The Huskers and Fighting Illini will play single games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Fans can also watch all three games this weekend by subscribing to Illinois live video service. Nebraska takes an 18-9 record into Big Ten play, while Illinois is On paper, the Husker-Fighting Illini matchup is the best of the seven Big Ten series this weekend, as Nebraska and Illinois 37 combined wins and.672 combined winning percentage are the highest combined totals of any Big Ten series. Nebraska owns an 18-9 record this season while facing the nation s 12th-toughest schedule. The Huskers have used 27 different starting lineups (P, C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, CF, RF, DP) this season and 27 different batting orders, never duplicating a starting lineup or batting order. Nebraska owns a record in conference openers, including a 3-1 mark in Big Ten openers. After playing seven of its last 18 games against ranked opponents, the Huskers will play each of their next 10 games against unranked opponents. NU has posted 2-1 series victories in each of its two trips to Illinois in 2013 and Nebraska has been a road warrior for the past three Big Ten seasons, winning 10 consecutive Big Ten weekend road series. NU s last road series loss came in a three-game sweep at Indiana in the final road series of the 2012 season. The Huskers are 25-9 in Big Ten road games the past three seasons. The Huskers have finished in the top three in the final Big Ten standings in each of their first four seasons in the conference. Nebraska has posted a record in Big Ten play, ranking second in the league in wins and winning percentage (.714) during NU s time as a Big Ten Conference member. Nebraska has not lost a Big Ten Conference road series in the last three seasons. The returning all-region players include two-time honorees Emily Lockman and Cassie McClure and 2015 selections MJ Knighten and Kiki Stokes. Five Huskers are returning all-conference selections, which ties for the second-most returning allconference players in school history. The returning all-conference players include threetime All-Big Ten selection Emily Lockman, two-time honorees Alicia Armstrong and MJ Knighten, 2015 All-Big Ten pick Kiki Stokes and Cassie McClure, a 2014 All-Big 12 selection at Texas Tech. Nebraska s captains this spring are seniors Alicia Armstrong, Mattie Fowler and Kiki Stokes. The trio are serving as captains for the second straight season. Fowler has served as a team captain each of the last four seasons, becoming the first four-time captain in school history. Nebraska s 2016 roster consists of 19 players, which ties for the third-largest roster in school history. Sixteen of Nebraska s 19 players are returners. The Huskers 16 returning players are tied for the most returners under Rhonda Revelle (1993-present). Despite featuring the highest number of returning players under Revelle, NU still features a youthful roster in Ten of the Huskers 19 players are freshmen or sophomores. Nebraska features five pitchers on its roster, marking the first time since 1997 that NU has had a fivepitcher rotation. The Husker roster features eight Nebraska natives, tying for the program s most in-state players since softball became an NCAA sport in Six Huskers were named their state s high school player of the year, representing four states. The Huskers who earned state high school player-ofthe-year honors include: Alicia Armstrong (Nebraska); Mattie Fowler (Arizona); Kaylan Jablonski (Nebraska); Emily Lockman (California); Cassie McClure (Texas); and Madi Unzicker (Nebraska). Three of Nebraska s five pitchers were honored as their state s player of the year, including Jablonski (Nebraska), Lockman (California) and McClure (Texas). Rhonda Revelle is in her 24th season leading her alma mater in Revelle is the longest serving female head coach in the history of Nebraska Athletics. Revelle owns 894 wins at NU. She is the all-time wins leader (male or female) in Nebraska Athletics history. Associate Head Coach Lori Sippel is in her 27th year at Nebraska. Sippel is the longest-tenured female assistant coach in the history of Nebraska Athletics. Revelle ( ) and Sippel ( ) also played for Nebraska. Counting their time as both a player and coach, Revelle and Sippel have been a part of 1,200 of Nebraska s 1,377 all-time victories (87 percent). Assistant coach Diane Miller rounds out the Husker coaching staff. In her eighth season, Miller has helped Nebraska s offense set more than 30 school records. Revelle, Sippel and Miller were named the Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year in 2013 and Nebraska is scheduled to play 40 percent of its schedule against teams that made the 2015 NCAA Tournament (21 of 53 games). Of those 21 games, only three are in Lincoln, with nine on the road and nine at a neutral site. 3 3 LEADING OFF... Nebraska came in at No. 22 in the first NCAA RPI ranking of the season, released on Monday. The Huskers have played the nation s 12th toughest schedule according to the NCAA RPI. The opponent has scored first in 19 of Nebraska s 27 games this season, including 12 of the last 15 games and 18 of the last 23 games. Nebraska was 6-0 this season when scoring first before losing both games last weekend when scoring first. NU was 8-0 when scoring in the first inning before losing both times last weekend when it scored in the first. NU is 17-2 when holding the opponent five runs or less. The Huskers have hit multiple home runs in 14 of their 27 games this season (12-2 record). Nebraska is 15-2 this season when committing one or no errors and 3-7 when committing two or more errors. Nebraska has committed multiple errors in six of its last nine games, including five games with three errors. In the first 18 games, the Huskers had only four games with multiple errors and no games with three errors. The Huskers have drawn 52 walks in their last eight games (6.5 per game). In the first 19 games, Nebraska totaled only 33 walks (1.7 per game). HUSKER QUICK HITTERS Eighteen of Alicia Armstrong s 29 RBIs this season have come with two outs. Laura Barrow went 8-for-16 (.500) in five games at the Easton Tournament last weekend with two doubles and four RBIs. In her first 18 games, Barrow was 11-for-54 (.204) with one double and four RBIs. Barrow has four multi-hit efforts in her last five games after having two multi-hit games through the first 18 games of the season. Caitlin Bartsch threw a career-high 4.1 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief vs. DePaul in NU s last game. Senior Mattie Fowler owns a six-game hitting streak, batting.529 (9-for-17) during the streak with two homers, five walks and seven RBIs. Fowler has produced multiple hits in three straight games. Taylor Kadavy made her collegiate debut last Saturday, allowing one run in 3.2 innings against Arkansas. She became the first left-hander to pitch for NU since MJ Knighten ranks second nationally with 15 home runs. She is already tied for sixth on Nebraska s season home run chart, one shy of the most by a Husker junior. Due to her power, Knighten has seen fewer pitches to hit recently. She has drawn a walk in eight straight games, totaling 13 walks and two hit-by-pitches in that stretch. Knighten has produced either multiple hits, multiple RBIs or both in 19 of 27 games this season. She owns eight games with both multiple hits and multiple RBIs. NEBRASKA NOTES Knighten is hitting.429 and has had a season batting average above.400 at the end of 60 consecutive games dating back to March 21, Knighten has started 147 consecutive games. She is the only Husker with more than 11 straight starts. Junior Cassie McClure earned her 10th victory in Nebraska s last game. The 10 wins are a career high for McClure, and she entered the week as one of 65 Division I pitchers with a double-digit win total. Senior Kiki Stokes is one of only eight active players nationally who has totaled 150 career hits, 150 runs and 50 stolen bases. Last weekend, Stokes became the sixth Husker to draw 100 career walks. She is one of 27 active Division I players who has walked 10 0 times. HUSKERS OFF TO SOLID START Nebraska is 18-9 against a schedule that has included 12 games against 2015 NCAA Tournament teams, seven contests against ranked opponents and five games against top-10 teams. Nebraska is 18-9 through 27 games this season. At this point last year, the Huskers were NU has finished with at least a.500 record every week, including winning records in four of the first six weeks. The Huskers went 10-3 in February, becoming the fifth Nebraska team to post double-digit wins in February. NU matched the best 10-game start in school history (9-1). DON T COUNT OUT THE HUSKERS Nebraska has shown an uncanny ability to come from behind this season, rallying from a deficit in 12 of its 18 wins, including two seventh-inning comebacks. Nebraska is 4-6 when trailing after five innings and 2-7 when trailing after six innings. In 2015, the Huskers were 1-17 when trailing after five innings and 0-17 when trailing after six innings. NU is 4-3 in one-run games this season after going 1-6 in one-run games last year. The Huskers have rallied from a seventh-inning deficit to take the lead four times, winning three of those games. The Huskers have scored 25 runs in the seventh inning, their second-highest total of any inning. NU has produced the winning run in the sixth inning or later in eight of its 18 victories. OMAHA Seniors Alicia Armstrong and Kiki Stokes each tied school records in Nebraska s 12-8 win over Omaha last Wednesday at Bowlin Stadium. Armstrong had eight RBIs in the win - including her first career grand slam - to tie Nebraska s game RBI record. Stokes tied the school record with a career-high four runs scored, marking the 14th time a Husker has scored four runs in a game. HOMERING HUSKERS Nebraska has hit 38 homers in only 27 games this season. NU leads the Big Ten and ranks sixth nationally in home runs and seventh in home runs per game. The 38 home runs already rank 14th in school history. Forty-eight percent of Nebraska s total runs this season have scored on a home run (73 of 151). Nebraska is on pace to hit 75 home runs in its 53 scheduled regular-season games. The school record for home runs in a season is 73 in 2014 (62 games). HIGHEST HOME RUN TOTALS AFTER 25 GAMES Year Home Runs PITCHING MUCH IMPROVED FROM 2015 Nebraska s pitching staff has shown much improvement from last year, a big reason for the Huskers strong start. Nebraska s ERA is 1.72 lower through 27 games this season than it was at this point last season (5.44). Cassie McClure is 10-4 with a 2.79 ERA after owning a 7-2 record with a 3.76 ERA at this point last season. McClure has allowed one earned run or less in 17 of her 22 appearances, including seven scoreless outings. McClure is 6-2 as a reliever with four saves and a 1.73 ERA. Emily Lockman is 6-2 with a 3.02 ERA after owning an 8-7 record with a 5.76 ERA at this point last year. Lockman has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of her 14 appearances this season and has allowed two earned runs or less eight times. For her efforts, McClure earned the first Big Ten Pitcher-ofthe-Week honor of the 2016 season. McClure finished with 16 strikeouts and only one walk, while limiting opposing hitters to a.122 average. In her lone start against Green Bay, McClure tossed a one-hit shutout, the first shutout of her career. She also added a career-high 10 strikeouts. STOKES SEEKS SECOND ALL-AMERICA HONOR Kiki Stokes looks to repeat as an All-American in 2016 after earning third-team All-America accolades in Stokes was one of 50 players nationally named to the 2016 USA Softball Player-of-the-Year watch list. Stokes joined 2002 All-American Kim Ogee as the only Husker outfielders to be named an All-American. Stokes looks to become the ninth Husker to earn multiple All-America accolades and the third in four years. After being the lone freshman position player to earn All-Big Ten honors in 2014, Knighten was one of only six unanimous All-Big Ten selections in 2015, and she was also a first-team NFCA All-Midwest Region honoree. Knighten posted the fifth-highest batting average in Nebraska history last season (.412), while ranking fourth in hits (82) and RBIs (60) and eighth in runs (53). Knighten was one of only 17 players nationally to post a.400 batting average and total 60 RBIs in Knighten was the third-fastest Husker to total 100 hits, reaching the milestone in her 92nd career game. In her second season, Lockman became the only Nebraska pitcher to earn first-team all-region accolades as both a freshman and sophomore.
