Waitangi Day Association Championships N.A.M.E Competition NZ Championships Closing Days Easter JANUARY BOARD MEETING in brief - Board Meeting was a two-day meeting held on 29/30 January at the Brentwood Hotel, Wellington with the TWP in attendance - Membership statistics down on last year, a major concern as funding from Sport NZ is reliant upon an INCREASE in membership - Four Associations have registered no Life Members and only two Associations have registered Volunteer Members. These members are very important to Associations, they do not pay a fee and the stats are vital to meeting our targets. CEO and Board Mentors to follow up with Associations for this data - Board Member, David Miller presented two investigative reports on Membership Growth, Retention and Ages of Grades. He is still to complete research on Retention, seeking information from other National Sporting Organisations and recommendations from his report on Ages of Grades deferred until May Meeting - Blue Sky Thinking notes from the joint Board/TWP brainstorming session topic - Judging to be simpler to engage in, much easier to start judging and better pathways for judges to progress, were discussed and additional notes to be shared with the TWP for feedback/recommendation at the May Meeting - Reports received from the Technical Working Party - A huge thanks and congratulation to Colleen Brooking, Director of Coaching, for the very successful Coaches Road Show that has renewed enthusiasm in Coaches. - Thanks also to Jan Hoad, Director of Judging, for the Judging Toolkit including DVD, feedback has been very positive of this new learning/up-skilling tool for Judges - Judge Accreditation achieved by two Judges at South Island Championships and a further two Judges have achieved Local Qualifying accreditation - Four Judges took the opportunity to up-skill, Shadow Judging at the South Island Championships - Association Chief Judge and Coaching Co-ordinators Workshop confirmed for 16 th October 2016 in Christchurch. - Judges Workshop will also be held in Christchurch in conjunction with a Competition Day on 15 th October The draft Strategic Plan was reviewed and changes made in preparation for presenting to the Annual Meeting In June - Areas of cost savings were addressed and included the need to meet costs of NZ Championships meeting cost by increasing entry, reducing awards, a cost/share arrangement with the Host Association. Annual Meeting savings by holding in Wellington every year and having a one-day meeting every alternate year. Less Board/TWP meetings, less Board Members to be considered.

Both new and experienced judges will benefit and should contact their Chief Judge for more information. Knowledge is Power Knowing how to take part in meetings and run them skilfully gives people power to make democratic decisions and act on them. Understanding meetings and how they are run makes them more productive and enjoyable. Many people feel out of place at meetings and find them boring or frustrating. If you don t know the rules or understand the terms, they can be difficult to follow. The Chairperson s skill and confidence are important, but everybody can help make a meeting a success. Everyone in the organisation should be aware of the underlying vision, purpose and philosophy: these aspects form the framework for planning, and policy decisions and can be utilised to measure achievement, Meetings can be valuable for the unity they build. A common purpose can lead to solidarity and comradeship, which are essential to help members understand the issue and make clearly thought-out decisions. Committees work on behalf of their members. Regardless of your role, every participant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, content and the effectiveness of the group. Committee Members should - attend all meetings, supporting the organisation and its office holders, participate on subcommittees, lead discussions where appropriate, take an active informed part in decision making and present alternative views. Meetings need active members - they do not need people who dominate, talk excessively, know everything, remain silent or don t contribute NEW TECHNICAL MANAGER DETAILS Technical Manager Marching New Zealand Mrs Barbara Newman 31 Monaghan Street Belfast, CHRISTCHURCH 8051 Contact Day Contact Evg (03) technical@marching.co.nz Treasure our Children` CHILDREN S DAY FIRST SUNDAY IN MARCH for information and events:
