2 Palos Verdes Little League Team Snack Shack Liaison/Scheduler Thank you for volunteering to schedule your team in the Valmonte or Malaga Cove (Minors/Inters only) Snack Shack. In addition to fun times and great food, the Snack Shacks provide a valuable source of revenue for PVLL. This revenue supports upkeep and improvements to our fields and facilities at Valmonte and Malaga Cove. Each team is assigned a week to cover the Valmonte snack shack in partnership with another team in the league. Minor & Inter teams will cover shifts at the Malaga Cove snack shack during games when they are designated the HOME team. The balance of the two-shift requirement for Minor/Inter families must be fulfilled at the Valmonte snack shack. Following are the duties of the Snack Shack Liaison: You will receive an electronic (Excel) copy of the schedule for your team s week in the Snack Shack once game schedules have been finalized. You are responsible for scheduling parents in the available shifts. Please complete schedules as soon as possible and send back to us. I recommend asking each family for several shift options and fill on a first come basis. Shifts are available Monday-Saturday. Weekday shifts start at 4:30 and end between 7 & 7:30. Saturday shifts are available throughout the day in 3 ½ hour shifts. We need volunteers that can grill, so please indicate their willingness on the schedule sheet. Please send us both first and last names of the volunteer. If a volunteer needs to reschedule their shift (once submitted to us) please try to trade within your team and let us know the change. DO NOT have your parent contact us directly to reschedule. This creates a lot of confusion. If you cannot find a trade, the let us know and we will try to send some alternate options. If a volunteer is ill on their scheduled day, they need to contact us immediately and reschedule their shift. All shifts must be filled by an adult family member, 18 years and older. The $200 deposit check collected by your team's uniform coordinator for each player is a Snack Shack deposit. Families that do not fulfill the two-shift Snack Shack volunteer requirement for each player will forfeit this deposit (PVLL will cash the check). Some families may choose to forfeit the deposit and not fill the shifts. Please indicate the families from your team intending to forfeit. T-Ball, Farm, Inter, and Major divisions: Each family is required to work two shifts per registered child at the Valmonte Snack Shack. (Inter teams are also responsible for covering their HOME games at MC and these shifts will count toward fulfilling the requirement) Minors & Inter Division: Each family is required to work two shifts per registered child. Teams are responsible for covering their Home games at the Malaga Cove Snack Shack. Additional shifts will be available at the Valmonte Snack Shack throughout the season so that families in these divisions can fulfill the required two shifts. Please promote coupon sales. The Snack Shacks sell booklets of 12 coupons each that can be used for after game snacks (an easy and fun alternative if your team has snack volunteers for each game). Booklets can be purchased for $18.00 (12 coupons at $1.50 each). These coupons are used like cash and allow the player to pick out his/her own treats. Thank you and have a great season! 3 2018 PVLL Scorekeeping Clinic Majors, Intermediates and Minors Thank you for volunteering for the scorekeeper position for your PVLL team. If you are new to scorekeeping don t worry. It is fun, easy to learn, and can give you a deeper understanding of the game. Responsibilities for the scorekeeper(s) for each team include: Attendance at the Scorekeeping Clinic on Saturday, February 17th at Valmonte from 11:30 to 1:30pm 11:30 to 12pm: Scorekeeping class 12pm to 1:30pm: Practice scorekeeping during a Majors scrimmage We will be teaching both online scoring with the GameChanger app and the classic way with the physical book. This instruction will be happening simultaneously, so if your team/coaches want to use both methods during the season, it s worth having two people attend the clinic. During the season, please arrive 20 minutes before the scheduled game time to get the lineups from the managers, set up the scorebook and set up the scoreboard. Record each game in the scorebook and have a 2 nd scorekeeper or another parent keep track of the pitch counts on the league provided form. If you are the home team, assign someone to operate the scoreboard. After the game, report the game score and number of (out of the park, only) home runs to Jesse Blatz by text to or at jesseblatz@gmail.com. For example: Majors, Dodgers 2, Red Sox 7, no HRs. Report any scoreboard problems to Equipment Manager, Brad Ballard or Facilities Manager, Craig Handjian as soon as possible so any necessary repairs can be made in a timely manner. If you have any questions, please /text or just give me a call. Thank you for volunteering! Jesse Blatz jesseblatz@gmail.com

4 All Managers and Coaches: PV LITTLE LEAGUE UNIFORM INFORMATION Palos Verdes Little League provides each player with a uniform which was included in this year s registration fee. Each uniform consists of a hat, jersey, belt (Majors, Intermediate and Minor only) and socks. It s important to note that uniform costs do not include pants. Each player must provide their own. Major, Intermediate and Minor players need to make sure their pants have belt loops, since a belt will be provided as part of the uniform. At the end of the year, Tee-Ball and Farm players get to keep their entire uniform. Minor, Intermediate and Major players get to keep everything except for their jerseys which they must return at the end of the season. You do not have to collect checks specifically for Major, Intermediate and Minor uniform deposits. One check for $200 (cash will not be accepted) will be required per player from every player s family to cover the deposit for both uniforms & snack shack. PLAYER NAME MUST BE IN MEMO LINE. Major, Intermediate and Minor jerseys are required to be returned. All deposit checks, your personal volunteer forms for the manager and coaches & your list of and contacts for team volunteers will be required prior to you being issued your teams uniforms. I strongly encourage each of you to have your parents bring their checks to your 1 st parent s meeting to make it easier for your uniform coordinator to gather all the checks as soon as possible. The check should be made payable to PVLL. At Your Team Meeting: Select a team Uniform Rep who will be responsible for the following: 1. Collecting $200 snack shack/uniform jersey deposit checks from each family. 2. Bringing all checks and a team roster to Uniform Pick-Up - day/time TBD. 3. Distributing uniforms to each player prior to Opening Day. 4. Collecting ALL jerseys at the end of the season (Minor, Intermediate and Major teams only). Jerseys should be returned in the same condition (allowing for normal wear and tear). Snack shack deposits will not be returned until the uniform jersey is returned. The Uniform rep is accountable for all of the jerseys, responsible for washing all jerseys and returning them one week after closing day. the name, phone number and address of your Uniform Rep to Amy Roche at amynortonroche@gmail.com as soon as possible. The uniform rep can contact Amy directly. Uniform Distribution Tip: Before you distribute the uniforms to your team, it is recommended to line up the players from smallest to tallest and then give your smallest jersey to the smallest player, etc. Jerseys are ordered months before Opening Day -- we are unable to order new jerseys or different sizes this late in the year. If you have any questions, contact Amy Roche at or amynortonroche@gmail.com.

5 Sponsorship Opportunities for PVLL 2018 We thank you for your sponsorship of Palos Verdes Little League and hope that you will continue your support of PVLL for the 2018 season. This past year, your collective sponsorship funds supported significant improvements across PVLL including new apron turf at Valmonte field, netting improvements to protect the kids, upgraded batting cages, new catch nets and L-Screens not to mention the (not-so) routine improvements to all of our fields. In addition to improving PVLL, we also donated funds to support the PV Challengers, a program focused on creating athletic opportunities for special needs children in our community. Again this year, we will be embarking on various safety upgrades and facility improvements over the coming months. As a registered 501c.3 nonprofit organization, Palos Verdes Little League utilizes our registration fees to support our teams with uniforms, equipment, umpires, and day to day field and facility maintenance for the league. As our facilities and capital equipment age we rely heavily on individual and corporate sponsorship to fund small and large capital projects to keep our league at the forefront of comparable regional youth athletic activities. The need for supplemental funding for organizations like ours has never been greater. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF PVLL and our causes!!!! 10 PVLL Opening Day Parade Saturday, February 24, 2018 General Information The goal of the parade is to kick off the season with a spectacular event for the players, their families, and the entire community to experience and remember for years to come. It s a great way for the players and their families to bond with their new teammates and coaches! Most teams use a pick-up truck, a flat bed, stake truck, or trailer. It s all up to the team, what they can acquire for the day and their imagination. Try to involve the kids in participating and decorating as much as possible. Most teams will have parents bring juice, coffee, doughnuts and/or muffins for their team and families to enjoy while decorating. Each team is responsible for the area around their truck. Please ensure trash is disposed of in the provided waste bins prior to departing. Parents are welcome to join in the pre-parade activities but no cars will be permitted in the Malaga or PVBC parking lots. These are reserved for the team parade trucks only! Please park on the surrounding surface streets to avoid unnecessary traffic. The PVE police officers will be judging the trucks again this year with 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place winners who will be announced at the Opening ceremony at Valmonte. Student volunteers will be on hand to assist with loading/unloading cars. Please remind the players -- No throwing of any objects from the trucks! Only players and coaches should ride in the truck. Try to plan ahead with who will drive/ride in the truck with the players. Everyone else will need to meet the teams at Valmonte.

11 PVLL Opening Day Parade Saturday, February 24, 2018 Parade Route / Line-Up Instructions Palos Verdes Beach Club (389 Paseo Del Mar, PVE) to Valmonte (3801 Via La Selva, PVE) via Palos Verdes Drive North & Via Adarme As we have in previous years, the parade team trucks will line up in the parking lot near Palos Verdes Beach Club and Malaga Cove School / Costume Closet as early as 7:30 am. Enter from Via Arroyo and drive through the parking lot to the designated division area. PVLL volunteers will be at the entrance to guide you where to go. Other than the 2 majors teams who need to line up first as they are playing in the first game of the day, all the teams will line up within their division area on a first in/first out basis. Please look closely at the map for your designated area. We want to avoid trucks having to back up or turn around because it becomes too dangerous with the amount of children and adults milling throughout the parking lot. Players can be dropped off at the corner of Via Arroyo and Paseo Del Mar. Those wishing to observe the parade should head back toward Valmonte by 8:30 am to avoid getting stuck behind the parade. The parade is best viewed from the center median along PV Drive North. For any questions or concerns, please contact the Parade Coordinators: Heather Croke (949) / Susan Moulton (562)

Tips for a Great Season (just our opinion from experience) - Let the kids have fun there are very FEW college scouts at T-Ball - Be positive, make sure the kids have fun - Be safe with bats - Teach your kids to catch a ball as soon as possible (we will help). Taking a line drive in the face is much less fun than catching it with the glove. - Parent involvement in practices and attendance at games helps the coaches (thanks) and makes it a great atmosphere during the games. - Speaking of atmosphere, enjoy the special environment that is PVLL both in terms of the practices and the Saturday games at Valmonte. People we met the first year are good friends today. PVLL has done a tremendous job of putting this team together and we will have an absolutely wonderful season. If you me, please use my address (xxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxx.com.) Everyone's contact information is below.go Team!!!
