1 Campus Highlights and Events Form - Date Campus Mission High School Submitted by Edilberto Flores 1 Highlights Forty-seven athletes from Mission CISD competed in the Area 1-Special Olympics Texas Basketball Competition on Saturday February 17, at Sharyland Pioneer High School. Our athletes competed, interacted, and cheered along with twenty-one other schools and agencies from around the region. The competition was broken down into two events: Basketball Individuals Skills and Team Competition. For the individual skills competition the athletes performed a timed 10-meter dribble, a target pass drill, and a spot shooting drill. As for the team competition, there were 8 teams total and competed in a round robin tournament. Basketball Individuals Skills results are as follows: Mission High School Vianney Campos (1st Place), Marcus Eguia (3rd Place), Brandon Garza (2nd Place), Carlos A. Gutierrez (1st Place), Ramiro Olivarez (1st Place), Jaqueline Porcayo (3rd Place), Adrian Rodriguez (3rd Place), Raylene Vela (2nd Place), and Ana Villarreal (1st Place), Noah Flores (1st Place), Jesus Trejo (4th Place) Team Competition (5-on-5 Tournament) Team received 3rd Place in their bracket and consisted of players from Mission High School, Veteran s Memorial High School, and J-White Jr. High. #53- Sebastian Llamas (VMHS) #4- Hector Sanchez (VMHS) #63- Armando Sanchez (MHS) #9- Frankie Villalobos (MHS) #1- Javier Patino (MHS)
2 #21- Bryan Arrellano (VMHS) #5- Julian Rodriguez (K-White Jr. High) #12- Joel Bravo (MHS) #10- Ashley De La Rosa (MHS) #7- Jesus Torres (VMHS) #15- Hayleen Pena (VMHS) #6 Nicolas Juarez (VMHS) #22- Pedro Trevino (VMHS) #25- Ethan Linares (VMHS) 2 Congratulations to our Mighty Mission Eagles Wrestling Regional Qualifiers. Wrestlers attended the Regional Wrestling Tournament in San Antonio on Friday-Saturday, February to compete for the right to represent Mission High School and themselves in the state meet at Houston. Reaching the state finals were AJJuarez, placing 2 nd in the tournament, Briana Gomez, placing 4 th in the girls division, and Victor Gutierrez, placing 5 th and qualifying as alternate. We are proud of the wrestling team. We wish our student athletes, Coach Mann, and Coach J. Rodriguez, the BEST OF EAGLES LUCK!!!!!!
3 3 CONGRATULATIONS to our dedicated UIL competitors and their coaches who competed at the Edinburg North UIL Invitational this past Saturday. Gabriel Rodriguez took 2 nd place in 9 th grade Calculators, 6 th place in 9 th grade Mathematics, and 8 th place in Number Sense. Lisa Garza took 8 th place in 9 th grade Calculators and 8 th place in 9 th grade Mathematics. Diana Gamez took 5 th place and Perla Del Angel took 7 th place in Spelling and Vocabulary. Ruben Cantu took 4 th place in Accounting, veteran division, and Leslie Rivera placed 6 th and Luis Munoz placed 9 th in novice division. Overall, the accounting team took 3 rd place. Marco Flores took 6 th place in Persuasive speaking. Ashmin Torrez took 6 th place in Computer Applications. Congratulations to these students and the following coaches: Mrs. R. Cantu, Mr. R. Ocana, Mrs. F. Guerrero, Ms. G. Gonzalez, Mr. J. Salinas, Mr. R. Castillo, Ms. I. Rodriguez, Mr. A. Salinas, and Ms. D. Guerra. The teams are finalizing preparations for the District 30-6A meet coming up in March
4 4 Our Mission Eagles Golf Team competed at the RGVGCA Invitational tournament in McAllen this past weekend and finished in 2 nd place. Members of the Varsity Girls team are Seniors Laryssa Fuentes and Miriam Ibarra, Junior Mia Lerma, and Sophomores Christine Deanda and Miranda Neagle. Special congratulations goes out to Mia Lerma for placing 3 rd out of 50 players in the individual competition by shooting a 3 under par 69 the 2 nd day. The Varsity Boys team also played in the event and placed 7 th out of 13 teams. Members of the team are Seniors Adrian Garza and Jahaziel Garcia, Junior Hugo Lopez, and Sophomores Daniel Rodriguez and Efrain Zamora. The Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys next tournament is in San Antonio on March 2-3. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EAGLES!!!!! 5 The JV Lady Eagles Track Team traveled this past Thursday, February 15, to Sharyland HS for their first track meet of the season. The Lady Eagles earned medals in: 100 meter hurdles - 1st place Frida Fernandez 100 meter hurdles - 3rd place Susy Huizar 300 meter hurdles - 3rd place Susy Huizar Lady Eagles Varsity Track Team competed at the PSJA Track Meet on Friday, February 16. Our Lady Eagles did a great job improving in all the events and bringing home medals in:
5 800 meter relay 3 rd Place-Jasmine Ornelas, Ashley Gonzalez, Alyssa Gaona and Cynthia Gutierrez 3200 meter relay - 2nd place-michelle Flores, Leila Arriola, Layla Trevino and Jazmine Sustaita. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LADY EAGLES TRACK!!!!!! 6 Congratulations to our Mighty Mission Eagles soccer team for defeating the McHi Bulldogs by the score of 3-1 on Tuesday evening, February 20. The Eagles Soccer Team was led by a strong offensive attack and a stingy defense. Coaching the Eagles are Coach C. Barouhas, Coach, D. Martinez, Coach C. De Leon, and Coach D. Serrano. 7 Congratulations to JR Valadez for receiving a Texas DECA Scholarship at the Annual State DECA Convention.
