Call Esther Boyko at or her at Esther2386@Gmail.com Want to spend a wonderful Sunday afternoon? Join the Fanfifties that attend the Philly Pops concerts at the Kimmel Center and has a great time. For many years there have been a group of members that have season tickets each year. The group attends the season of four Philly Pops concerts on Sunday afternoons in February through May. Initially they saw the classic Peter Nero as the conductor, and now enjoy the wonderfully innovative and entertaining Michael Krajewski as the conductor. The seats are in a unique location called the Conductor s Circle, directly overlooking the orchestra. The price per concert surprisingly is in the low $30 s per show. enough to get a ticket through Betty from someone that can t attend. I absolutely would be a season ticket holder if it didn t conflict with some of my work assignments. But I was able to attend several wonderfully entertaining and varied concerts during the past couple of years such the music of Carol King, Simon and Garfunkel, the Four Seasons, and the Legends of Rock and Roll. Each of these concerts featured gifted vocalists that perform the music, and the sound of the Philly Pops is simply awesome. They truly are one of the best in the U.S.A. Check your Newsletter and Wednesday Wake Ups for all the details about forthcoming concerts, and how to get tickets from Betty, if they are available. But an ongoing event like this, something as sustaining and wonderful as it is, doesn t just Imagine being at the Kimmel Center, watching happen by itself. For several years, Betty the Philly Pops perform some old time Rock and Gentile has coordinated the season tickets with Roll and the conductor somehow gets the club members and the Kimmel Center, getting audience to sing along to The Lion Sleeps the best price and seating possible, and always Tonight complete with all the oh-weemaways inserted at exactly the right time. It was being the host with the most. She is also the focal point for those members that can t make a a lot of fun. The Philly Pops can play any and particular performance and need to sell their all music they even played background for ticket. She does an absolutely excellent job as the Pope at independence Hall when he visited the host for this really enjoyable outing. Prior to Philly. Besides hanging out with your Fanfifty Betty, a long time club member and former Club friends before and during the concerts, on Facilitator, Carolyn Savarese, hosted the Philly occasion many of the group go out to dinner Pops for several years and put this event on the together afterwards. What a wonderful way to map and it still endures and is growing to this cap off an entertaining afternoon. day. Lastly thanks to Betty for hosting the Philly I have had the pleasure of attending several Pops, and thanks to Carolyn for starting this concerts the past couple of years, being fortunate event years ago. It s still going strong! Many thanks to our gracious and selfless hosts without whom there would be no Fantastic 50s! March Events 2-4 April & Beyond 4 Calendar 5 Joining/Renewal Info 6 The Fantastic 50 s gathering inside the Kimmel Center for another great show. Our Club A Quick View When we started this club in October of 2000, our goal was to provide interesting social activities for people over 50 years of age. Since that time we ve sponsored thousands of activities from free concerts in local parks to trips to Hong Kong. While not intended to be a partnership meeting place, many of us have found lasting friendships. We ve noticed that the more involved you are, the more satisfying the friendships become. As you might expect, we ve seen our share of marriages as well. Some other events include dance parties at local clubs, pinochle games, Kimmel Center concerts, dinners, trips and special interest groups like photography and birding. We have no limit as to what adventure might be sponsored. Belonging is lots of fun. Lonely nights tend to disappear. We provide descriptions of events and current information by way of a monthly newsletter, a web site and a weekly . We special changes as needed. The basis of our club is members hosting events for other members. That is what keeps the club vibrant and moving forward. So think of something you would like to do or attend, and host it as a club event. We need your participation. Page 6
