3 SCOUTING AUBURN Auburn got out to a fast start to the season before cooling off as of late. The Tigers were and 14-7 in conference, sitting atop the SEC West before losing their past seven games. AU suffered consecutive SEC series sweeps to rival Alabama (May 5-7) and LSU (May 11-13). With only one game separating the two teams in conference play, the Rebels and Tigers are competing for seeding in the SEC Tournament as well as holding an advantage over the other in the eyes of the NCAA selection committee. Jonah Todd leads Auburn at the dish with a.389 batting average that ranks second in the SEC. Meanwhile, Dylan Ingram paces the team in home runs (8) and RBI (38). On the mound, the Tigers have a lethal 1-2 punch as Keegan Thompson and Casey Mize boast earned run averages of 2.48 and 1.97, respectively. Mize s ERA ranks third in the SEC, while is 11.0 strikeout-to-walk ratio tops the conference and sits second nationally. The Tigers are coached by Butch Thompson, who is in his second season at Auburn. SERIES HISTORY Ole Miss holds a slight advantage in the all-time series , gaining the edge by winning seven of the past nine contests between the two divisional foes. The Rebels swept the Tigers in three-game sets at Swayze Field during the 2014 and 2016 campaigns. In 2015, Auburn took the opener before splitting a doubleheader to claim the series on its home diamond. Speaking of a split, each team one a game in the first series between the two back in LAST SEASON S SERIES Last season at Swayze Field, Ole Miss broke out the brooms for a three-game sweep of Auburn (April 22-24, 2016). The Rebels won in three different ways. In the series opener, Ole Miss broke a 2-2 tie with a four-run seventh before holding off the Tigers in a 6-4 win. Clinching the series in game two, the Rebels led throughout the game by jumping out to a 5-0 lead through two innings and claiming a 7-4 victory. Closing out the weekend, Ole Miss charged back from five runs down. Trailing 5-0 heading into the eighth, Colby Bortles hit a two-run blast to give the Rebels life. One inning later, Ryan Olenek s three-run homer brought the game to a 5-5 standstill that didn t last long. Later in the ninth, Henri Lartigue delivered his fourth hit of the game to plate the winning run and secure the sweep in walk-off fashion. OLENEK VERSUS AUBURN In his first season as a Rebel, Ryan Olenek found success against the 2016 Auburn Tigers. The Winter Springs, Florida native hit.357 (5-for-14) with three runs and six RBI throughout the three-game series. He started the weekend by leading Ole Miss to a 7-4 win in a three-hit performance that included a pair of RBI. After contributing another hit and run in game two, Olenek helped the Rebels rally from a five-deficit to close out the series. In the bottom of the ninth, he belted a three-run homer to tie the game before Ole Miss added another run in the frame to complete the comeback victory. Olenek will look to continue the success versus Auburn this weekend. THE YEARLY GAUNTLET The Rebels are versus ranked teams in 2017, which includes sweeps of both No. 6 East Carolina and No. 23 UNCW in three-game series at Swayze Field as well as a two-game season sweep of No. 16 Southern Miss. Ole Miss also won series over No. 15 Vanderbilt, No. 10 Arkansas and No. 19 Texas A&M, while taking one game from both No. 8 LSU and No. 19 Kentucky. Last season, the Rebels won 12 games against ranked teams which included series victories over No. 2 Louisville, No. 8 LSU and No. 21 Arkansas. Ole Miss also topped No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 4 South Carolina, No. 5 Mississippi State and No. 18 Coastal Carolina, which went on to win the national championship, in games last year. In 2015, the Rebels made the NCAA Tournament after having the nation s No. 1 strength of schedule. THE ROAD TO HOOVER With one weekend left in conference play, it s time to start looking towards the 2017 SEC Baseball Tournament, which will take place May in Hoover, Alabama. Ole Miss is currently ninth in the overall standings and has secured a spot in the conference tournament. Only three games separate four teams fighting for seeds 6-9, so there is plenty of uncertainly heading into the final weekend. The top 12 teams qualify for the SEC Tournament; moreover, the top four automatically earn byes into the double elimination portion of the tournament. Ole Miss can move up as high as sixth in the standings, while dropping no worse than 11th. 3 GAMES AUBURN 3 HEAD COACH MIKE BIANCO (.622) 20th season (.628) at Ole Miss 17th season RECORD BREAKDOWN Category Record (Pct) Home (.728) Road (.507) Neutral (.491) vs. SEC Teams (.541) vs. SEC West (.521) vs. SEC East (.567) In SEC Games (.543) SEC Tournament (.500) NCAA Regionals (.548) NCAA Super Regionals (.357) NCAA College World Series (.500) Non-Conference Foes (.729) In February (.793) In March (.665) In April (.612) In May (.528) In June (.522) One Run Games (.548) Two Run Games (.609) Extra-Inning Games (.591) BIANCO vs OPPONENTS Alabama Arkansas Arkansas-Pine Bluff Arkansas State Auburn Baylor East Carolina Florida Furman Georgia State Kentucky Little Rock LSU Memphis Mississippi State Missouri Nicholls Southern Miss TCU Texas A&M Texas Tech ULM UNCW Vanderbilt YEAR-BY-YEAR RECORDS Year School W-L Conf. 4 GAMES AUBURN 4 DILLARD NAMED TO SEC COMMUNITY SERVICE TEAM Ole Miss freshman Thomas Dillard was recognized as a member of the 2017 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league office announced Wednesday morning. A native of Oxford, Dillard actively assisted his hometown throughout his first year as a Rebel. He was a leader in the Adopt-A-Basket program, working with Interfaith Compassion Ministries to provide a total of 50 Thanksgiving baskets from the Ole Miss Athletics Department to those in the Lafayette and Oxford communities. Working so closely with the cause, Dillard accepted an award on behalf of the athletic department. He also went to local elementary schools to read books to students as part of the Reading with the Rebels program. Using his talents on the diamond, he volunteered at the Bats and Balls Clinic in coordination with the Junior Auxiliary of Oxford. On campus, Dillard represents his fellow studentathletes on the Ole Miss Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), meeting throughout the year with athletic department administration. He joined other Ole Miss students to participate in RebelTHON, a fundraising event for the Children s Miracle Network Hospital. In the fall, Dillard and the Rebels helped Shriners Hospitals for Children throw a surprise birthday for a young Ole Miss fan at Swayze Field. FOCUS ON FORTES Nick Fortes waited for his opportunity and since receiving it, he has taken advantage of it. With the help of his bat, the sophomore has started 29 of the Rebels last 31 games. The catcher caught 14 of those games behind the plate and has also started 15 games at first base. Since assuming starting duties, Fortes is hitting.337 (30-for-86). In 40 games this season, including 34 starts, he leads the team with a.320 batting average, including.342 in SEC play. Over the past nine contests, Fortes boasts a.382 clip at the dish. In a midweek game against ULM (May 2), he hit two home runs in the sixth inning to become the first Rebel to homer twice in the same inning since Michael Guerrero (May 31, 2008 vs. Bethune-Cookman in the NCAA Coral Gables Regional). He concluded the weekend at No. 5 Florida with another three-hit performance before recording at least one hit in all three games versus No. 19 Texas A&M. ON THE MOUND The Ole Miss pitching staff has been efficient on the mound this season, leading the SEC in several categories and ranking among the best in the nation. Individually, Colby Bortles is the SEC leader with six sacrifice flies, while Dallas Woolfolk ranks 12th nationally with 12 saves. On the season, Bortles leads Ole Miss in RBI (41), home runs (10) and multi-rbi games (12). He has reached base in 19 consecutive games as well. Meanwhile, Blackman paces the team in runs (43), triples (3), slugging percentage (.516) and on base percentage (.410). The two helped put away No. 19 Texas A&M in the series finale, hitting home runs in the bottom of the eighth. With the Rebels leading by two, Blackman belted a solo home run before Bortles followed with a two-run blast in what could be the senior s final at-bat at Swayze Field. FIRST INNING RUNS Ole Miss has scored in the first inning in 11 of the last 17 games, including all three contests versus No. 19 Texas A&M last weekend. On the season, the Rebels are 12-6 when scoring in the opening frame. In terms of runs, Ole Miss pitching has been the most effective in the first inning this season, giving up only 17 runs through 53 games. Plating 31 runs themselves, the Rebels +14 run differential is the team s third-best inning (sixth inning, +24; second inning, +16). THE REBELS RECORD WHEN... 5 GAMES AUBURN 5 WOOLFOLK THE CLOSER With Wyatt Short now in the professional ranks with the World Series champion Chicago Cubs organization, Dallas Woolfolk burst onto the scene in 2017 to become the go-to reliever at the end of games. Woolfolk, whose fastball ranges from mph, has been nearly unhittable this season. The Southaven, Mississippi, native holds a 2.00 ERA over a team-high 25 appearances. Along with tallying 40 strikeouts and issuing only five walks, Woolfolk is 3-2 and boasts 12 saves as the team s closer. His 12 saves rank third in the SEC as well as 11th nationally. Woolfolk is one save away from tying Stephen Head (2003) for the most in a single season in Ole Miss history. Moreover, the hard-throwing righty has shown that he s more than just a one-inning wonder by recording at least four outs to earn six of his saves. In 36.0 innings, Woolfolk is holding opposing hitters to a.194 batting average. As a freshman, he was 1-0 with a 2.55 ERA and one save in 18 appearances (17.2 innings). With 13 career saves already, Woolfolk ranks tied for seventh on the program s all-time list. Moving into his second year as a Rebel, his breakout moment occurred on opening weekend. In the series finale against No. 6 East Carolina (Feb. 19), Woolfolk entered the game in the eighth with the bases loaded and nobody out as the runner on second represented the tying run. In the toughest possible jam in baseball, he locked in by striking out three straight hitters to end the inning and keep the Pirates from scoring. He ended up coming back out for the ninth, recording two more strikeouts on his way to retiring the side and earning his first save of the season. He was named to the midseason watch list for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award (April 26), one of 40 pitchers on the watch list for the award given annually to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball. GOLSAN S CONSISTENCY Junior Will Golsan has been the most consistent Ole Miss hitter this season, leading the team in hits (65) and multi-hit games (19). The Columbus, Mississippi, native also ranks second on the team in batting average (.316), runs (39) and doubles (11). He hits even better in SEC play with a.340 average in conference games. Recording at least one hit in 17 of the last 19 games, Golsan is hitting at a.431 clip (28-for-65). He helped lead Ole Miss to a victorious series over No. 19 Texas A&M, going 7-for-13 during the three-game set. Throughout his career, he s shown his versatility in the field as well, starting at his third different position in as many seasons. Golsan won the starting nod at second base following the beginning of his freshman season before moving to first base last year. This season, Golsan has found his home in right field to better showcase his athleticism. He is the only Rebel to start all 53 games (49 in right field, three in center field, one at first base). Offensively, the underclassmen (freshmen and sophomores) have taken 56 percent of the team s at-bats with a freshman stepping up to the plate 30 percent of the time. OUTFIELD FLASHING THE LEATHER Last season, the Ole Miss outfield recorded 17 assists, one off the school record of 18 set in Despite the loss of All-American J.B. Woodman to professional baseball, the Rebel outfielders have continued to make plays this season as Ole Miss has tallied 14 outfield assists in Will Golsan and Ryan Olenek lead the way with five assists apiece. Thomas Dillard has two, while Bryan Seamster and Kyle Watson each have one outfield assist to their credit. FINISHING THE JOB Over the past few seasons, Ole Miss has been lights out when holding a lead after the eighth inning. In fact since March 15, 2014, the Rebels are a blistering in games they ve led heading into the ninth. The lone loss occurred during the 2016 NCAA Regional when a Tulane two-run homer shocked Ole Miss at Swayze Field. This season, the Rebels hold a 27-0 mark when ahead through eight innings of play. THE FRESHMEN With 15 freshmen as part of the nation s No. 1 recruiting class, some of the newest young Rebels are making an impact right away. 7 GAMES AUBURN 7 THE 17TH SEASON OF THE BIANCO ERA The 2017 season is the 17th year of Ole Miss Baseball led by Mike Bianco, the program s all-time wins leader. With 661 wins at Ole Miss over the past 16+ seasons, Bianco is the winningest and longest active coach in the Southeastern Conference. In fact, he s the conference s longest active coach among the sports of baseball, men s basketball and football. He ranks sixth on the SEC s all-time wins list after passing former Vanderbilt coach Roy Mewbourne last weekend. ON THE HORIZON After the final weekend of the regular season, the Rebels will head to Hoover, Alabama to compete in the 2017 SEC Tournament. Ole Miss is guaranteed to play in a single-elimination game on Tuesday. Game time and opponent will be determined Saturday evening. If the Rebels win on Tuesday, they will play at least two more contests. All conference tournament games will be broadcast on SEC Network, aside from the championship game which will air live on ESPN2. HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE Swayze Field provides the best atmosphere and some of the biggest crowds across the country for college baseball games. The Rebels have won over 70 percent of their home games throughout the past 28 seasons. The combination of winning baseball plus an electric fan base makes Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field a bucket list item for any sports fan. A 2016 survey conducted by D1Baseball.com proved it as Division I baseball coaches ranked Swayze Field top 10 nationally in six different categories, including prettiest setting, best traditions, best overall stadium and most intimidating cracking the top five. Last year, the Rebels averaged 8,579 fans per game, including five contests with the attendance over 10,000, to rank second nationally. In total, 291,714 fans watched Ole Miss Baseball at Swayze Field, which was also the third-highest total attendance in the country. Both marks set season attendance records. With single-game (12,177 on opening day versus East Carolina, Feb. 17) and series (33,070 versus East Carolina, Feb ) records already broken this season, Ole Miss has averaged 8,545 per game to rank second in the nation. That average attendance, along with a total attendance of 273,448 over 32 home games, are Swayze Field regular season records. MLB REBELS The 2017 Major League Baseball season is now underway, and five former Rebels earned spots on big league ballclubs: Zack Cozart (Cincinnati Reds), Lance Lynn (St. Louis Cardinals), Drew Pomeranz (Boston Red Sox), Seth Smith (Baltimore Orioles), Stuart Turner (Cincinnati Reds) and Bobby Wahl (Oakland Athletics). For the second consecutive season, Cozart began the season with a hit in his first at-bat and also scored the Reds first run of the 2017 campaign. He is in his sixth season as the starting shortstop for the Reds. Lynn will make his 2017 debut Thursday (April 6), returning to the mound after missing the entire 2016 season due to Tommy John surgery. Another MLB Rebel pitcher, Pomeranz begins the season on the disabled list due to a forearm flexor strain; however, the southpaw is scheduled to be back to start the April 9 game. After getting traded from the Seattle Mariners to the Baltimore Orioles during the offseason, Smith debuted with his new American League team and scored the Orioles first run of the year. The newest Rebel to make a Major League roster is Turner. In December, the Reds picked the catcher in the Rule 5 Draft from the Minnesota Twins. Turner hit over.400 during Spring Training to earn a spot on the 25-man roster. He made his MLB debut on Thursday (April 6), becoming the 45th player in Ole Miss Baseball history to play in the Majors. Wahl was called up May 3 and made his MLB debut that night. DON KESSINGER NAMED SEC BASEBALL LEGEND Don Kessinger, a two-sport All-American at Ole Miss before becoming a six-time All-Star in Major League Baseball, will be honored at the 2017 SEC Tournament as Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field, the home of Ole Miss Baseball for the past 28 seasons, is the greatest atmosphere in college baseball. With a capacity of 10,323, Swayze Field holds some of the largest crowds watching college baseball throughout the country on any given day. Ole Miss has ranked top five nationally in attendance in each of the past 10 seasons. Last season, the Rebels averaged 8,579 fans per home game with a total of 291,714 for the entire year. Both marks set new program records. 7

8 8 GAMES AUBURN 8 an SEC Baseball Legend May at the Hoover Met in Hoover, Alabama. Kessinger is the second Rebel to earn the distinction of SEC Baseball Legend, joining 2014 honoree Jake Gibbs. Alongside Kessinger, the 2017 class features LSU s Ben McDonald, Missouri s Dave Silvestri and South Carolina s Earl Bass. Kessinger excelled in both basketball and baseball for the Rebels from , earning All-SEC and All-America honors in both sports. In basketball, he averaged 22.2 points per game to rank fourth in Ole Miss history as well as 11th with 1,553 career points. On the diamond, Kessinger s feats were equally impressive. His.400 career batting average still remains No. 1 in the Ole Miss record book, an effort which is also sixth on the SEC career chart. Kessinger s best year at the plate came in 1964 when he led the SEC by hitting.436, a performance which remains as the best single season effort in Rebel baseball history. His nine career triples and 44 career steals place him 10th on each Ole Miss all-time list. Following a successful collegiate career, Kessinger moved on to Major League Baseball where he put together an impressive 16-year career. He started with the Chicago Cubs in 1964 and played at Wrigley Field until During that time as the Cubs starting shortstop, Kessinger played in six All-Star Games, earned two Gold Glove Awards and set a then-major League record for consecutive errorless games at shortstop with 54 in In his last season in MLB, 1979, Kessinger served as a player-manager for the White Sox. PINCH-HIT PRINCE Although he has only made nine starts this season, redshirt-sophomore Michael Fitzsimmons has come through in clutch moments for the Rebels. As a pinch hitter, Fitzsimmons is 5-for-15 (.333) on the season, driving in the game-winning run on two of those hits. Against Furman (March 12), he came off the bench to knock in the game s only run to help the Rebels secure the shutout victory. On March 28, Fitzsimmons was called upon in the bottom of the 10th; he ripped a single to left field to give Ole Miss a walk-off win over Little Rock. The big hit prompted teammate Nick Fortes to nickname Fitzsimmons the #PinchHitPrince on Twitter. SUCCESS AGAINST TOP-RANKED TEAMS The Rebels are no stranger to facing the nation s best competition. Ole Miss has won 27 games against top-10 teams over the last four seasons, including series victories over No. 1 Louisiana-Lafayette (2014 Super Regional), No. 1 Florida (2015), No. 1 Vanderbilt (2015), No. 2 Louisville (2016), No. 8 LSU (2016), No. 6 East Carolina (2017), No. 8 LSU (2017) and No. 10 Arkansas (2017). MCARTHUR NAMED SEC PITCHER OF THE WEEK Following the best start of his career, James McArthur was named SEC Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. McArthur earned the honor after shutting down No. 10 Arkansas Thursday night (April 27). McArthur won his second SEC weekly accolade of his career. Last year, he was named SEC Freshman of the Week (April 25, 2016) after pitching 11.2 scoreless innings over two appearances. Taking the mound in the series opener at No. 10 Arkansas, McArthur allowed only one hit over a career-high 8.0 innings. Six of those frames were innings. The New Braunsfels, Texas, native faced 27 batters and retired 24 of them, allowing only one walk and a solo home run. He struck out six during his personal-best outing, keeping a good Arkansas offense in check through his eight innings of work. McArthur cruised through the first four innings, sending down 12 of the first 13 hitters. The sophomore only allowed a two-out walk during that stretch. Starting the bottom of the fifth, a solo homer became the only hit surrendered by McArthur. Another walk is the only other baserunner the Razorbacks got throughout the rest of the night as McArthur helped Ole Miss hang on to the lead and secure the victory. In a league with a plethora of talent on the mound, McArthur leads SEC qualified pitchers in opponent batting average (.169). He has only allowed 31 hits in 52.2 innings, which also tops the conference. Through nine starts, McArthur holds a 3-3 record with a 3.08 ERA and 47 strikeouts. WOOLFOLK NAMED TO STOPPER OF THE YEAR WATCH LIST Ole Miss closer Dallas Woolfolk was named to the midseason watch list for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award, the organization announced Wednesday afternoon (April 26). Woolfolk is one of 40 pitchers on the watch list for the award given annually to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball. He is the second Rebel to earn a spot on the midseason watch list in as many years. Last season, southpaw Wyatt Short made the list as the Rebels primary closer. With Short now in the professional ranks with the World Series champion Chicago Cubs organization, Woolfolk burst onto the scene in 2017 to become the go-to reliever at the end of games. As a freshman, Woolfolk was 1-0 with a 2.55 ERA and one save in 18 appearances (17.2 innings). Woolfolk, whose fastball ranges from mph, has been nearly unhittable this season. The Southaven, Mississippi, native holds a 1.19 ERA over a team-high 21 appearances. Along with tallying 34 strikeouts and issuing only three walks, Woolfolk is 3-1 and boasts nine saves as the team s top closer. His nine saves rank third in the SEC as well as 29th nationally. Moreover, the hard-throwing righty has shown that he s more than just a one-inning wonder by recording at least four outs to earn five of his saves. In 30.1 innings, Woolfolk is holding opposing hitters to a team-best.152 batting average. ROLISON EARNS SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK HONORS Following the best start of his career, Ole Miss baseball s Ryan Rolison was named SEC Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday (April 24). Rolison was bumped up one day due to a scratch in the rotation, called upon on the day of the game, and tossed 6.0 scoreless innings toearn a win over Missouri (April 22). Rolison earned the accolades after tallying a career-high nine strikeouts, retiring 14 of the final 16 hitters he faced. He took a no-hit bid to the fifth inning, before Mizzou broke it up with one out. With another SEC victory under his belt, Rolison improved to 5-2 on the season. After leading Ole Miss to a 3-1 victory over the Tigers, Rolison lowered his ERA to 1.88, best among all pitchers in the rotation and fifth among SEC pitchers. WALK-OFF WINS Three of the Rebels wins have come in walk-off fashion. In the bottom of the 10th against Little Rock (March 28), Michael Fitzsimmons broke a 4-4 tie with a

9 9 GAMES AUBURN 9 single to left field to give Ole Miss its first walk-off victory of the season. One week later, the Rebels had another walk-off in extra innings versus No. 17 Southern Miss (April 4). After tying the game in the bottom of the ninth, Ole Miss emerged victorious in the 12th when a wild pitch went to the backstop on an intentional walk. Needing to bat with the Rebels out of position players, freshman pitcher Jason Barber was hit by a pitch to reach base before scoring the winning run. Clinching the weekend series over Alabama (April 8), Tate Blackman belted a 1-1 pitch to left-center in the bottom of the ninth. The moon shot cleared the fence and gave Ole Miss a 5-4 win. REBELS EARN ROAD WIN, SEASON SWEEP OF NO. 16 SOUTHERN MISS Behind 6.0 shutout innings by freshman Greer Holston, Ole Miss took down No. 16 Southern Miss 6-2 Tuesday night at Pete Taylor Park. The Rebels defeated the Golden Eagles for the second time in as many weeks, earning a season sweep over USM for the first time since 2010 and winning in Hattiesburg for the first time in eight years. Holston held one of the nation s best offensive teams without a run and surrendered only two hits during his second start against the Golden Eagles. Southern Miss entered the contest ranked in the top 11 nationally in hits per game (10.9), runs per game (8.0) and home runs (46). Holston, along with reliever Brady Feigl, limited the Golden Eagles to two runs, five hits and without a homer. Feigl pitched the final 3.0 innings, striking out five, to collect the rare three-inning save. BORTLES NAMED SENIOR CLASS AWARD CANDIDATE Ole Miss senior Colby Bortles was recognized as one of 30 candidates for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award in college baseball Monday afternoon. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. Not only is Bortles representing Ole Miss on the list, but he is also the only player from the SEC to be selected as a candidate for the prestigious award. Displaying leadership on and off the field, Bortles is a two-time team captain. He was chosen by his teammates to be team captain for the 2016 season before getting re-elected again this year. From playing in 40 games and earning a start in the 2014 College World Series as a freshman to starting all 62 games last year, Bortles has made his mark on the program. The Oviedo, Florida, native has appeared in 181 games as a Rebel, making 152 starts. Since he arrived on campus, Bortles has been active in the Oxford community. For the past four years, he has participated in the Reading with the Rebels program, through which he reads children s books to local elementary students. Looking towards life after baseball, Bortles is currently interning with the Batesville Police Department as he pursues a degree in criminal justice. IT ALL STARTS WITH PITCHING Beginning with a midweek game against Georgia State (March 7), Ole Miss starting pitching went the next seven games without allowing a run. Until Vanderbilt scored a run in the top of the fourth during game two (March 18), Rebel starters combined to pitch 52.2 scoreless innings. During the streak, 69 strikeouts were recorded while only 28 hits and 19 walks were allowed. The impressive stretch helped the entire Ole Miss staff pitch six shutouts, including a school-record five in a row. SHUTOUT STREAK For the first time in program history, Ole Miss posted shutouts in five straight games. To begin the streak, the Rebels held Furman, a team with a combined batting average of.317, scoreless for the entire weekend to earn their third three-game sweep of the 2017 season. Keeping the Paladins without a run (March 10-12), the Rebels posted a three-game series shutout for the first time since March 12-14, 2004, coincidentally vs. Nicholls. Continuing the streak, Ole Miss shut out Nicholls 5-0 (March 14) in Biloxi, Mississippi. Coming back to Swayze Field and kicking off SEC play, the Rebels took down No. 15 Vanderbilt 1-0 (March 17). Before the Commodores broke the streak during the second game of the series, Ole Miss pitched tossed 48.2 consecutive scoreless frames, surrendering just 16 hits and issuing 14 walks. Meanwhile, the Rebels added 53 strikeouts and held opposing hitters to a.104 batting average. PARKINSON NAMED SEC PITCHER OF THE WEEK Following the best start of his career, Ole Miss ace David Parkinson was named SEC Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced March 13. Pitching a careerlong 8.0 scoreless innings versus Furman (March 10), the junior left-hander earned his first weekly accolade as a Rebel. Parkinson became the second Rebel to earn an SEC weekly honor through the first four weeks of the season. Ryan Olenek was the SEC Player of the Week after opening weekend. Prior to Parkinson, the last Rebel to be named SEC Pitcher of the Week was Wyatt Short (May 11, 2015). Kicking off the weekend, Parkinson got the Rebels off to a perfect start by pitching a gem. Against a team hitting.317 heading into the weekend, the Henrico, Virginia, native struck out a career-high nine hitters and did not issue a walk during his longest outing as a Rebel. Moreover, he had a no hitter intact until a leadoff single to center in the eighth inning. Parkinson faced the minimum as the Furman baserunner was wiped off the base patch on a groundball double play. As the team s ace, Parkinson is 3-1 with a 2.52 ERA this season through four starts. He has recorded 26 strikeouts, ranked 10th among conference pitchers, while only walking five in 25.0 innings of work. The southpaw is holding opponents to a.198 batting average to help the Ole Miss pitching staff pace the conference in that category. COOPER JOHNSON NAMED TO JOHNNY BENCH AWARD WATCH LIST Ole Miss freshman Cooper Johnson was named to the watch list for the 2017 Johnny Bench Award, one of 85 catchers nominated for the award given annually to the top catcher in Division I baseball. Johnson, the top-ranked catcher out of high school last season, has earned the starting nod behind the dish in his first season as a Rebel. Making 13 starts through the first 16 games of the season, the Mundelein, Illinois, native has thrown out six baserunners (four caught stealing, two pickoffs). With only eight attempted stolen bases against Ole Miss so far (second-fewest in the SEC), opponents have been wary of the freshman s strong arm. The tradition of great catchers at Ole Miss is well known, especially over recent history. Stuart Turner won the Johnny Bench Award in One year later, Will Allen was an All-American catcher as a 2014 Johnny Bench Award finalist. As a first team All-SEC catcher, Henri Lartigue made the cut of semifinalists in With a coaching staff filled with guys who played the position, expectations of Rebel catchers are always lofty. Head coach Mike Bianco was a catcher at LSU, while

10 assistant coaches Carl Lafferty and Mike Clement also started behind the plate during their playing days. GAMES AUBURN 10 BORTLES NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM In one of the most prestigious tournaments in the country, senior Colby Bortles was named to the all-tournament team for the 2017 Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic. The Oviedo, Florida, native managed the hot corner all weekend long, while hitting.300 at the plate. Against No. 10 Texas Tech, Bortles helped turn a quick double play with the bases loaded to keep the Red Raiders off the scoreboard. The next day, facing No. 1 TCU, he belted a two-run blast over the railroad tracks of Minute Maid Park for his team-leading third home run of the season. LUCKY NUMBER 7 Facing two ranked teams that made the postseason in 2016 along with having a young team on paper, it looked as if life would be tough for the Rebels through the first two weeks of the season. While it wasn t been easy, Ole Miss took care of business and jumped out to a 7-0 record for the eighth time in program history. The last time the Rebels started 7-0 was in 2013 when Memphis handed them their first loss of the season. Under Mike Bianco, Ole Miss also started 2004 and 2008 winning at least the first seven games of the year. The Rebels claimed the first nine games of the 2008 campaign, while winning a school-record 11 straight to begin the 2004 season. ATTENDANCE RECORDS With the combination of the No. 1 recruiting class, returning veterans and a top-10 team coming to town, the start of the 2017 season was highly anticipated by Rebel Nation. The Ole Miss faithful came out in record numbers throughout the weekend, starting with Opening Day. A single-game Swayze Field record of 12,117 watched Ole Miss knock off No. 6 East Carolina 5-4 in game one. The following day, 11,494 fans saw the Rebels clinch the series with another one-run win; that crowd was the third-highest in Swayze Field history. Closing out the weekend, Ole Miss brought out the brooms for an 8-6 victory in front of 9,459. The three-day total of 33,070 set another Swayze Field record for attendance during a series, breaking the previous mark of 29,646 for the 2009 NCAA Super Regional. FRESHMAN FIREARMS In the first midweek game of the season, four freshmen dazzled on the mound in a 16-4 thumping of Arkansas State Tuesday night at Swayze Field. The young quartet of Will Ethridge, Houston Roth, Ryan Rolison and Greer Holston combined for 19 strikeouts, the most by an Ole Miss pitching staff since April 10, 2015 (6-5 win in a 16-inning game at No. 1 Vanderbilt) and the most in a nine-inning game since Feb. 22, 2008 (school record 21 vs. Minnesota). Making his debut, Ethridge mowed down the Red Wolves. He recorded 10 strikeouts, the most by an Ole Miss freshman since Justin Cryer accomplished the feat in 2007 and the most in an Ole Miss debut this century. Roth, another freshman making his first appearance as a Rebel, struck out five over 2.0 scoreless innings of work. Rolison and Holston closed out the contest with one inning apiece, keeping ASU off the scoreboard. HOW SWEEP IT IS! As the only top-10 matchup in the country on opening weekend, the Rebels knew they had a tall task in facing No. 6 East Carolina and former Ole Miss assistant Cliff Godwin. However, behind a mix of newcomers and veterans, Ole Miss swept the Pirates in three close games. Freshmen Thomas Dillard and Cole Zabowski along with veterans Will Golsan and Ryan Olenek hit over.400 throughout the weekend to lead the Rebels at the plate. Meanwhile, the bullpen limited ECU to two runs over a combined 10.2 innings. The sweep marked the first time the Rebels defeated a top-10 opponent in three straight games since April 24-25, 2010 versus No. 5 LSU. OLENEK NAMED SEC PLAYER OF THE WEEK After helping lead the Ole Miss baseball team to a sweep over No. 6 East Carolina to begin the 2017 season, sophomore center fielder Ryan Olenek was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week. Hitting.462 throughout the weekend, Olenek earned a weekly award for the first time in his young Rebel career. Olenek spent most of his freshman season as the Rebels starting right fielder, but he was called upon to move to center field this year following All-American J.B. Woodman getting selected in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He also moved to the top of the order on opening weekend. However, filling the shoes of an All-American and becoming more of a prominent piece of the lineup did not faze Olenek. Starting all three games in center field, Olenek went 6-for-13 with two doubles over the weekend, recording at least one hit in each game. Batting second in the season opener, he ripped a double down the first base line for the Rebels first hit of the season before coming around to score the first run of the 2017 campaign as well. The Winter Springs, Florida, native went 3-for-4 with a double to lead the team in a 5-4 victory. Batting in the leadoff spot for the first time in his career, Olenek put together another multi-hit game and plated one run in Saturday s 3-2 win. Wrapping up the weekend, the Rebels trailed by four in the middle of the sixth of Sunday s season finale. Ole Miss bounced back in the bottom half of the frame, and Olenek placed the cherry on top of a five-run inning. The sophomore smacked the game-winning two-run double that gave the Rebels the lead for good to complete the sweep. OLE MISS DEBUTS Eleven Rebels made their debuts on opening weekend: IF Bryce Blaum (pinch runner, Feb. 18), IF Chase Cockrell, (designated hitter, Feb. 17), OF Thomas Dillard (left field, Feb. 17), RHP Greer Holston (relief pitcher, Feb. 19), C Cooper Johnson (catcher, Feb. 17), IF Grae Kessinger (shortstop, Feb. 17), C Carson Klepzig (pinch runner, Feb. 19), LHP Ryan Rolison (relief pitcher, Feb. 19), OF Tim Rowe (pinch hitter, Feb. 19), OF Bryan Seamster (pinch runner, Feb. 17) and IF Cole Zabowski (first base, Feb. 17). Five newcomers earned starts on Opening Day: Cockrell, Dillard, Johnson, Kessinger and Zabowski. 6,000 SEASON TICKETS SOLD...AND COUNTING! 11 GAMES AUBURN 11 ball season ticket holders grew to more than 6,000 and counting, snapping the mark of 5,877 last season. That number is more than the average attendance of every college baseball team in nationwide, aside from four schools. All five schools with an average attendance more than 6,000 in 2016 are in the Southeastern Conference. Ole Miss currently has 6,218 season ticket holders. BORTLES NAMED PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN, ALL-SEC Entering the final year of his Ole Miss career, third baseman Colby Bortles was named a third team Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball and Preseason All-SEC by the conference s coaches. From playing in 40 games and earning a start in the 2014 College World Series as a freshman to starting all 62 games last year, he has made his mark on the program. The Oviedo, Florida, native has appeared in 158 games through the first three seasons as a Rebel, making 129 starts. As a.272 career hitter, Bortles has been known for his power at the dish with 34 doubles and 17 home runs. In 2016, Bortles led the Rebels in doubles with 21, ranking second in the Southeastern Conference as well as fifth in Ole Miss history for a single season. As a team captain, he helped Ole Miss to a record that included 18 SEC wins and hosting the team s seventh NCAA Regional in the last 13 years. He produced 14 multi-rbi games leading to a season total of 50 that was 15th among SEC hitters. After hitting seven homers as a sophomore, Bortles belted eight last season to go along with a.475 slugging percentage. BLACKMAN EARNS PRESEASON ALL-SEC HONORS Alongside Bortles, second baseman Tate Blackman was chosen as a Preseason All-SEC honoree as well. Blackman had a breakout season a year ago, hitting.322 to earn second team All-SEC accolades. Last year, the Altamonte Springs, Florida, native started all 62 games at second base and put together 21 multi-hit contests. He also led the conference in sacrifice flies with seven, a mark that ranked 19th nationally. Blackman finished the 2016 campaign with 74 hits, 48 runs, 38 RBI, 13 doubles and three home runs. Through two seasons as a Rebel, Blackman has appeared in 101 games with a.278 career batting average. He s a two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll as a criminal justice major. STOKES NAMED TO STOPPER OF THE YEAR WATCH LIST Ole Miss closer Will Stokes was named to the preseason watch list for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award. Stokes is the second Rebel to earn a spot on the watch list in as many years. Last season, southpaw Wyatt Short made the preseason and midseason lists as the Rebels primary closer. With Short now in the professional ranks with the World Series champion Chicago Cubs organization, Stokes becomes the go-to reliever at the end of games. However, it is a role that he held at times throughout the 2016 campaign. As a sophomore, Stokes tied a school record with 30 relief appearances throughout the season. That mark also ranked fifth among relievers in the Southeastern Conference. The Meridian, Mississippi, native went 2-1 with seven saves and a 2.93 ERA over 43.0 innings as a solid piece to the 2016 Ole Miss bullpen. The junior also recorded 40 strikeouts while walking just seven and holding opponents to a.228 batting average. RETURNING REBELS The Rebels return 17 players from last season s team, including five starting position players. Alongside preseason all-conference infielders Colby Bortles and Tate Blackman, other returners feature junior Kyle Watson and sophomore Ryan Olenek, a pair of infielders who have used their athletic abilities to convert to the outfield. Olenek will move from right field to center field following All-American J.B. Woodman getting selected in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft. A new addition to the outfield is a veteran who will be switching positions for a third time in as many seasons. From playing second base as a freshman and first base as a sophomore, Will Golsan makes the transition to right field in Redshirt-sophomore Michael Fitzsimmons, who started as a designated hitter last year, will battle junior college transfer Chase Cockrell and incoming freshman Cole Zabowski for the nod at first base. Following whoever wins the job, the other two could see action at DH. Back on the mound, the Rebels return nine arms, including three Freshman All-Americans. Two of those Freshmen All-Americans, Brady Feigl and James McArthur, earned spots in the weekend rotation. The other Freshman All-American, Andy Pagnozzi, will be an important piece of the Ole Miss staff after recording eight wins out of the bullpen last season. With two sophomores holding a pair of spots in the rotation, junior David Parkinson will take over the role as the team s ace. Two more sophomores that expect to see a lot of innings out of the bullpen are Connor Green and Dallas Woolfolk, who recorded the two lowest ERAs on the team in They ll be relied on to set up the game for Will Stokes, who becomes the primary closer. TEAM CAPTAINS Team captains for this season s team are senior third baseman Colby Bortles and junior second baseman Tate Blackman. Bortles is a captain for the secondstraight season, while Blackman will officially help lead the Rebels for the first time in his career. The captains were selected from a vote by the team. WELCOME THE NATION S NO. 1 RECRUITING CLASS The 2016 Ole Miss Baseball recruiting class came to campus arguably the best class in program history. That opinion became fact after Baseball America and D1Baseball.com ranked Ole Miss first in their respective recruiting rankings during the offseason. The top ranking marked the first No. 1 recruiting class in Ole Miss Athletics history. All 17 members of the recruiting class, including four selected in the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft, decided to continue their careers at Ole Miss. The class consists of 15 freshmen and two junior college transfers, including four freshmen hailing from Oxford. The accolades of the incoming class are second to none. Seven earned All-America accolades last year and six were named in the top-500 draft prospects in the country. The Rebels brought in five freshmen who were ranked among the top-100 high school baseball players, more than any other school nationwide. Several newcomers also competed in prestigious all-star games during their high school careers. Five competed in the East Coast Professional Showcase, three participated in the Area Code Games and a trio of Rebels played in the Under Armour All-America Game at Wrigley Field. Two Rebs even won a gold medal at the 18-and-under World Cup as a member of Team USA. Below are some of the accolades of the incoming class: 11
