The Huskers begin Big Ten play by facing the conference s top team, as Minnesota (25-2) owns the most wins (25), best winning percentage (.926) and highest ranking (No. 8) of any Big Ten team. The Golden Gophers have also been Nebraska s Big Ten nemesis. Since the Huskers joined the conference in 2012, Minnesota is the only team with a winning record against Nebraska in Big Ten play (8-5). Nebraska will be playing its sixth game and fourth opponent in seven days on Friday, while Minnesota will be playing its first game in a week. According to Monday s NCAA statistics, Nebraska has played the most difficult schedule in the nation with an opponent winning percentage of.689. Including this weekend s series with No. 8 Minnesota, Nebraska will have played 18 of its 28 games against teams who have been ranked in the NFCA top 25 at some point this season. Friday will feature $1 hot dogs and Pepsi products (first 300 fans) and Saturday will feature $1 GA tickets and a water bottle giveaway (first 250 fans). The Huskers are 4-0 at home this season and have won nine of their last 10 home games overall. Nebraska has lost its Big Ten Conference opener only once - at home to Minnesota in TWO HUSKERS TO WATCH MJ Knighten, the reigning Big Ten co-player of the Week, has produced multiple hits in five straight games, going 13-for-20 (.650) in that stretch with three doubles and two home runs. THIS WEEK S TOP 10 Record: 8-17 Ranking: NR/NR Big Ten: 0-0 Home Record: 4-0 vs. Minnesota: Following this weekend s three-game series, Nebraska will have played 15 of its first 28 games against ranked opponents, not including games against BYU, Cal and Arkansas, all of whom moved into the top 25 after playing the Huskers. Nebraska has played the nation s toughest schedule based on opponent winning percentage, and the Huskers drew a tough start to their Big Ten schedule by facing No. 8 Minnesota and No. 22 Wisconsin in their first six conference games. Nebraska has finished fifth or better in all five of its Big Ten seasons, including a shared title in 2014, a runner-up finish in 2013 and third-place finishes in 2012 and The Huskers are (.690) in Big Ten play, trailing only Michigan and Minnesota for most wins and best winning percentage since NU entered the league in The Huskers have used a different batting lineup in all 25 games this season, and Nebraska has duplicated its starting lineup only once. NU s victory over UNO on Wednesday marked the highest-scoring game at Bowlin Stadium. MJ Knighten went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs in her 200th career start on Wednesday. Nebraska s Cassie McClure and Minnesota s Sara Groenewegen are two of only five active Division I pitchers who have been a three-time all-region selection. Alyvia Simmons has reached base safely in a career-high 11 consecutive games, the longest streak by a Husker this season. Alexis Perry had four hits vs. UNO on Wednesday. Nebraska s captains this spring are seniors MJ Knighten and Lotte Sjulin and junior Madi Unzicker. Junior Madi Unzicker is serving as team captain, but she will miss the 2017 season after undergoing season-ending knee surgery last fall. Nebraska s 2017 roster consists of 21 players, which ties for the largest roster in school history (also 1992). The Husker roster features eight Nebraska natives, tying for the program s most in-state players since softball became an NCAA sport in The roster features seven freshmen, tied for the most in Rhonda Revelle s 25 seasons. The last time Revelle had seven freshmen was in 2013, when the Huskers made their last trip to the Women s College World Series. Four Huskers were named their state s high school player of the year: freshman Haley Donaldson (Colorado); juniors Kaylan Jablonski and Madi Unzicker (Nebraska); and senior Cassie McClure (Texas). Rhonda Revelle is in her 25th season leading her alma mater in Revelle is the second-longest serving female head coach in the history of Nebraska Athletics. Revelle owns 921 wins at NU. Counting their time as both a player and coach, Revelle and Sippel have been a part of 1,228 of Nebraska s 1,402 all-time victories (87 percent). Assistant coach Diane Miller rounds out the Husker coaching staff. In her ninth season, Miller has helped Nebraska s offense set more than 35 school records. Fourteen of Nebraska s 28 opponents made the 2016 NCAA Tournament, and 23 of the Huskers 52 games come against 2016 postseason teams (44 percent). NU will also play 41 of its 52 games against teams from a Power Five conference (79 percent). 5 5 NEBRASKA VS. RANKED TEAMS Nebraska is 1-11 against ranked opponents this season, having played nearly half of its 25 games against teams who were ranked in the NFCA top-25 poll at game time. Sixteen of Nebraska s 25 games have come against teams either ranked or receiving votes in this week s NFCA poll, the highest total of any team in the country. Following this weekend s three-game series with No. 8 Minnesota, Nebraska will have played 15 of its first 28 games against ranked teams, with a total of 19 games against teams ranked or receiving votes at game time. NU HAS FACED TOUGHEST SCHEDULE Considering Nebraska has faced more ranked teams than any other team in the country, it should come as no surprise that the Huskers overall schedule ranks as the toughest in the nation. According to Monday s NCAA Toughest Schedule rankings, Nebraska has played the nation s toughest schedule based on opponent s winning percentage. MOST DIFFICULT SCHEDULES BASED ON OPPONENT WIN PCT. Nine of Nebraska s 12 games in the month of February came against teams ranked at game time, including four games against top-three opponents. Eleven of the Huskers 12 February games came against teams that earned a ranking during the season s opening month, as both BYU and Cal moved into the top 25 the week after playing Nebraska. All 12 of Nebraska s games in the month of February came against teams who were either ranked or receiving votes in the top 25.
