3 SCOUTING KENTUCKY The Wildcats enter the weekend winners of their last eight games for a 16-6 record. Along with a pair of midweek wins, including Tuesday s victory over Western Kentucky, UK has swept Miami (OH) and Texas A&M in back-to-back three-games series. Last weekend, Kentucky opened up SEC play by taking all three games against Texas A&M for its first road sweep since The biggest reason for their success is at the plate as the Wildcats lead the SEC in several categories (see next note). Hitting a conference-best.328 as a team, Kentucky has six regular starters with batting averages cracking the.300 mark. Luke Becker and Marcus Carson lead the way with averages of.373 and.371, respectively. Providing power at the plate, Riley Mahan paces the Wildcats in doubles (11) and RBI (26). On the mound, UK holds a 2.79 ERA as a staff. Reigning SEC Pitcher of the Week Sean Hjelle has moved into a starting role after serving as the team s closer last season. Nick Mingione is in his first year guiding the Kentucky baseball program. BATTLE OF SEC LEADERS When Ole Miss and Kentucky face off this weekend, it will be a battle of the best pitching in the SEC against the conference s best offense. The Rebels lead the SEC in several categories: ERA (2.68), strikeouts (226), fewest hits allowed (131), opponent batting average (.193), saves (9), fewest hits allowed per nine innings (6.16), strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.04), fewest walks issued per nine innings (2.63) and WHIP (0.98). Meanwhile, the Wildcats top the league in multiple hitting stats: batting average (.328), slugging percentage (.502), on-base percentage (.435), runs (187), hits (247), RBI (174), doubles (62), total bases (378), hit by pitch (37) and sacrifice bunts (26). SERIES HISTORY Ole Miss leads the all-time series against Kentucky 50-31, including victories in the last six games. The Rebels swept the Wildcats at Swayze Field last season (May 12-14), winning a 14-2 contest in between a pair of two-run games. The series finale was a memorable one as the Ole Miss rallied from an early 5-0 deficit. In the bottom of the ninth, Henri Lartigue belted a three-run walk-off home run to complete the comeback. The last time these programs met in Lexington, Kentucky, the Rebels also broke out the brooms for a three-game sweep (April 25-27, 2014). Ole Miss outscored then-no. 17 Kentucky a combined in the series led by Auston Bousfield, who hit a blistering.714 during the series and ended up earning National Offensive Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America. Ole Miss has swept Kentucky in three of the last five series between the two conference foes. THE YEARLY GAUNTLET The Rebels are 8-4 versus ranked teams this season, which includes sweeps of both No. 6 East Carolina and No. 23 UNCW in three-game series at Swayze Field. Ole Miss also won a series over No. 15 Vanderbilt to start SEC play. Last season, the Rebels won 12 games against ranked teams which included series victories over No. 2 Louisville, No. 8 LSU and No. 21 Arkansas. Ole Miss also topped No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 4 South Carolina, No. 5 Mississippi State and No. 18 Coastal Carolina, which went on to win the national championship, in games last year. In 2015, the Rebels made the NCAA Tournament after having the nation s No. 1 strength of schedule. ON THE MOUND The Ole Miss pitching staff has been efficient on the mound this season, leading the SEC in several categories and ranking among the best in the nation. 4 GAMES KENTUCKY 4 The Rebels threatened with runners on late in the game, but it was the Tigers who used three singles to claim the win in walk-off fashion. Bortles finished the night going 2-for-4 for another multi-hit game. Making his first start of the season, Sean Johnson was efficient in a limited outing. The redshirt-senior allowed only one run on two hits and one walk over 4.0 innings. Sophomore Connor Green was effective out of the bullpen, tossing a season-high 2.2 innings and not giving up a run. JUCO TRANSFERS CLUTCH IN SEC DEBUTS Two Rebels made the SEC debuts in style, recording the game-winning hit in their first plate appearance of conference play. On Friday night, junior college transfer Tim Rowe smacked a pinch-hit single for the games only run in the win over No. 15 Vanderbilt. Two days, another JUCO transfer made his mark in his first SEC game. Coming off the bench initially as a defensive replacement, Chase Cockrell roped a double down the line that score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth. The two clutch hits helped Ole Miss win the first conference series of the season. FINISHING THE JOB Over the past few seasons, Ole Miss has been lights out when holding a lead after the eighth inning. In fact since March 15, 2014, the Rebels are a blistering in games they ve led heading into the ninth. The lone loss occurred during the 2016 NCAA Regional when a Tulane two-run homer shocked Ole Miss at Swayze Field. This season, the Rebels hold a 14-0 mark when ahead through eight innings of play. TWO IS BETTER THAN ONE Last year, Ole Miss had the luxury of having two closers in lefty Wyatt Short and right-hander Will Stokes. The duo combined for 18 saves in 2016 with Short in the primary role, closing 11 games. After drafted by the Chicago Cubs, Short took his talents to the professional level, and it appeared as if Stokes would become the lone closer on the staff in However, another Rebel has emerged to join Stokes in the back end of the bullpen. Sophomore Dallas Woolfolk, whose fastball ranges from mph, has become another pitcher that Ole Miss can rely on as a closer. The Southaven, Mississippi, native holds a 1.15 ERA over a team-high 10 appearances. Along with tallying 19 strikeouts and issuing only two walks, Woolfolk boasts five saves to lead the SEC and rank 17th nationally. Stokes adds four saves to the Ole Miss total of nine, which paces the conference. IT ALL STARTS WITH PITCHING Beginning with a midweek game against Georgia State (March 7), Ole Miss starting pitching went the next seven games without allowing a run. Until Vanderbilt scored a run in the top of the fourth during game two (March 18), Rebel starters combined to pitch 52.2 scoreless innings. During the streak, 69 strikeouts were recorded while only 28 hits and 19 walks were allowed. The impressive stretch helped the entire Ole Miss staff pitch six shutouts, including a school-record five in a row. SHUTOUT STREAK For the first time in program history, Ole Miss posted shutouts in five straight games. To begin the streak, the Rebels held Furman, a team with a combined batting average of.317, scoreless for the entire weekend to earn their third three-game sweep of the 2017 season. Keeping the Paladins without a run (March 10-12), the Rebels posted a three-game series shutout for the first time since March 12-14, 2004, coincidentally vs. Nicholls. Continuing the streak, Ole Miss shut out Nicholls 5-0 (March 14) in Biloxi, Mississippi. Coming back to Swayze Field and kicking off SEC play, the Rebels took down No. 15 Vanderbilt 1-0 (March 17). Before the Commodores broke the streak during the second game of the series, Ole Miss pitched tossed 48.2 consecutive scoreless frames, surrendering just 16 hits and issuing 14 walks. Meanwhile, the Rebels added 53 strikeouts and held opposing hitters to a.104 batting average. THE FRESHMEN With 15 freshmen as part of the nation s No. 1 recruiting class, some of the newest young Rebels are making an impact right away. Ole Miss has started four freshmen in the majority of games: LF/DH Thomas Dillard (19 starts), C Cooper Johnson (16 starts), SS Grae Kessinger (19 games) and 1B Cole Zabowski (16 starts). 5 GAMES KENTUCKY 5 GOLSAN LEADS THE WAY Junior Will Golsan has been the most consistent Ole Miss hitter this season, leading the team in hits (24), runs (14), doubles (5) and total bases (32). The Columbus, Mississippi native has also produced six multi-hit games to lead the Rebels. He s shown his versatility in the field as well, starting in his third different position in as many seasons. Golsan won the starting nod at second base following the beginning of his freshman season before moving to first base last year. This season, Golsan has found his home in right field to better showcase his athleticism. He is the only Rebel to start all 21 games. THE 17TH SEASON OF THE BIANCO ERA The 2017 season is the 17th year of Ole Miss Baseball led by Mike Bianco, the program s all-time wins leader. With 644 wins at Ole Miss over the past 16+ seasons, Bianco is the winningest and longest active coach in the Southeastern Conference. In fact, he s the conference s longest active coach among the sports of baseball, men s basketball and football. He ranks seventh on the SEC s all-time wins list after passing longtime Auburn coach Hal Baird earlier this season. Bianco is also on pace to leapfrog former Vanderbilt coach Roy Mewbourne, who sits in sixth, this season; Mewbourne produced 655 wins in 24 seasons. ON THE HORIZON Following the weeklong road trip, the Rebels return to Swayze Field for a four-game homestand. Tuesday morning (March 28), Ole Miss welcomes Little Rock for the annual School Day Game as 6,000 local elementary school students plan to arrive for the 11 a.m. first pitch. Two days later, the Rebels kick off another SEC weekend early with a nationally televised matchup with Mississippi State Thursday night (March 30). The rivalry begins at 7 p.m. CT on ESPNU before jumping over to SEC Network for game two of the series (March 31). Concluding the series, the Rebels and Bulldogs will meet for a Saturday afternoon contest starting at 1:30 p.m. (April 1). HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE Swayze Field provides the best atmosphere and some of the biggest crowds across the country for college baseball games. The Rebels have won over 70 percent of their home games throughout the past 28 seasons. The combination of winning baseball plus an electric fan base makes Oxford- University Stadium/Swayze Field a bucket list item for any sports fan. A 2016 survey conducted by D1Baseball.com proved it as Division I baseball coaches ranked Swayze Field top 10 nationally in six different categories, including prettiest setting, best traditions, best overall stadium and most intimidating cracking the top five. 6 GAMES KENTUCKY 6 contests with the attendance over 10,000, to rank second nationally. In total, 291,714 fans watched Ole Miss Baseball at Swayze Field, which was also the thirdhighest total attendance in the country. Both marks set season attendance records. With single-game and series records already broken this season, Ole Miss has averaged 8,422 per game to rank second in the nation. PARKINSON NAMED SEC PITCHER OF THE WEEK Following the best start of his career, Ole Miss ace David Parkinson was named SEC Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced March 13. Pitching a careerlong 8.0 scoreless innings versus Furman (March 10), the junior left-hander earned his first weekly accolade as a Rebel. Parkinson became the second Rebel to earn an SEC weekly honor through the first four weeks of the season. Ryan Olenek was the SEC Player of the Week after opening weekend. Prior to Parkinson, the last Rebel to be named SEC Pitcher of the Week was Wyatt Short (May 11, 2015). Kicking off the weekend, Parkinson got the Rebels off to a perfect start by pitching a gem. Against a team hitting.317 heading into the weekend, the Henrico, Virginia, native struck out a career-high nine hitters and did not issue a walk during his longest outing as a Rebel. Moreover, he had a no hitter intact until a leadoff single to center in the eighth inning. Parkinson faced the minimum as the Furman baserunner was wiped off the base patch on a groundball double play. As the team s ace, Parkinson is 3-1 with a 2.52 ERA this season through four starts. He has recorded 26 strikeouts, ranked 10th among conference pitchers, while only walking five in 25.0 innings of work. The southpaw is holding opponents to a.198 batting average to help the Ole Miss pitching staff pace the conference in that category. COOPER JOHNSON NAMED TO JOHNNY BENCH AWARD WATCH LIST Ole Miss freshman Cooper Johnson was named to the watch list for the 2017 Johnny Bench Award, one of 85 catchers nominated for the award given annually to the top catcher in Division I baseball. Johnson, the top-ranked catcher out of high school last season, has earned the starting nod behind the dish in his first season as a Rebel. Making 13 starts through the first 16 games of the season, the Mundelein, Illinois, native has thrown out six baserunners (four caught stealing, two pickoffs). With only eight attempted stolen bases against Ole Miss so far (second-fewest in the SEC), opponents have been wary of the freshman s strong arm. The tradition of great catchers at Ole Miss is well known, especially over recent history. Stuart Turner won the Johnny Bench Award in One year later, Will Allen was an All-American catcher as a 2014 Johnny Bench Award finalist. As a first team All-SEC catcher, Henri Lartigue made the cut of semifinalists in With a coaching staff filled with guys who played the position, expectations of Rebel catchers are always lofty. 7 assistant coaches Carl Lafferty and Mike Clement also started behind the plate during their playing days. GAMES KENTUCKY 7 BORTLES NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM In one of the most prestigious tournaments in the country, senior Colby Bortles was named to the all-tournament team for the 2017 Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic. The Oviedo, Florida, native managed the hot corner all weekend long, while hitting.300 at the plate. Against No. 10 Texas Tech, Bortles helped turn a quick double play with the bases loaded to keep the Red Raiders off the scoreboard. The next day, facing No. 1 TCU, he belted a two-run blast over the railroad tracks of Minute Maid Park for his team-leading third home run of the season. SUCCESS AGAINST TOP-RANKED TEAMS The Rebels are no stranger to facing the nation s best competition. Ole Miss has won 23 games against top-10 teams over the last three-plus seasons, including series victories over No. 1 Louisiana-Lafayette (2014 Super Regional), No. 1 Florida (2015), No. 1 Vanderbilt (2015), No. 2 Louisville (2016), No. 8 LSU (2016) and No. 6 East Carolina (2017). LUCKY NUMBER 7 Facing two ranked teams that made the postseason in 2016 along with having a young team on paper, it looked as if life would be tough for the Rebels through the first two weeks of the season. While it wasn t been easy, Ole Miss took care of business and jumped out to a 7-0 record for the eighth time in program history. The last time the Rebels started 7-0 was in 2013 when Memphis handed them their first loss of the season. Under Mike Bianco, Ole Miss also started 2004 and 2008 winning at least the first seven games of the year. The Rebels claimed the first nine games of the 2008 campaign, while winning a school-record 11 straight to begin the 2004 season. ATTENDANCE RECORDS With the combination of the No. 1 recruiting class, returning veterans and a top-10 team coming to town, the start of the 2017 season was highly anticipated by Rebel Nation. The Ole Miss faithful came out in record numbers throughout the weekend, starting with Opening Day. A single-game Swayze Field record of 12,117 watched Ole Miss knock off No. 6 East Carolina 5-4 in game one. The following day, 11,494 fans saw the Rebels clinch the series with another one-run win; that crowd was the third-highest in Swayze Field history. Closing out the weekend, Ole Miss brought out the brooms for an 8-6 victory in front of 9,459. The three-day total of 33,070 set another Swayze Field record for attendance during a series, breaking the previous mark of 29,646 for the 2009 NCAA Super Regional. FRESHMAN FIREARMS In the first midweek game of the season, four freshmen dazzled on the mound in a 16-4 thumping of Arkansas State Tuesday night at Swayze Field. The young quartet of Will Ethridge, Houston Roth, Ryan Rolison and Greer Holston combined for 19 strikeouts, the most by an Ole Miss pitching staff since April 10, 2015 (6-5 win in a 16-inning game at No. 1 Vanderbilt) and the most in a nine-inning game since Feb. 22, 2008 (school record 21 vs. Minnesota). Making his debut, Ethridge mowed down the Red Wolves. He recorded 10 strikeouts, the most by an Ole Miss freshman since Justin Cryer accomplished the feat in 2007 and the most in an Ole Miss debut this century. Roth, another freshman making his first appearance as a Rebel, struck out five over 2.0 scoreless innings of work. Rolison and Holston closed out the contest with one inning apiece, keeping ASU off the scoreboard. HOW SWEEP IT IS! As the only top-10 matchup in the country on opening weekend, the Rebels knew they had a tall task in facing No. 6 East Carolina and former Ole Miss assistant Cliff Godwin. However, behind a mix of newcomers and veterans, Ole Miss swept the Pirates in three close games. Freshmen Thomas Dillard and Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field, the home of Ole Miss Baseball for the past 28 seasons, is the greatest atmosphere in college baseball. With a capacity of 10,323, Swayze Field holds some of the largest crowds watching college baseball throughout the country on any given day. Ole Miss has ranked top five nationally in attendance in each of the past 10 seasons. Last season, the Rebels averaged 8,502 fans per home game with a total of 291,714 for the entire year. Both marks set new program records. 7

8 GAMES KENTUCKY 8 Cole Zabowski along with veterans Will Golsan and Ryan Olenek hit over.400 throughout the weekend to lead the Rebels at the plate. Meanwhile, the bullpen limited ECU to two runs over a combined 10.2 innings. The sweep marked the first time the Rebels defeated a top-10 opponent in three straight games since April 24-25, 2010 versus No. 5 LSU. RALLY REBELS The Rebels showed resilience throughout opening weekend, rallying from behind in all three games versus No. 6 East Carolina. Three times after the Pirates plated runs in the top half of an inning, Ole Miss immediately responded by scoring in the bottom half of the frame. In the season opener, a leadoff home run put ECU on the board first, but the Rebels responded with a run of their own. Three innings later, the Pirates scored two runs to take a 3-2 lead before Ole Miss countered with a pair of runs to regain a 4-3 advantage. Trailing 2-0 in game two, the Rebels got out of a bases-loaded game with a groundball double play before scoring three runs over the next two innings to claim the one-run victory. In the series finale, ECU plated four runs in the top of the sixth to take a commanding 6-2 lead; however, Ole Miss answered with a big five-run inning to flip the script to 7-6. The Rebels added an insurance run to win 8-6 and capture the sweep. OLENEK NAMED SEC PLAYER OF THE WEEK After helping lead the Ole Miss baseball team to a sweep over No. 6 East Carolina to begin the 2017 season, sophomore center fielder Ryan Olenek was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week. Hitting.462 throughout the weekend, Olenek earned a weekly award for the first time in his young Rebel career. Olenek spent most of his freshman season as the Rebels starting right fielder, but he was called upon to move to center field this year following All-American J.B. Woodman getting selected in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He also moved to the top of the order on opening weekend. However, filling the shoes of an All-American and becoming more of a prominent piece of the lineup did not faze Olenek. Starting all three games in center field, Olenek went 6-for-13 with two doubles over the weekend, recording at least one hit in each game. Batting second in the season opener, he ripped a double down the first base line for the Rebels first hit of the season before coming around to score the first run of the 2017 campaign as well. The Winter Springs, Florida, native went 3-for-4 with a double to lead the team in a 5-4 victory. Batting in the leadoff spot for the first time in his career, Olenek put together another multi-hit game and plated one run in Saturday s 3-2 win. Wrapping up the weekend, the Rebels trailed by four in the middle of the sixth of Sunday s season finale. Ole Miss bounced back in the bottom half of the frame, and Olenek placed the cherry on top of a five-run inning. The sophomore smacked the game-winning two-run double that gave the Rebels the lead for good to complete the sweep. OLE MISS DEBUTS Eleven Rebels made their debuts on opening weekend: IF Bryce Blaum (pinch runner, Feb. 18), IF Chase Cockrell, (designated hitter, Feb. 17), OF Thomas Dillard (left field, Feb. 17), RHP Greer Holston (relief pitcher, Feb. 19), C Cooper Johnson (catcher, Feb. 17), IF Grae Kessinger (shortstop, Feb. 17), C Carson Klepzig (pinch runner, Feb. 19), LHP Ryan Rolison (relief pitcher, Feb. 19), OF Tim Rowe (pinch hitter, Feb. 19), OF Bryan Seamster (pinch runner, Feb. 17) and IF Cole Zabowski (first base, Feb. 17). Five newcomers earned starts on Opening Day: Cockrell, Dillard, Johnson, Kessinger and Zabowski. 6,000 SEASON TICKETS SOLD...AND COUNTING! Rebel Nation is ready for the 2017 Ole Miss Baseball season after breaking a school record for season tickets sold. Heading into opening weekend, Ole Miss Baseball season ticket holders grew to more than 6,000 and counting, snapping the mark of 5,877 last season. That number is more than the average attendance of every college baseball team in nationwide, aside from four schools. All five schools with an average attendance more than 6,000 in 2016 are in the Southeastern Conference. Ole Miss currently has 6,218 season ticket holders. BORTLES NAMED PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN, ALL-SEC Entering the final year of his Ole Miss career, third baseman Colby Bortles was named a third team Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball and Preseason All-SEC by the conference s coaches. From playing in 40 games and earning a start in the 2014 College World Series as a freshman to starting all 62 games last year, he has made his mark on the program. The Oviedo, Florida, native has appeared in 158 games through the first three seasons as a Rebel, making 129 starts. As a.272 career hitter, Bortles has been known for his power at the dish with 34 doubles and 17 home runs. In 2016, Bortles led the Rebels in doubles with 21, ranking second in the Southeastern Conference as well as fifth in Ole Miss history for a single season. As a team captain, he helped Ole Miss to a record that included 18 SEC wins and hosting the team s seventh NCAA Regional in the last 13 years. He produced 14 multi-rbi games leading to a season total of 50 that was 15th among SEC hitters. After hitting seven homers as a sophomore, Bortles belted eight last season to go along with a.475 slugging percentage. BLACKMAN EARNS PRESEASON ALL-SEC HONORS Alongside Bortles, second baseman Tate Blackman was chosen as a Preseason All-SEC honoree as well. Blackman had a breakout season a year ago, hitting.322 to earn second team All-SEC accolades. Last year, the Altamonte Springs, Florida, native started all 62 games at second base and put together 21 multi-hit contests. He also led the conference in sacrifice flies with seven, a mark that ranked 19th nationally. Blackman finished the 2016 campaign with 74 hits, 48 runs, 38 RBI, 13 doubles and three home runs. Through two seasons as a Rebel, Blackman has appeared in 101 games with a.278 career batting average. He s a two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll as a criminal justice major. STOKES NAMED TO STOPPER OF THE YEAR WATCH LIST Ole Miss closer Will Stokes was named to the preseason watch list for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award. Stokes is the second Rebel to earn a spot on the watch list in as many years. Last season, southpaw Wyatt Short made the preseason and midseason lists as the Rebels primary closer. With Short now in the professional ranks with the World Series champion Chicago Cubs organization, Stokes becomes the go-to reliever at 8

9 9 GAMES KENTUCKY 9 the end of games. However, it is a role that he held at times throughout the 2016 campaign. As a sophomore, Stokes tied a school record with 30 relief appearances throughout the season. That mark also ranked fifth among relievers in the Southeastern Conference. The Meridian, Mississippi, native went 2-1 with seven saves and a 2.93 ERA over 43.0 innings as a solid piece to the 2016 Ole Miss bullpen. The junior also recorded 40 strikeouts while walking just seven and holding opponents to a.228 batting average. RETURNING REBELS The Rebels return 17 players from last season s team, including five starting position players. Alongside preseason all-conference infielders Colby Bortles and Tate Blackman, other returners feature junior Kyle Watson and sophomore Ryan Olenek, a pair of infielders who have used their athletic abilities to convert to the outfield. Olenek will move from right field to center field following All-American J.B. Woodman getting selected in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft. A new addition to the outfield is a veteran who will be switching positions for a third time in as many seasons. From playing second base as a freshman and first base as a sophomore, Will Golsan makes the transition to right field in Redshirt-sophomore Michael Fitzsimmons, who started as a designated hitter last year, will battle junior college transfer Chase Cockrell and incoming freshman Cole Zabowski for the nod at first base. Following whoever wins the job, the other two could see action at DH. Back on the mound, the Rebels return nine arms, including three Freshman All-Americans. Two of those Freshmen All-Americans, Brady Feigl and James McArthur, earned spots in the weekend rotation. The other Freshman All-American, Andy Pagnozzi, will be an important piece of the Ole Miss staff after recording eight wins out of the bullpen last season. With two sophomores holding a pair of spots in the rotation, junior David Parkinson will take over the role as the team s ace. Two more sophomores that expect to see a lot of innings out of the bullpen are Connor Green and Dallas Woolfolk, who recorded the two lowest ERAs on the team in They ll be relied on to set up the game for Will Stokes, who becomes the primary closer. TEAM CAPTAINS Team captains for this season s team are senior third baseman Colby Bortles and junior second baseman Tate Blackman. Bortles is a captain for the secondstraight season, while Blackman will officially help lead the Rebels for the first time in his career. The captains were selected from a vote by the team. WELCOME THE NATION S NO. 1 RECRUITING CLASS The 2016 Ole Miss Baseball recruiting class came to campus arguably the best class in program history. That opinion became fact after Baseball America and D1Baseball.com ranked Ole Miss first in their respective recruiting rankings during the offseason. The top ranking marked the first No. 1 recruiting class in Ole Miss Athletics history. All 17 members of the recruiting class, including four selected in the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft, decided to continue their careers at Ole Miss. The class consists of 15 freshmen and two junior college transfers, including four freshmen hailing from Oxford. The accolades of the incoming class are second to none. Seven earned All-America accolades last year and six were named in the top-500 draft prospects in the country. The Rebels brought in five freshmen who were ranked among the top-100 high school baseball players, more than any other school nationwide. Several newcomers also competed in prestigious all-star games during their high school careers. Five competed in the East Coast Professional Showcase, three participated in the Area Code Games and a trio of Rebels played in the Under Armour All-America Game at Wrigley Field. Two Rebs even won a gold medal at the 18-and-under World Cup as a member of Team USA. Below are some of the accolades of the incoming class: No. 1 Recruiting Class by the Numbers 7 High School All-Americans: Jason Barber (RHP), Thomas Dillard (C/OF), Will Ethridge (RHP), Cooper Johnson (C), Grae Kessinger (SS), Ryan Rolison (LHP), Houston Roth (RHP) 6 Top-500 Draft Prospects: Thomas Dillard (C/OF), Will Ethridge (RHP), Greer Holston (RHP), Cooper Johnson (C), Grae Kessinger (SS), Ryan Rolison (LHP), 5 Top-100 High School Players: Thomas Dillard (C/OF), Will Ethridge (RHP), Cooper Johnson (C), Grae Kessinger (SS), Ryan Rolison (LHP) 6 Participants in National All-Star Games: Thomas Dillard (C/OF), Will Ethridge (RHP), Greer Holston (RHP), Cooper Johnson (C), Grae Kessinger (SS), Jackson Tavel (LHP) 2 18U World Cup Gold Medalists: Cooper Johnson (C), Ryan Rolison (LHP) OLE MISS PREDICTED TO FINISH THIRD IN SEC WEST SEC coaches submitted their season predictions in terms of the conference standings. No. 8 Ole Miss was projected to place third in the SEC West after being picked to finish fifth in the last year s preseason poll. In the last three years, the Rebels have exceeded conference expectations with a College World Series appearance in 2014, an NCAA Regional berth in 2015 and hosting an NCAA Regional last season. Florida and LSU earned the most votes in their respective divisions. A total of seven SEC teams qualified for NCAA Regionals in 2016 and five advanced to Super Regionals.
