1 GWWRFC The season picks up speed University of Delaware October 2014 On Saturday, September, 27 th, the GWWRFC ladies travelled to the University of Delaware. Unfortunately, several players were sick with a cold, making it difficult to play at the top of their game. The very warm and sunny weather was refreshing at first, but the heat did make the match challenging. This game was the last one before Matrix matches start, so the team used it to test out different line-ups and plays, as well as some girls playing new positions. The game ended in a tie, with a score of All-stars of the game were Molly Mercer, Elena Clark, and Antonia Keutzer; nice job ladies! Thanks to our fans that came out to support us, the Peterson s and the Marx s, we really appreciate it!

2 Salisbury University On a beautiful, sunny Saturday afternoon, GWWRFC headed to Salisbury University to play in their first Matrix match of the season. On this day, the Salisbury team was holding a fundraiser for breast cancer. The GW girls wore pink laces on their cleats to show their support. The late kickoff of 1:30pm didn t stop the team from coming out hard at the first whistle, but as the game went on, the cohesion started to slip. The plays became frantic, and mental focus started to slip. Despite the score, GW stayed positive and picked each other up, emotionally and physically. The final score was 36-10, Salisbury being the victor. While the end result was not preferable for GW, the girls now know what they need to work on to prepare for their next Matrix match against Towson on October 11 th. 3 An Interview with the team s captains Antonia (Tone) Keutzer Hometown: Littleton, Massachusetts Major: Physics Position: Inside Center Fun Fact: She will be spending this week in Hawaii for a physics conference What are your thoughts about the Salisbury It showed us what we need to work on and it showed us that not every team is going to be an easy team. It wasn t our best game, but hopefully we will learn from it and bring it next weekend. What do you think we need to work on? Staying passionate throughout the whole game and not let another team get into our heads and break us down. What do you want to happen in the Towson I want us to come out strong from the first whistle, play together, and play with the intensity I know we can. What s your team goal for this semester? To learn form this weekend and not let it happen again. To fight to win, and to make it to Nationals! Elena Clark Hometown: Sunnyville, California Major: Exercise Science (aka Rugby!) Position: Outside Center Fun Fact: She shaved off half her hair once and drew rugby pictures on it What are your thoughts about the Salisbury It s always tough to lose, but I think it was an important step to becoming a better team. I m excited to see the team grow from it and come out better next week. What do you think the team needs to work on? Confidence in ourselves as a unit. We have a confidence in ourselves, and of others, but not as one entity. What do you want to happen in the Towson I want us to have fire, and not accept anything but the very best from each and every one of ourselves. What s your team goal for this semester? I want us to be able to look back at this season and know that we gave 100% and that we are proud of what we did. 3
