2 Irving ISD Athletic Camps 2016 Philosophy of the Irving ISD Athletic Camps The Irving ISD Athletic Camps are designed to develop skills, teamwork, and knowledge of sports in young athletes who desire to participate in athletics. Campers will receive a camp T-shirt. Camp Directors and Staff Each Camp will be directed by varsity coaches from Irving ISD. Each director is experienced in his/her sport and dedicated to coaching young people. Coaching staffs are made up of outstanding coaches from Irving who are interested in the development of the campers skill and knowledge of the game. There will be a ratio of 10 players to one coach. Camper Eligibility Most camps are open to boys and girls who have completed Third Grade (8 years old) through those who have completed Eighth Grade. There are a few exceptions this year. MacArthur Soccer Camp will allow high school students in grades 9-12 to attend. College coaches are being brought in to work with those students. Nimitz High Softball Camp will allow students who have completed Second Grade through those who have completed Eighth Grade. MacArthur Baseball Camp will allow students who have completed Kindergarten through those who have completed Eighth Grade. Camp Location Each camp will be held in the athletic facilities of Irving ISD. Registration, Tuition, and Camp Schedule Register your child by completing the enclosed registration form and enclosing a check or money order payable to Irving ISD for the camp tuition. Tuition is to be paid in full to the IISD Athletic Office when registering a camper. Schedules vary by camp. ***Complimentary Breakfast and Lunch*** The Irving ISD Food Service Department will be providing breakfast & lunch for athletic camps this year. Breakfast will be available 30 minutes before the start of morning camps. Lunch will be available at the end of morning camps and 30 minutes prior to the beginning of afternoon camps. Meals must be eaten on campus BASEBALL CAMPS The 2016 Irving ISD Baseball Camps will be held at the Irving, MacArthur & Nimitz baseball fields. Campers will receive individual instruction which emphasizes the proper techniques of throwing, fielding, hitting, pitching and catching, as well as group instruction on base running and position play. Pickoff plays, bunting, and situational plays will also be covered. Team scrimmages will be a part of the camp. All participants are encouraged to wear baseball type clothing if possible. Campers will be required to provide their own baseball equipment (bats, gloves, helmets). Each participant will receive a camp T-shirt and individual awards will be presented to campers on the final day. (The Irving ISD Food Service Department will be providing breakfast & lunch for athletic camps this year. See details on page 1.) 3 2016 BASKETBALL CAMPS Times Vary by Grade TUITION $50.00 The Irving ISD Basketball Camps will be held at Irving, MacArthur & Nimitz High schools. All the coaches have extensive experience directing and teaching basketball camps. They have a tremendous knowledge and love of the game which they desire to pass on to young people. The camp will emphasize a variety of basic skills to help campers in their overall development as basketball players. A combination of individual, team, and video instruction is planned. (The Irving ISD Food Service Department will be providing breakfast & lunch for athletic camps this year. See details on page 1.) Activities at the camp will consist of instruction and participation in basic offensive and defensive skills. Special team s skills, weight lifting techniques, and conditioning will also be taught. The camp will be conducted in the athletic facilities on the Irving, MacArthur & Nimitz High School campuses. 4 2016 SOCCER CAMPS The 2016 Irving ISD Soccer Camps will be held at the Irving, MacArthur & Nimitz High School campuses. Campers will be grouped according to age or ability and will be introduced to the fundamentals of technique and the demands of the game. Techniques that will be covered include dribbling, passing, defending, heading, and shooting, as well as other topics. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt and a written evaluation. Each camper is encouraged to wear appropriate clothing (t-shirt, shorts, socks, soccer shoes and shin guards) and bring their own soccer ball. Individual awards will be presented each day at the end of camp. Soccer videos and indoor soccer may be alternative activities in case of bad weather. 5 2016 VOLLEYBALL CAMPS The 2016 Volleyball Camps will be held in the Spectator Gym on the Irving, MacArthur & Nimitz campuses. Elite instruction will be given by the superior camp staff in every phase of the game with an emphasis on fundamentals. Sub-Varsity and Varsity type drills will be used and campers will receive individual instruction emphasizing the proper techniques of setting, passing, serving, and hitting, as well as group instruction on defense and position play. All participants are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing. Campers at all camps will be required to provide their own protective equipment such as kneepads. Each participant will receive a camp T-shirt and individual awards will be presented to campers on the final day. (The Irving ISD Food Service Department will be providing breakfast & lunch for athletic camps this year. See details on page 1.) Volleyball Camp Dates, Grades & Directors: Irving High June 13 June 16 Grades 4 9 Sonny Cornelius MacArthur High July 25 July 28 Grades 4 9 Erin Sims Nimitz High July 25 July 28 Grades 7 9 Joy Engeldinger 2016 IRVING HIGH WRESTLING CAMP June 6 June 9 TUITION $50.00 Grades 2 9 8:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. New this year, we will be offering a Wrestling Camp for boys and girls. It will be held in the Dungeon Gym right behind the spectator gym or the wrestling room on the Irving High campus. The camp director will be Jose Lazo, Head Wrestling Coach at Irving High School for boys and girls. Experienced coaches and trainers will also be on hand to instruct and monitor the week s camp progression. Campers will be grouped according to age or ability and will be introduced to the fundamentals of technique and the demands of the sport. Campers will receive individual instruction which emphasizes the proper techniques of taking down, turning, escaping, and conditioning, as well as group instruction on terminology and rules. Each camper is encouraged to wear appropriate clothing (T-shirts and shorts). Campers will be required to provide their own wrestling equipment (wrestling shoes and headgear). Water bottles will be provided daily. Each participant will receive a camp T- shirt. (The Irving ISD Food Service Department will be providing breakfast & lunch for athletic camps this year.
