1 South Jersey s Social Club for Singles 50 and Up Check out our website: Your Social Teams Fall: Mary Basso, Georgian Crusenberry, Tom Cusack, Maryjane Evans, Harriet Shikes, Linda Switzer Winter: Mary Basso, Jim Enright, Teresa Gizzi, Janet Kelleher, Pete Krasowski, Mary Neale, Janice Sweeney Spring: Joyce Beatrice, Deanna Kingkiner, Grace McAteer, Harriet Shikes Summer: Maryjane Evans, Joan Knisell, Loretta Krewson, Harriet Shikes, Barbara Snow Operations: Esther Boyko, Georgian Crusenberry, Tom Cusack, Den DiMarco, Pete Gentili, Janet Kelleher, Linda Kercher, Loretta Krewson, Don Nelson, Michele Wosak Photographer: Barbara Snow Editor: Michele Wosak Newsletter Deadline: 8/20 Sunday, 8/20, is the deadline for event info/articles to appear in the next newsletter. Call Michele Wosak at or at mwosak@comcast.net Many thanks to our gracious and selfless hosts without whom there would be no Fantastic 50s! August Events 2-4 September & Beyond 4 Calendar 5 Joining/Renewal Info 6 For most months during the year, the Club hosts a Monthly Social. Other months, in place of the Social, the Club hosts the Anniversary Party in May, the Day Before Labor Day picnic in September, and the Holiday Party in December. This write-up is dedicated to those Club members that work together to make all this happen. Quite frankly, if it weren t for their efforts, many of these events would not be happening. If you look on the left hand side of the first page of this newsletter, you will see listed the names of Club members that work on the Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer teams. Each team works on planning Club sponsored events occurring in their particular season. For example, the Summer Team is currently working on plans for the annual picnic, and were responsible for planning the June Social that featured our own version of Antique Roadshow. The Spring Team planned the Anniversary Party back in May, and the April Social, that featured team charades. The Fall Team is already discussing plans for this Fall s October and November Socials, and will handle the planning for the Holiday Party. The Winter Team plans Club events in the January through March timeframe. Their task is especially challenging because of the threat of bad weather. In fact, the Social back in March had to be cancelled due to bad storms. A real shame because they were hosting a St. Patrick s Party featuring Irish dancers. Oh well maybe next year. What is so rewarding about participating on these teams is that you work with other members to help develop and implement new ideas, or utilize previously used ideas that were successful, as the featured activities at Club Socials. One feels a real sense of achievement from working with a team to develop an idea, and then see it in action at the Social. I have heard members refer to this as a joy, not a chore, and feeling such satisfaction from their participation on the team. The teams also plan the food program at the Socials. In fact, the teams came up with the idea to incorporate snack style food (e.g. pizza, hoagies) into the Social as an alternative to members having to bring something for the food table. The teams also plan the Picnic, Anniversary Party, and Holiday Party selecting the menu, developing the program for that particular event, developing a theme and decorating ideas. What works well for team members is that their efforts are dedicated to a particular three month time period during the year they are not on duty the whole year and this works well for some members that travel during the year. However, there are some members that are on more than one team, because they enjoy the participation. Lastly, we have some members that help set up and conduct the Monthly Socials, most notably Pete Gentili. Month in and month out, Pete is the first at the hall helping to set up the tables and chairs. Pete mans the admission table, and is also responsible for the drawing at the Club events, a valuable asset to our Treasury. However, the make up of the teams change from time to time. Sometimes team members get pulled in other directions that limit their participation. Sometimes members move away. We could use more members on the teams. Join a team, have some fun working with your teammates, feel the sense of achievement, and have a real hand in making things happen. Call me and let s discuss.

Our Club A Quick View When we started this club in October of 2000, our goal was to provide interesting social activities for people over 50 years of age. Since that time we ve sponsored thousands of activities from free concerts in local parks to trips to Hong Kong. While not intended to be a partnership meeting place, many of us have found lasting friendships. We ve noticed that the more involved you are, the more satisfying the friendships become. As you might expect, we ve seen our share of marriages as well. Some other events include dance parties at local clubs, pinochle games, Kimmel Center concerts, dinners, trips and special interest groups like photography and birding. We have no limit as to what adventure might be sponsored. Belonging is lots of fun. Lonely nights tend to disappear. We provide descriptions of events and current information by way of a monthly newsletter, a web site and a weekly . We special changes as needed. The basis of our club is members hosting events for other members. That is what keeps the club vibrant and moving forward. So think of something you would like to do or attend, and host it as a club event. We need your participation. Page 6
