Three freshmen join the team in 2019, including Karlee Seevers, Courtney Wallace and Lindsey Walljasper. Nebraska is hopeful that the trio will see significant playing time and help the team this season. CATCHERS One of Nebraska s most experienced positions is at catcher. Senior Bri Cassidy returns after starting 114 games at the position the last three seasons, including 48 in BRI CASSIDY Cassidy is backed up by sophomore Ally Riley who made six starts behind the plate last season as a freshman. Mikaela Forcum and Anni Raley are freshmen catchers on the roster who could also fill in as needed in INFIELD Nebraska lost its starting second baseman in Laura Barrow, but returns Madi Unzicker, Tristen Edwards, Lexey Kneib and Sarah Yocom this season, who all saw action in the infield last season. Unzicker and Edwards started every game at first and shortstop, respectively, and are the favorites to start at those positions again this year. Second and third base will likely be filled by Kneib, Yocom and freshman Courtney Wallace. Pacific transfer Samantha Owen and freshmen Payton Huscroft and Carson Fischer could also help in the infield this season. OUTFIELD Nebraska lost two of its three regular outfielders from last season in Gina Metzler and Taylor Otte. Metzler started all but one game in the outfield for Nebraska, while Otte started all but four games in the outfield last season. However, the Huskers return two-time All- Big Ten pick and two-time All-Midwest region honoree Alyvia Simmons. Simmons started 52 games in right field last year and is the likely starter in that position again this year. Center field and left field will likely be filled by Bree Boruff and Rylie Unzicker. Both played last season, however Uznicker was the only one to start in the outfield last season. Freshmen Peyton Glatter and Anni Raley could also see some time in the outfield as well for the Huskers. HITTERS Nebraska returns its top two hitters in Alyvia Simmons and Tristen Edwards this season, but will have to replace Kaylan Jablonski in the lineup. Ally Riley provided a nice spark to the Husker offense last season, batting.317. Pitcher Olivia Ferrell also was productive at the plate. She went 7-for-21 (.333), but is not expected to be a regular hitter this spring. However, Nebraska will need some other returners to step up in 2019 to help the offense. This could include Madi Unzicker, Sarah Yocom, Lexey Kneib, Bri Cassidy, Rylie Unzicker and Bree Boruff, who all made plate appearances in The Huskers also expect some newcomers to help the offense, including Samantha Owen, Courtney Wallace and Lindsey Walljasper.
