1 Footnotes Established 1983 June 2015 Indianapolis, IN This month, Indy Dancers kicks off summer with one of our most popular events the Luau. If you attended last year, you know this event is a blast! This party offers a fun evening of great food, dancing and entertainment. So, dig out your Hawaiian shirts and put on your grass skirts. We will provide the leis, the brats and the best party music you have ever danced to! A cash bar will be available featuring pina coladas and daiquiris. I want everyone to have a good time, but to do that I need your help. Those who love to cook, I need help on the grills and setting out the food. Those who love to decorate, see Rhonda. Friday afternoon, June 19 th, we need help to clean and put up the lights. See page 4 for details. Next month, Indy Dancers co-sponsors the annual Ballroom Bash, July 10 at the Murat Arabian Room. Proceeds of this event benefits Special Olympics Ballroom of Hendricks County. The evening provides excellent ballroom dancing for all who attend, as well as special spotlight dances by area professionals, including Roger and Amy Greenawalt! 2 Secretary s Report Indy Dancers May 12, 2015 Meeting Minutes Rhonda Bennett Financial Report Indy Dancers, Inc. Income Statement The Indy Dancers business meeting was held May 12 at the Lodge. President Carl Dankert called the meeting to order. Carl urged members to mark their calendars for the club s annual Luau, June 20 at the shelter house. Admission is $10 and will include brats, hot dogs, baked beans and coleslaw. An RSVP is requested for a food count. Pres. Dankert also announced that tickets are on sale for the annual Ballroom Bash benefiting Special Olympics Ballroom of Hendricks County. Indy Dancers co-sponsors this event. Discount tickets are available to Indy Dancers for $22 and may be purchased during our dances. Additionally, Carl reminded members to plan a little outing to the Frank Sinatra Tribute concert at Symphony on the Prairie Aug. 22. Discount tickets are available for a group of 30 or more. Details will be announced later. Elections Pres. Dankert called for nominations for president. A motion was made to nominate Carl Dankert for president. It was accepted. Nominations were accepted for vice president. A motion was made to nominate Phil Morgan who was absent. The floor was then opened for nominations for treasurer. Hearing none, nominations were opened for secretary. A nomination was made to nominate Rhonda Bennett, who declined. Carl announced nominations will remain open until the June business meeting when elections will be held. Reports Carl called for a motion to accept the May secretary s report. It was seconded and approved. Additionally, a motion was seconded and approved for the May financial report. 5 DANCE FLOOR ETIQUETTE OUTSIDE LANE PROGRESSIVE DANCING Different Dances and Dance Styles can be accommodated on the floor at the same time if simple Dance Floor Etiquette is followed: INSIDE (SLOW) LANE STOP & GO MOVEMENT CENTER FLOOR COUPLE SPOT TURNS SWING & CHA-CHA LINE DANCES SLOW STATIONARY DANCING 1. When dancing a progressive dance (fox-trot, polka, waltz, etc.) move in a counter-clockwise fashion around the outside edge of the dance floor. 2. Slower dancers using side movements or stop-andgo patterns should dance in an imaginary inside lane, also counter-clockwise. 3. Dancers who stay in the same spot (swing, cha-cha, freestyle, line dance, etc.) should keep to the center, leaving the outside edge of the dance floor open. 4. Be polite and courteous, even when collisions occasionally occur. Remember courtesy is contagious! 5. Other General Rules: a. Never carry a drink onto the dance floor. b. Never back up against the line of dance. c. Line dancers should form several small lines rather than extended one line which will block the fast lane. d. When a dance floor is crowded, it is advisable for everyone to take small steps and travel in one direction to avoid collisions with other dancers. e. Don t stand on the dance floor to talk, thus taking up valuable dance space. SEE YOU ON THE DANCE FLOOR!
