Warn criminals that they will be seen. Access crime statistics. Promote a sense of community in the neighborhood. Benefits From a Community Based neighborhood Watch Program: A reduction in crime in the community. Neighborhood Watch signs deter criminals. Provides news about the community. Provides a direct contact with the police. Police receive information about the neighborhood. Neighbors get to know each other. To get started, it takes one motivated individual, concerned citizens and the police. Contact your neighbors and see if there is an interest in the community for a program. Hold a meeting to identify issues and concerns that affect the whole community. At the same time select a coordinator and those who would like to volunteer to be block captains.
