This letter, the website, and Face Book and our base are the only means we have to get the word out to the folks that are interested in traditional music and beyond! Read on for past reflections, announcements and new calendar. December Reflections: It seems like it was a long time ago that we hosted our student Christmas Holiday Concert! So much happens in one month, especially around the Holidays. The student concert had a bit of everything; some tremendous solo features and quite a variety of styles. The high energy audience participation and a huge packed in like sardines orchestra was quite a force to kick in the spirit of Christmas! Fiddles, mandolins, guitars, banjos, a bodhran drum and a bass. Also joining us for the first time was Eamonn, our Irish whistle instructor and his Irish whistle class! It was a warm & heartfelt gathering. The meaning of Christmas was felt throughout the concert and with fellowship at the reception. Drive Through Bethlehem (right behind Fiddle & Pick) twas a wet rainy night; but no one seemed to mind. Everyone stayed the course of the mission. Gabriel, Mary, Joseph, the animals, the shepherds, Kings, soldiers and more! The camel kept putting his head under the porch awning to get out of the rain (where I was one of the Angels) I was so amazed by his big brown eye and long eyelashes! I only could see one side. He would sniff the vanilla candles and sniff the Angels and go back out in the rain. I was right next to him and it awesome to be so close to one of God s most unique creatures! The food drive was very successful and many cars full of people saw the beautiful journey of the story. Other special seasonal events The WONDER at the LAND was a fun first year event. Tim and I loved jamming with the pickers, especially the talented kids! It was a neat community event. Hope to go again next year watch the how the concept of The LAND will grow I can feel it. Great job Leslie! Tim & Gret enjoyed playing the Warner Park Winter Solstice gathering. Weather was not great but the activities were fun and we enjoyed great acoustic sound in the atrium. Saw so many friends there passing by! Thank you Kathy Shaw for putting our name in the hat for the gig! The infamous EG Smith and the Spontaneous Mountain Boyz Christmas Spectacle was on fire for the Fun-Way! We had a full house & lots of belly laughin and prizes! The next day, Tim & Gretchen played service music at the First Baptist Church of Pegram. Gret & Tim also were invited to play with the SMBz Bluegrass Christmas Eve service at The Kingston Springs Methodist Church. I LOVE Christmas lights, and finally had a window of a chance to drive by Christmas lights and spend a little time with dear friends, Doug & Karen. Christmas Day we flew to family gathering in Minnesota where it was rainy and slushy but inside was warm and comfy. Making Kieflie cookies with my nieces and Sister Sarah was very special! Sis booked Tim & Gret to play our PLAIDGRASS music at the Spiral Brewery in downtown Hastings. Fun place! Travis, my brother in law hooked up the sound and dialed us in. My parents have been through a lot

2 these past few years and they were able to sit right in front of us. This really made it the greatest Christmas! Thank you God for everything! This letter will be late, as there were more important life issues then being on time with the making of a newsletter. I mean well, and I wish all a Happy & Great New Year! Back to the real world and that s alright! HAPPY NEW YEAR! Announcements: There is going to be an event for The Musical Heritage Center at the Fiddle & Pick. It is going to be a fundraiser for the Center and its programs; including our outreach programs. One of the parents, Eliza, had approached me with wonderful ideas and it is in the works immediately! Its going to be BIG and fun and a variety of activities. I am so thankful; we do not have grants or anything like that. By the grace of God we have been open just over 10 yrs. T-shirts, silent auction items, jams, performances and surprises! Please make note of two dates: FEB 16 Sat (likely start mid day and not be a late night) FEB 23 is our plan B (if weather is such we would need the plan B) We are looking for a team of helpers to do small jobs. We have a team meeting coming up on Jan 5 at 12:30 if you would like to help. EOJ is right around the corner Jan 10,11,12 (Th-Sat). Registration is long closed. The most informal Thurs night Instructor concert is open to the public for just $15 (the concert is included with registration); All are invited to bring instruments to participate in the Old-Time Jam after the show. Beverages and hors d oeuvres are on the house! (Note that there is limited seating as the folks that are registered for the weekend will have reserved the first seats). Doors open 6:30. Registered folks should claim their seat before 6:30. We cannot hold seats for each person registered. On Sat Jan 19, The Nashville Pipe & Drum host Connections Concert to be held in an auditorium at David Lipscomb University. Joining the program is the sounds of PLAIDGRASS featuring Gretchen Priest, Tim May, Alan O Bryant and special feature with Kathy Chiavola! Proceeds go to The Nashville Pipe & Drum (Save the date; see flyer ad) Fiddle Camp on location! Dates: Jan 24,25,26 Paducah Bed & Breakfast. SLOWJAMMERS NIGHT continues too! See attachment for the updated KIDS Jam night schedule and also SLOWJAMMERS NIGHT All Ages Jam. Text Gretchen (before you drive over) if weather is bad; to be sure the jam is still on for safe travel! IRISH Whistle classes with Eamonn will be starting later in January. Text Gret if you are interested in learning to play authentic Irish whistle from Eamonn, who is from Belfast, Ireland. (2 whistle class might be on Wed nights ; an intermediate and a beginner class) BUCKDANCING with Hillary Klug! Learn this tradional style of dancing from a National Champion! Text Gret Ongoing Classes: Saturday Fiddle Class with Gretchen (intermediate to advanced) a newer players class will be forming this winter. Jazz classes: Our regular Tues Jazz Class (advanced), taught by Paul Abrams on Tues nights. Beginning Jazz : Beginning Jazz with Stan Lawrence $15 per week (Meeting Thursdays weekly 6:00-7:00pm) check with Stan before driving out as this is a busy season of cheer. March 11 MONDAY 7:00 pm The Nashville Irish Trio plays Erin United Methodist Church in Erin TN Nashville Irish Trio is Gretchen Priest on fiddle & tenor banjo, Eamonn Dillon on pipes and whistle, and Robert Johnson on guitar & Bouzouki.
