Just look at our November schedule of events!! But unlike what I predicted last month, our first event will not be the car show at the AJ Art Festival of the Superstitions but the AJ Veterans Day Parade. Lynn and I will host a pot luck lunch at our house after the parade. The club will furnish the meat for cooking on the Lazy Lizzie s Kitchen. Bring your favorite dish to share. We finally got a no answer to our request to visit the Pratte Museum during the MTFCA Meeting. The committee now will have to decide what alternative we want to schedule and make appropriate arrangements. We will finalize what the ladies activity will be after discussions at our November meeting. The decision has been made that we will have our Christmas Party/Meeting on 12 December at the Landmark Restaurant in Mesa. Remember we will be electing a President and Secretary at this meeting. If you want to be considered for either of these positions or want to nominate someone, nominations will be taken and election finalized during the meeting. LOCAL CLUB EVENTS 11 November AJ Veterans Day Parade. We will assemble at the Graton s and travel as a group to the parade site. We will leave for the parade site at 9:00 AM. After the parade we will return to the Graton s for a pot luck lunch. The Club will furnish the drinks and meat to be cooked on Lazy Lizzie s Kitchen. Bring your favorite dish to share. If you need refrigeration you can leave it in the
3 Graton s refrigerator during the parade November Car Show. We will be participating in a car show at the AJ Art Festival of the Superstitions at the Cantral Arizona College. This is a two day art and cultural festival that is in it s fourth year. The campus is located just east if Idaho Rd. on Old West Highway. We would like to have participation on both days. There will be a food court as well as about 35 artist booths. This event is also advertised on TV. There is an entertainment stage with continuous live entertainment. There is a concert on Sunday afternoon by Pioneer Pepper and the Sunset Pioneers. We would like to have some attendance both days. This should be a fun event. We should arrive by 8:30 AM Saturday and 9:30 Sunday. Check out their website at m. 28 November tour of Shamrock Dairy in Casa Grande. Details to be provided at the 19 Nov General Meeting. OTHER LOCAL EVENTS Car Show at Pinal County Fairgrounds on January 30 during the Bluegrass Jamboree. Meridian Rd, Mesa. Open at 5:00 AM, $10.00 per space. There is no charge for buyers. General Meeting Refreshments Refreshments will be provided by: November - Linneys January - Gratons Future Events and Tours To all members - make your desires known - sponsor an event - you don t have to do it alone, there are others who are willing to help. Think up something fun you want to do and let the rest of us enjoy it with you!! NATIONAL EVENTS MTFCA National Tour August 1-6, 2010 Whitefish Montana. The Montana Majestic Mountain T Tour will be hosted by the Rocky Mountain Model T Club. Contact Mike Cuffe, PO Box 1685, Eureka, MT Phone mmmtt2010@interbel.net. Membership in the Model T Ford Club of America As a Chapter of the Model T Ford Club of America at least 50% of our members must be members of the national club to keep our free insurance. Our club is doing very well in this regard, as almost all of our members belong to the national club. Are your dues paid up?? If your MTFCA member number is not listed on the roster, please call Austin with the number. The number is shown on your mailing label when you receive your Vintage Ford magazine. Health and Welfare of Members Bill Allen is back at his NH home after being hospitalized for not being able to urinate due to a swollen prostate. The Allen s plan to be back in AZ by 15 November will be delayed due to his condition.
4 RECIPE OF THE MONTH By Lynn Graton We asked for this recipe after we were treated to some of these pickles during lunch on a vintage auto Fall Foliage Tour in NH and VT. SWEET CUCUMBER PICKLES First Day - Peel and seed 3 quarts (about 12 pounds) of large (those beyond eating - don t have to be yellow though) cucumbers. Cut into chunks. Cover with water. Cook about 10 minutes to start - do not overcook - until you can just prick them with a fork. Drain well. Make the brine: 7 cups sugar (3 lbs) ¼ tsp oil of clove* 2 cups vinegar ½ tsp oil of cinnamon* Mix brine ingredients, bring to a boil and cook five minutes. Pour over cucumbers and let stand over night. Second Day - drain off brine syrup and heat it to a boil. Pour back over the cukes. Let stand over night. Third Day - Cut ½ an orange and ½ a lemon into slices and combine with ½ a small jar of drained, halved, maraschino cherries. Divide them between your 3 quart jars. Heat pickles in their brine syrup. Pour into the jars and seal. This recipe can be doubled. Yield approx three quarts. *Find in health food or drug stores or use: 6 sticks of cinnamon and 3 Tbsp of whole cloves tied in cheese cloth. Discard spices before canning the pickles. CLASSIFIED ADVERTISING FOR SALE: 7-pc. Ts.. Kinkade miniature village with certif. of authenticity: $100; full set of Franciscan ware Hacienda Green dinnerware, 8-pc.
