1 Falcon Dance New York, New York
2 Mission Human nature manifests through thought, sense, perception, and action. It's naturally imposed on each of us, and it speaks honestly. Layers of culture and social influence blur the lines, but our innate qualities are always present. As a company, we believe that movement is the closest link to humanity and the characteristics in which it is encompassed. We explore relationships, experiences, and thought to investigate how human nature can be regarded as a source of norms, as well as a constraint on life. The work is drawn to vulnerability and risk, mending subtly with expansion, athleticism with artistry, and humanity with ingenuity. The breadth of the work is within the through-line where movement becomes meaning, and that meaning becomes an honest and distinctive statement. As a group who believes art can transcend, sparking change and positive communication, we make longer work to live in and grow with us. With each self produced show, we try to give back by donating a percentage of our ticket sales to a worthy cause. "I see energy moving across an open space, rhythm personifying on a blank canvas, and the architecture of relationships. I find that my movement is highly driven by momentum, gravity, and the control of complete abandonment. There is a circularity or continuity in the way I interweave bodies. Even in stillness I feel movement continues. Although I ve been told my movement feels highly organic, there is a roundabout way I like to investigate movement initiation through redirecting energy in an unexpected pattern. I essentially like the challenge of reinventing the wheel and taking the path of most resistance. However, no matter how abstract or inventive I become I always bring it back to humanity. The vulnerability of human expression and possibility exhilarates me. I always want to know who you are and how to move you; have I moved you?" Brit Falcon, AD Photo by Scott Shaw
3 Collaborators Emily Diers - Performer & Rehearsal Director Emily Diers (Rehearsal Director) is a native to the Chicagoland area, where she began her dance training at Denise Sabala Dance Studio and Giordano Dance Center. She was the recipient of The Rose L. Strasser Dance Award, the Friars Foundation Award, and attended the Bates Dance Festival on Scholarship. During her senior year she was nominated for the School of Arts and Performance Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award Since graduating Brit has been named The Muse Brooklyn s Presenting Artist in Residence, the NYU Gallatin DCA spring semester Artist in Residence, and the New Dance Collective 2017 guest artist. She was also recently awarded a three-week Emerging Choreographer's Residency at the 2017 Bates Dance Festival. Caroline is a founding manager of House of YES - an art, performance, and nightlife collective & venue based in Bushwick. Kala Seidenberg - Performer Kala Seidenberg received her early training at Academy of Dance Arts and Columbia City Jazz Company in Columbia, South Carolina. She earned degrees from Emory University in Dance and Movement Studies as well as Educational Studies. At Emory she had opportunities to work with guest artists such as Blake Beckham, T. Lang, and Kyle Abraham. After graduation, she started her professional career dancing for Staibdance, Catellier Dance Projects, and Emily Christianson in Atlanta, Georgia, while also teaching dance for the arts non-profit, Moving in the Spirit. Her choreographic work has been presented by Dance Truck (in a truck!), Spelman College (on a stage!), Emory University, and Waxworks. She is also an early childhood dance educator, and loves moving and creating with the smallest of dancers at the JCC Manhattan as well as in various public schools with New York City Ballet s inschool residency program. She is thrilled to perform as a member of Falcon Dance. Amadi Washington - Performer Hailing from the Bronx in NYC, Amadi Washington began dancing at age nine. Early on he was exposed to African dance, and that foundation has deeply influenced his passion for exploring the range of dynamic physicality embedded in all forms of movement. As a student at the College of Wooster Amadi graduated with Honors, a B.A. in Theatre and Dance, and was the 2013 recipient of the Urlene F. Brown scholarship for the performing arts. Upon graduating he moved back to the Bronx and immediately began teaching dance and coaching sports teams at The Dalton School. He is a performer, choreographer, and educator. Photos by Scott Shaw

6 Teaching Philosophy & Approach Photo by Sasha Charoensub As a company we relish in physical and mental challenges that push our potential as artists and humans. Each class is an opportunity to generate a deeper connection with ourselves and our students. We believe in learning from everyone in the room as everyone has a unique and poignant voice, deserving of an open and attentive listener. We champion risk by nurturing a supportive and safe environment which allows us to be vulnerable and make mistakes. We don t take things too seriously and the jokes are always flowing. Everything is a Yes or a Sure, let s try it! because it s the curiosity, and endless investigation that keeps us pushing forward. Each class is a chance for us to reflect, learn, and grow in order to better ourselves as educators, mentors, and peers. Modern/Contemporary Technique This class is a chameleon which continuously rediscovers itself. Always striving to gain a deeper connection to ourselves, we will become grounded physically and spiritually. As we cultivate a healing practice for our body, we will bring attention to personal unwanted movement patterns, and work to increase the body's capacity for change. Our partnerships to the floor, gravity, and time will be redefined. We will push to embody material quickly, move with speed and adaptability, and explore internal and external rhythms. As we gain stability, we gain mobility; as we gain control, we gain freedom; as we gain clarity, we gain risk. We will do all this while continuously being reminded of the joy of movement and sweet jams! Contact Improvisation & Partnering A successful partnership comes from trust, vulnerability, instinct, and breathe. Whether we are partnering with another person or simply with the space around us, we cannot truly communicate without first letting go; letting go of expectations, letting go of our fears, and letting go of physical comparisons. In this class we will work to truly be in the moment and trust ourselves, championing risk and reward. Through a series of gradual guided improvisations, we will generate heat, awareness, availability, and stability in order to safely give and receive weight. Each class will follow a different theme that we feel is essential to creating a successful partnership. We will experiment Photo by Scott Shaw with these themes through group exercises and improvisational scores. The culmination of the class will focus on building composed partnerships as a duo, trio, or quartet.
