1 NEBRASKA SOFTBALL NO. 1 IN softball Academic All-Americans NO. 13 IN ncaa tournament WINS No. 10 in World Series Appearances No. 10 in NCAA Tournament appearances SOFTBALL MEDIA RELATIONS CONTACT: MATT SMITH OFFICE PHONE: (402) CELL PHONE: (402) MSMITH@HUSKERS.COM Indiana Hoosiers Record: Ranking: NR/NR Big Ten Record: 5-15 Away Record: 2-14 Huskers Host Indiana to End Regular Season The 19th-ranked Nebraska softball team hopes to start a new winning streak this weekend, when it closes the regular season by hosting the Indiana Hoosiers at Bowlin Stadium. Nebraska saw its 11-game winning streak snapped with a game two loss in Wednesday s doubleheader at Wisconsin. The Huskers outscored their opponents 94-4 during the 11-game winning streak in one of the most dominant stretches in school history. Although the winning streak has ended, Nebraska has a chance to get to 40 wins with a sweep this weekend. A 40-win regular season has been rare in Husker history, as only six times has NU captured 40 wins during a regular season. Since the NCAA put a 56- game limit on the number of regular-season games, only the 2006 Huskers (40-8) have posted a 40-win regular season. A sweep would also clinch the No. 2 seed for next week s Big Ten Tournament, while the Huskers are still alive for at least a share of the Big Ten regular-season title. Nebraska enters play this weekend in second place in the conference standings, two games behind league-leading Michigan. The Huskers could earn an outright conference title with a sweep of Indiana and a Wisconsin sweep at Michigan, and Nebraska could share the conference crown with the Wolverines if NU goes 3-0 this weekend and Michigan goes 1-2. Michigan s magic number to clinch its seventh consecutive Big Ten title is two. The Huskers have nearly secured a first-round bye at next week s conference tournament. Nebraska needs just one win this weekend or one loss by either Wisconsin or Purdue to clinch a bye. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Huskers this weekend in their final home games of the regular season. Nebraska could post the highest single-season attendance average in school history by averaging 1,250 fans for every game this weekend. Baseball fans already at Haymarket Park will receive free admission into all three softball games, and there are several fan-friendly promotions scheduled at Bowlin Stadium this weekend. Fans can play free Husker softball bingo for a chance to win prizes on Friday. Saturday is Bark in the Park day at Bowlin Stadium, where fans can bring their dog to the game (dogs must be licensed, leashed and vaccinated). Saturday is also Youth Day, where kids in the eighth grade and younger will receive free admission when wearing their jersey. On Sunday, Nebraska s senior All-America twins Tatum and Taylor Edwards will be honored following the game as part of Senior Day festivities. In honor of the Edward twins, all twins will receive free admission into Sunday s game. HUSKERS TO WATCH Hailey Decker, So., 2B Hitting in between the Edwards twins has proven productive for Decker, who is batting.408 with seven doubles, six homers and 26 RBIs in her 21 games as the No. 2 hitter. One of the league s top hitters, Decker leads the Big Ten with 17 doubles this season, a Nebraska sophomore record. She also leads the league with 26 extra-base hits. Tatum Edwards, Sr., RHP The Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, Edwards ranks second in the league with eight wins in Big Ten play. Offensively, Edwards is threatening a trio of Big Ten records. She leads the league in home runs (10), RBIs (32) and total bases (61) in conference games, trailing the Big Ten records of 12 homers, 35 RBIs and 69 total bases. 5 NEBRASKA SOFTBALL TOP 10 IN NCAA HISTORY IN POSTSEASON & WORLD SERIES APPEARANCES A Look Back at Nebraska s 11-Game Win Streak Nebraska is playing its best softball of the season of late, highlighted by the Huskers 11-game winning streak that was snapped with a loss at Wisconsin in game two of Wednesday s doubleheader. Nebraska outscored its opponent 94-4 during the winning streak. The streak was Nebraska s longest winning streak since 2007 and marked the 17th double-digit win streak in school history. Offensively, Nebraska s 94 runs in the 11-game win streak marked the second-most runs the Huskers had ever scored in an 11-game stretch, trailing the 95 runs the 2011 team scored from March 12 to March 22. In the circle, Nebraska tossed eight shutouts during the 11-game winning streak, including each of the final six games. Ten of the 11 victories during the winning streak came against Big Ten opponents, as Nebraska also put together a 12-game conference win streak. That streak ranked as the second-longest conference win streak in school history and the longest since the 2004 squad won 12 straight Big 12 games. nebraska s offensive production in its winning streak CATEGORY AVG AB R H 2B HR RBI SLG% BB HBP SO OB% 11-Game Win Streak nebraska s pitching production in its winning streak CATEGORY W-L ERA CG SHO SV IP H R ER BB SO Opp. Avg. 11-Game Win Streak Tatum Edwards Nearing Big Ten Records Senior Tatum Edwards has a chance to make Big Ten history this weekend in the final regular-season games of her career. Tatum has been a terror for opposing pitchers in conference play, as she owns a.400 average with five doubles, 10 homers and 32 RBIs in only 20 Big Ten games. Edwards enters this weekend with a chance to tie or break the Big Ten record for most home runs and RBIs in a conference season. Edwards 10 home runs in league play are two shy of the Big Ten record of 12, set by Michigan s Sierra Romero last season. Romero was a teammate of Edwards at Vista Murrieta High School. Edwards has already joined Romero and Indiana s Monica Armendarez (1998) as the only players in Big Ten history to produce double-digit home runs during a conference season. The slam was the 5 home run of her career, leaving her one shy of tying Ali Viola s school record of 53 career home runs. Edwards also owns 198 RBIs, as she is two shy of becoming the sixth player in Big Ten history to produce 200 career RBIs. Edwards is 15 shy of Viola s school record of 213 career RBIs. Lockman Riding Four-Game Shutout Streak Sophomore Emily Lockman has been dominant in the circle over the past few weeks. Lockman has tossed a career-best four consecutive shutouts. She brings a 25.1-inning scoreless streak into this weekend s series. The last run she allowed was a solo home run to Iowa in the fourth inning of an April 11 victory, the only hit she surrendered in a complete-game victory. Since that homer, Lockman has not only not allowed another run, she has not allowed an opposing base runner to reach third base. Opponents are hitting a paltry.153 (13-for-85) against Lockman during her scoreless innings streak and all 13 hits have been singles. Lockman played a large role in Nebraska s 11-game winning streak that ended with her shutout victory on Wednesday. Lockman went 6-0 during the winning streak, posting four shutouts and a 0.25 ERA, allowing only one run in her 33.0 innings during the streak. In addition to contributing to the Huskers 11-game win streak, Lockman owns a personal eight-game winning streak. She has not lost since her worst statistical outing this spring against No. 16 Minnesota on March 23. Her win streak began with a victory at No. 23 Northwestern on March 30 and since then, Lockman is 8-0 with a 0.73 ERA in 48.0 innings. Husker Offense Threatening Several School Records Fueled by an outstanding month of April, the Husker offense is set to challenge several team season records. Currently, the Huskers own the best slugging percentage (.494) and on-base percentage (.397) in school history. Nebraska also boasts the second-most extra-base hits (138) in school history, the third-best batting average (.303), the fourth-most home runs (57) and the fifth-most runs (296), doubles (74) and hit-by-pitches (43). With four more runs, the Huskers would become just the fifth team in school history to score 300 runs and just the third to reach the mark in the regular season (first since 1996). Nebraska is also just five homers away from breaking the record of 62 home runs set in NU is averaging 1.6 home runs per game in league play. Big ten Conference Standings (may 1) Rk. She is one of only 11 players in school history to produce 100 career runs, hits and RBIs and one of only two Huskers to total 150 career runs, hits and RBIs. Edwards is also one of only two Huskers and 12 players in Big Ten history produce 40 career home runs and 40 career doubles. Also one of only two players in school history with two 50-RBI seasons, Edwards is one of three Huskers to produce three seasons with 10-or-more home runs after reaching that mark this season. Edwards is also the only Husker to post four 30-walk seasons and just the second to record four 30-RBI seasons. Armstrong doubled in each of her final three at bats against the Fighting Illini, becoming the third Husker to hit three doubles in a game. The other two Huskers to accomplish that feat are Kim Ogee (vs. Texas Tech on April 13, 2003) and Jamie Fuente (vs. Syracuse, March 15, 2001). The three doubles also tied the NCAA record, shared by many other players, including a pair of hitters who accomplished the feat in Decker Producing Impressive Totals Sophomore Hailey Decker is Nebraska s leader in doubles (17), extra-base hits (26), multi-hit games (18) and multi-rbi games (12), and she ranks second with 43 RBIs. Decker has exceeded her freshman total in each of those categories, an impressive accomplishment considering her 2013 marks ranked among the best freshman totals in school history. Decker ranked third on NU s all-time freshman chart with 13 doubles last spring and was eighth with six homers and 29 RBIs. This season, Decker has exceeded her doubles total by four while hitting three more home runs and producing 14 more RBIs than she did a year ago. It took Decker 42 games this spring to better her 2013 doubles total and only 38 games to surpass her home run, extra-base hit and RBI totals from her freshman season. Decker s 17 doubles, the most ever by a Husker sophomore, lead the Big Ten and rank eighth nationally. Decker is also leads the conference with 26 extra-base hits this season. By hitting her 30th double, Edwards became the sixth Husker to produce 30 career doubles and 30 career home runs. By scoring her 100th run, Edwards became the 11th Husker to produce 100 career hits, RBIs and runs. Tatum joined her twin sister Taylor as a member of both exclusive clubs. Urness Ties Freshman Record Freshman Austen Urness has been hit by nine pitches this spring. Only halfway through her freshman season, Urness has already been plunked nine times, tying for the most hit-by-pitches by a freshman in school history. Julie Brechtel was also hit by nine pitchers during her freshman season in Urness would own the record by herself the next time she is hit by a pitch, while also becoming only the fifth Husker to be plunked 10 times in a season. Urness was on pace to challenge the overall school record of 16 hit-by-pitches before suffering a concussion at Kansas on March 15. Urness missed 16 straight games with the concussion, but she made her return on April 12 against Iowa, delivering a pinch-hit, two-run single in her home debut. She earned her first start since the injury in game two of an April 19 doubleheader with Ohio State. Taylor Edwards Posts 25-Game Hitting Streak Senior Taylor Edwards saw her career-long hitting streak end at 25 games, when she went 0-for-2 against Fresno State on March 9. Edwards streak ended just one game shy of tying Anne Steffan s school record. Edwards streak began in game three of the 2013 NCAA Super Regional at No. 3 Oregon. Her final game of the streak was against No. 6 Washington on March 9, when she produced a pair of hits, including a walk-off, two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. The award honors the attributes of senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition. Taylor Edwards & Fowler Named Husker Co-Captains Senior Taylor Edwards and junior Mattie Fowler serve as Nebraska s 2014 co-captains. Fowler is a co-captain for the second straight season, while Edwards is a captain for the first time in her career. Edwards is a four-year starter at catcher, where she was a 2011 third-team All-American. Fowler was in her third season as a starter and her second year as Nebraska s starting first baseman before suffering a season-ending injury Feb. 21. Revelle Wins 800th Game at Nebraska, Joins Elite group Nebraska Head Coach Rhonda Revelle opened her 2 season at Nebraska with a 7-0 victory over UTEP on Feb. 7. The win marked Revelle s 800th victory at Nebraska, as she became the first coach in any sport to win 800 games as a Husker. The victory also put Revelle in elite company among her softball peers, as she became the 15th active coach with 800 victories at his or her current school. Revelle is Nebraska s All-Time Coaching Wins Leader Nebraska s 10-5 victory at Oklahoma State on March 3, 2013, was a historic one, as it made Rhonda Revelle Nebraska s all-time wins leader across all sports. The victory was Revelle s 768th at Nebraska, as she passed former baseball coach John Sanders, who won 767 games from 1978 to Revelle picked up her 800th career victory at Penn State on May 4, 2013, and won her 800th game at NU in the 2014 season opener against UTEP. big ten team rankings (4/30) offensive (all games) Home Runs Walks Total Bases RBIs Hits Runs Scored Batting Average Doubles Slugging Percentage On-Base Percentage Hit by Pitch Strikeouts Stolen Bases Triples defensive (all games) Caught Stealing Opponent Average Stolen Bases Against Home Runs Allowed Wins ERA Innings Pitched Runs Allowed Earned Runs Allowed Fielding Percentage Saves Hits Allowed Doubles Allowed Strikeouts Double Plays Errors Triples Allowed Walks Allowed Hit Batters 13 t- 8th t-9th t- 4th 4th 4th 5th t-6th t-6th 10th 12th big ten individual rankings (4/30) alicia armstrong (all games) Triples t-4th tatum edwards (all games) Innings Pitched Starts Home Runs Wins Saves Strikeouts Opponent Average ERA RBIs taylor edwards (all games) Home Runs Hit by Pitch Total Bases Runs Scored Slugging Percentage On-Base Percentage Walks hailey decker (all games) Doubles Total Bases emily lockman (all games) ERA kiki stokes (all games) Triples t- t- t- t- 4th 5th 5th t- 4th t-4th

One of 13 returning All- America pitchers in 2014, Edwards posted a record with a 1.91 ERA in 2013, when she became NU s first All-America pitcher in nine seasons. Edwards ranked 11th nationally in shutouts (10) last spring, 12th in victories, 30th in hits allowed per seven innings (4.9) and 40th in strikeouts (229). Her 30 wins ranked fourth in Husker history, and Edwards also ranked seventh in shutouts and complete games (30) and eighth in innings pitched. Edwards is NU s first returning All-America pitcher since Leigh Ann Walker in Edwards is looking to join her pitching coach Lori Sippel as the only Husker pitchers to be two-time All-Americans. Sippel earned secondteam honors in both 1986 and Edwards owns a career record with a 2.08 ERA. One of 50 players nationally named to the 2014 USA Softball Player-of-the-Year Watch List, Edwards ranks seventh in school history with a.722 career winning percentage. The 2013 Big Ten Pitcher of the Year is one why shy of posting her second straight 20-win season. Tatum Edwards Named to USA Softball Player-of-the-Year Watch List Senior Tatum Edwards was one of 50 players nationally and five Big Ten players named to the 2014 USA Softball Collegiate Player-of-the-Year watch list. She is the first Husker to earn a spot on the list since her twin sister Taylor was named to the 2012 watch list, one season after being one of 25 finalists for the award. Huskers Feature Talented 2014 Roster Talented can certainly describe a 2014 Husker roster that includes six players who have been either high school or collegiate All-Americans. The Huskers are one of only seven teams nationally to feature multiple Division I All-Americans on their 2014 roster. Senior twins Tatum and Taylor Edwards are NU s returning All-Americans, as Tatum was a 2013 second-team utility/ pitcher selection, while Taylor was a third-team All-America catcher in To gauge the Huskers individual talent, consider this: Nebraska is one of only 12 teams nationally with a returning All-America pitcher; the Huskers are one of four teams nationally with both a returning All-America hitter and pitcher; NU is one of seven teams nationally whose batting lineup features a pair of All-Americans. Each of the four teams with a returning All-America pitcher and hitter (Arizona State, Florida, Nebraska and Tennessee) made the 2013 Women s College World Series. Nebraska and Arizona State also own the distinction of being the nation s only two teams with an All-America pitcher and catcher. This spring marks the first time NU has opened a season with multiple All-Americans on its roster since 1999, with infielder Jennifer Lizama (1997 second team) and pitcher Jenny Voss (1998 first team). Nebraska also returns a pair of first-team all-region pitchers in Tatum Edwards and sophomore Emily Lockman. Lockman was one of only two freshmen pitchers nationally to be a first-team all-region selection in 2013, while Nebraska and Florida are the only two schools in the country to bring back a pair of first-team all-region pitchers from Both Edwards twins and Lockman were also All-Big Ten selections last spring. Sophomore Alicia Armstrong, a 2013 second-team All-Big Ten honoree, gives Nebraska four returning all-conference players in Junior Mattie Fowler, sophomore Kiki Stokes and freshman MJ Knighten add to the talented roster, as each claimed All- America honors in high school. Lockman and Taylor Edwards were also high school All-Americans. Huskers boast one of nation s top pitching staffs Nebraska s pitching staff ranked 15th nationally with a Big Ten-best 1.85 ERA in The staff, which also helped NU rank 12th nationally in wins last spring, returned intact for the 2014 season. The returning production has helped the Huskers post a 2.00 ERA this spring against the nation s 17th-most difficult schedule, according to the NCAA RPI. Sophomore right-hander Emily Lockman is 18-4 in 2014 with a 1.97 ERA and has posted seven shutouts after being named a first-team all-region selection and a second-team All-Big Ten pick in Sophomore Danica Bishop is also back after posting a team-low 1.75 ERA in limited action during the 2013 season. kiki stokes (conference games only) Stolen Bases t-
