 RBIs in a combined 12 seasons. This year s Husker team has been rejuvenated with youth and talent. It is going to be an exciting year for the Huskers because we have what it takes mentally and physically to be an extremely competitive team. four at catcher... helped lead the Americans to a 3-1 record in pool play, including victories over Australia, Japan and the Czech Republic... Team USA finished second in Pool B, but fell in a tough opening-round matchup in bracket play to the senior Canadian Olympic Team, led by NU Associate Head Coach Lori Sippel... Japan then avenged an earlier loss to the United States to end Team USA s hopes for a medal. Duran enjoyed a standout two-year stint at Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz., which has produced several Division I stars, including 2007 All-American Ashley Monceaux of Baylor... was a two-time first-team NJCAA All-American for the Aztecs... was also tabbed the NJCAA Division I Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year by the NFCA at the conclusion of her freshman and sophomore seasons... fi rstplayer in the history of the award to win the honor more than once... helped lead Pima to a national championship in her fi rst year... posted impressive numbers during a stellar freshman season... hit.531 with 25 doubles, four triples, 21 home runs, 68 runs scored and 109 RBIs... her 109 RBIs rank as the third-highest single-season total in the recorded history of the NJCAA, which dates back to was just 13 RBIs shy of tying the record, set by Olympic Gold Medalist Crystal Bustos in led the NJCAA ranks in RBIs, while ranking second in home runs and fifth in average... played a key role during Pima s run to the championship, earning a nod on the NJCWS all-tournament team while being described as the Aztec s MVP by head coach Stacy Iveson... hit.500 (8-for-16) with two homers, six runs scored and fi verbis in fi vegames at the World Series... also called every pitch while catching every inning... hit a walk-off two-run home run in the 10th inning of a quarterfi nalgame against Odessa (Texas) to help propel Pima into the fi nals... in the championship game, scored the game-winning run in the Aztecs 4-3 win over Gulf Coast (Fla.)... followed up her outstanding rookie season by leading Pima to a record last season... hit.441 with 16 doubles, 17 home runs and 67 RBIs in ranked seventh in the NJCAA in home runs and 13th in RBIs... finished her outstanding junior college career as a.490 hitter with 38 homers and 176 RBIs... originally signed with Utah, before being released from her letter of intent following the Utes coaching change... chose Nebraska over BYU, California and UNLV... played her high school ball at Salpointe Catholic in Tucson. Her ability to promptly step into a starting role is bolstered by a strong fall and extensive experience gained playing against top competition. Brechtel possesses a quick bat at the plate and above average speed. A terrifi ccontact hitter, she is a tough out with the ability to bat anywhere in the lineup. During the fall, Brechtel started every game and led all Huskers with a total of fi verbis while hitting better than.400. My goal for the team is to make it to the Women s College World Series, but before that we must come together as one strong unit. 6 HEIDI F A natural athlete with a tremendous upside, Heidi Foland is a strong candidate for playing time at shortstop this season. Depending upon her own play and the health of sophomore Whitney Barrett, Foland may be thrust into a starting role as a true freshman. Foland was a three-sport star at Grand Island High School and has made terrifi cstrides in her overall game since focusing solely on softball last fall. Foland started every game at shortstop during the fall season with Barrett out due to injury. She recovered from a slow defensive start to play much better the fi naltwo weeks of the fall while gaining valuable experience. Offensively, Foland hit.420 as a senior for Grand Island. 22 ASHLEY G U I L E Ashley Guile will fi gureprominently into Nebraska s plans this season, as her ability with the bat could earn her a spot in the lineup. Guile is slated to be the Huskers backup catcher, but she is also expected to compete for the starting designated player spot and could even see some time on the infi eld. A two-time high school All-American, Guile adds another impressive lefthanded bat to the NU lineup. Known for hitting the ball hard, Guile is also a solid contact hitter and boasts a confi dent, aggressive approach that is perfectly suited for the middle of the lineup. Freshman l Catcher/Infielder l 5-9 l Bats/Throws: Left/Right l Olathe, Kan. We are excited that the time has fi nallyarrived, as we believe that Ashley will have a dynamic effect on our offense immediately. She also displays a tremendous amount of passion for the game which we feel will have a positive impact in the locker room, in the dugout and on the fi eld. Guile on the 2008 Huskers As a team we are looking for a successful season with a Big 12 title in our hands and a trip to the World Series. My goal for the season is to play for the name on my jersey, do what it takes to make things happen to win, to succeed, to make the team better. ABBY H U G H E S A smooth-fielding speedster from Olathe, Kan., Abby Hughes is a strong candidate to earn the starting job at third base this season. She was solid at third during the fall and her quickness and intelligence for the game are tremendous assets for the physically and mentally demanding position. Offensively, Hughes speed can create plenty of problems for opposing defenders. She is also an aggressive baserunner, as she led Nebraska in steals during the fall. Nebraska has traditionally enjoyed success in signing talented players from the Olathe area and the Huskers hope Hughes can continue that trend... NU has signed three Olathe East players since 2003, although Hughes is the fi rst player from Olathe North... led the Sunfl owerleague with a.552 average and an.879 slugging percentage as a senior, while also leading the league in triples... earned second-team NFCA All-South Central Region honors for her efforts... earned first-team all-state honors from the Kansas Softball Coaches Association in the state s largest class as a junior and senior... was named Olathe North s offensive player of the year in 2005 and was also the defensive player of the year, as well as the team s most valuable player in was a secondteam All-Sunflower League selection in 2004, 2005 and 2006, and earned second-team All-Sun and All-Johnson County accolades in 2004 and 2005, respectively... is a proven winner, as she led North to a regional championship NEBRASKA SOFTBALL MEDIA & RECRUITING GUIDE Freshman l Infielder l 5-2 l Bats/Throws: Right/Right l Olathe, Kan. Abby is the daughter of Eric and Charlene Hughes and was born on Sept. 5, 1988, in Olathe, Kan.... has one sister, Ashley, has not declared a major... favorite food is chicken... best thing about her teammates is how well everyone gets along... the one thing she can t live without is her family. Coach Revelle on Hughes Abby is an athletic and intelligent player who adds a lot of speed and quickness to our roster. Abby has the ability to play several different positions on our team as her athletic versatility is a real strength. Abby had a great fall campaign for the Huskers...look for her to carry that into her game this spring. Hughes on the 2008 Huskers This is going to be an exciting year for the team because there are so many new faces. The team is energetic and very competitive. We have been working hard and are expecting to do very well as a team this season. 12

23 SAMMI L I E G L Freshman Sammi Liegl (pronounced LEGAL) will compete for playing time in a crowded Husker outfi eldthat features four returning players who started at least 23 games last season. While playing time in the outfi eldmay be hard to fi nd,that won t discourage Liegl, who is the epitome of a team player and is dedicated to working hard and helping the team any way she can. One of the fastest players on the team, Liegl is expected to be a key pinch runner for Nebraska this season. Although her at bats may be limited on a deep Husker roster, Liegl showed the ability to produce at the plate, while hitting.448 with 12 extra base hits, 23 runs scored and 26 RBIs in her fi nalyear at Pius X. Liegl attended Pius X as one of two Lincoln natives among the freshman class... was a four-year starter for the Thunderbolts... hit.448 for Pius with seven doubles, three triples, two home runs, 16 stolen bases, 23 runs scored and 26 RBIs as a senior... She is a talented athlete who is embracing the opportunity to learn, develop and grow in our system as she is mentored by a cluster of upperclassmen in the outfi eld.sammi is also primed and focused on using her speed, game smarts and instincts to be an offensive weapon for the Huskers. Liegl on the 2008 Huskers The 2008 season is so exciting because of the people we have coming together. Everyone on the team has a good work ethic and is driven. Combining our talents and strengths, we will have a very successful season. 00 KELLI L I N K E Freshman l Designated Player/Infielder l 5-7 l Bats/Throws: Right/Right l Lincoln, Neb. (Northeast) Kelli Linke (pronounced Link-ee), the younger sister of former Husker Katie Linke, is poised to play her way into the lineup this season. She will most likely see playing time as the designated player or a pinch hitter, but as she displayed in the fall, her work with the bat will make it tough to keep her off the fi eld. In the fall season, Linke led NU in average, extra base hits, slugging percentage and multi-hit games, while finishing third in RBIs. Her play in the fall followed a strong senior season at Lincoln Northeast High School, where she earned All-America honors after hitting.509 with nine homers and 34 RBIs. Linke enjoyed a standout prep career at Lincoln Northeast... is one of two freshman on the 2008 roster from Lincoln... was named a first-team Super State selection by the Lincoln Journal Star as a junior in 2005, when she hit.437 with 59 hits, 35 runs scored, 37 RBIs and 11 doubles... in her senior season at Northeast, Linke led the Heartland Conference with a.509 average, 11 doubles, seven triples, nine home runs, 37 runs scored and 34 RBIs, while earning her second straight first-team Super State selection... was also named a first-team high school All-American by the NFCA following her stellar senior season... joins fellow freshman Ashley Guile as an incoming NFCA high school All-American as NU boasts two freshmen and one sophomore who combined to win a total of fi vehigh school All-America awards... selected to participate in the Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star Game in the summer of helped lead the Red team to a 5-1 victory with an RBI hit... her RBI hit scored fellow freshman Heidi Foland, while Sammi Liegl also added an RBI hit in the game. Through Kelli s drive, determination and focus, we believe she has the ability to impact our team immediately and consistently. Look for Kelli to have an exciting season for the Huskers. Linke on the 2008 Huskers The fans will love watching this team because our energy is a high priority this year and it will be a vibrant place to be. I also think it will be exciting to watch us become a team and enjoy being on the fi eldhaving the fans cheer us on. GO BIG RED NEBRASKA SOFTBALL MEDIA & RECRUITING GUIDE 71

24 TORI T Y S O N Tori Tyson is one of three pitchers on the Huskers 2008 roster and will see time in the circle as a true freshman. The talented Tyson has all of the tools to be a successful pitcher at the Division I level, although her innings may be limited this season with the return of 2007 Big 12 ERA leader Molly Hill. Tyson suffered a broken foot the fi rstweek of fall practice, which caused her to miss valuable practice and game experience, as well as part of the Huskers winter conditioning. Aiding her return is the fact that Tyson faced outstanding competition as a high schooler in talent-rich Southern California. She also benefi tsfrom a great knowledge of the game, as her father, Marty, is a prominent fi gurein the summer ball circuit as head coach of the Corona Angels. Tyson s talent and her desire to get better will put her in a prime position to earn more time in the circle throughout the season, as she fights for the Huskers No. 2 spot with sophomore Alex Hupp. Tyson is the lone pitching prospect in the Huskers freshman class and joins NU with an abundance of competitive experience at both the high school and club level... at Corona High School, earned second-team All-Mountain View league honors as a senior in as a junior, led the league and ranked in the top 25 among inland Southern California schools with a 1.71 ERA... finished that season allowing just 36 earned runs in innings... limited opposing hitters to a meager.218 average while posting 108 strikeouts... contributed as a sophomore to Corona s league championship team... played her club ball for the Corona Angels, the same team as fellow freshman Julie Brechtel and sophomore Freshman l Right-Handed Pitcher l 5-9 l Bats/Throws: Left/Right l Corona, Calif. (Corona) Crystal Gonzalez... with the Angels, Tyson was coached by her father, Marty... was part of the and-under ASA national championship team and recorded three other top-five finishes at nationals. The daughter of Marty and Donna Tyson, Victoria Renee Tyson was born on Sept. 26, 1989, in Blythe, Calif.... has three sisters, Dena (23), Dominique (15) and Dawne (15)... comes from a softball family, as her father coaches the Corona Angels, one of the top travel teams in the nation... her sister Dena played at Washington, earning first-team NFCA All-America honors as a senior in 2007, which included a trip to Bowlin Stadium for the NCAA Regional... Tori lists Dena as her favorite athlete... Tori has not declared a major... credits her father as her biggest infl uence... the one thing she can t live without is her family. Coach Revelle on Tyson Tori brings great gamesmanship and a winning attitude to the fi eldwhen she is in the circle. She is a very talented athlete who is committed to growing and taking her game to the next level. We expect Tori to have a tremendous impact on this program during her career. Tyson on the 2008 Huskers My personal goal is to establish a role on this team and be prepared mentally and physically when my name is called. My goal for the team this season is to leave everything we have out on the fi eldeveryday in practice and in the game. I want everybody to remember the day they played the Huskers in softball. 23 FUTURE H U S K E R S A pair of talented in-state players and the Huskers second-ever recruit from the state of New York signed National Letters-of-Intent to play softball at Nebraska beginning in High school teammates Ashley Hagemann and Nikki Haget will remain teammates at Nebraska next season after leading Elkhorn High School to the past four consecutive Nebraska Class B state championships. The lone out-of-state signee is Kirby Wright, a catcher from Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. All three have been recognized as all-state players, while each is also a proven winner on the prep level. Elkhorn went 30-1 last season and Wright led Hendrick Hudson High School to the best finish in school history with a 27-2 record and a trip to the state semifi nals. The talent and winning attitude of the group has NU Coach Rhonda Revelle excited about the future and optimistic about the newcomers impact on the Huskers 2009 fortunes. We are adding a great group of student-athletes to our Nebraska softball family, Revelle said. They are all motivated and driven to be Huskers and have a long-standing affection for the Big Red. We are sure that when they put on the scarlet and cream for the fi rsttime, it will illicit some pretty awesome emotions. Ashley Hagemann, RHP, Omaha, Neb. (Elkhorn) Hagemann was a three-time fi rst team All-Nebraska selection from the Omaha World- Herald and served as the honorary captain in 2006 and Hagemann also earned three consecutive nods on the Lincoln Journal Star s Super State team, garnering second-team honors as a sophomore in 2005, before earning first-team accolades in 2006 and 2007, getting the nod as honorary captain as a senior. A four-time state champion, Hagemann helped lead Elkhorn High School to a Class B state record 30-1 mark in her senior campaign in the fall of The Class B career strikeout leader, Hagemann went 25-1 with a 0.38 ERA as a senior, while hitting.536 with 10 doubles, six home runs and 37 RBIs. Nikki Haget, INF/OF, Omaha, Neb. (Elkhorn) As a four-year teammate of Hagemann, Haget also played a pivotal role in leading Elkhorn to four consecutive state championships. Haget was named a two-time first-team All-Nebraska selection from the Omaha World-Herald and also earned first-team Super State honors in her fi naltwo seasons from the Lincoln Journal Star. As a senior in 2007, Haget led Class B and ranked second in the state with a whopping.550 average (55-for-100), according to reported statistics from the World-Herald. Her 55 hits also led Class B and ranked second in the state, while Haget also scored a Class B-high 43 runs. She also added fi vedoubles and three triples for the Antlers. Kirby Wright, C, Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. (Hendrick Hudson) Wright is not only just the second Husker recruit from New York in the history of the program, but she is the fi rstin the NCAA era, dating back to Wright, who will complete her prep career at Hendrick Hudson High School this spring, is one of the top catchers in New York, as she earned third-team Class A all-state honors from the New York Sportswriters Association in 2006, while earning a first-team selection to The Journal News All-Star Softball Team. As a junior last season, Wright hit cleanup for Hendrick Hudson, batting.436 (41-for-94) with 12 doubles, two home runs, 38 RBIs and 23 runs scored in only 28 games. Her 38 RBIs were the third most in the area, while her play helped the Sailors win their fi rstclass A section title and advance to the state semifi nals, while finishing with a 27-2 record NEBRASKA SOFTBALL MEDIA & RECRUITING GUIDE
