Editors: Araceli Cruz A. and Koral Arant Volume 3, Issue 2 December 15, 2016 Special points of interest: Winter Break: December 19 January 9 Inside this issue: Who lets the FREAKS out? Who s making America Great again? 2 2 Book Fair 2 5th grade Scicon 3 Varsity Girls Tournament 4 Who Scored? 5 Sleepin In 6 Think Before You Do By: Jimena Espinoza, Angel Verduzco, and Nicole Nunez Do you know what tolerance means? Well, just ask the 7th graders! They sure know because they attended the Museum of Tolerance on Thursday, November 10, We had to be at school at 5 am! But it was totally worth it! We left school around 5:30 after a nice breakfast and using the restroom. We interviewed Mrs. Lampe about the trip and she said, It was the best one yet and I was very impressed with the students for behaving well. We also asked Mrs. Burrell about the field trip and she responded, I enjoyed the tour and thought the tour guide was phenomenal. It was better than Takis with lemon. The Museum of Tolerance was a tour, designed to show racism and prejudice around the world from the future to the past. It showed what hate creates and how it has created lots of violence in our world. When asked to rate the trip many announced it was a 10 out of 10 experience, except partypooper Mr. Marroquin who gave it a 7 out of 10 (since he has been there so many times). Jailyn said that the trip was spectacular because her tour guide described everything with detail and asked everyone for their honest opinion. Gabe said that the trip was very fun, and it was a moving and sad event. We saw many videos, pictures, and information to help show how everything is going on without us knowing. It was the most educational and emotional experience of all the field trips we have ever been on. At the part of the last moments (for Jews), we got up to the gas chambers which were cold and damp. In the Museum of Tolerance, the tour guide gives each student a card with a picture of a child from the Holocaust on it. At the end of the tour, the child s fate is revealed and sorrow will cross your mind. Responsibility is a huge part of our actions and we have to control ourselves before something tragic might happen. We learn about history because we don t want to repeat it. Judging a person doesn t define who they are.it defines you.

Halloween Carnival It s Creepy, it s Spooky, it s the Annual Tipton Elementary School Halloween Carnival! On Friday, October 21, 2016 Tipton had its annual Halloween Carnival. There were lots of games to win and tons of prizes to get. To list a few, there was a Haunted House, a train, Silly String maze, and a Trampoline which is something new to the Carnival. We interviewed Ivan who dressed up as Jason Voorhees and we asked him, What Who Let the Freaks Out?! By Anthony S., Angel, and Anthony W. was the best attraction here? Ivan Martinez responded with, The Haunted house. We found Orlando Toledo, but he didn t dress up at all. I guess you could say he dressed up as Orlando himself. We asked him, Is the Carnival fun? Orlando answered, Yes. Then we interviewed a teacher. We found Mr. Marroquin with his family. Mr. Marroquin dressed up as Brock, Mrs. Marroquin dressed up as Misty, one of his sons dressed up as Ash, and the other son dressed up as Pikachu. If you didn t know who they are, all these characters are from Pokémon. We asked him, What do you think about the Carnival? Mr. Marroquin answered back, There is a lot more people than I expected. All in all, we can say that the 2016 Tipton School Carnival was a SPOOKtacular experience! Books have to be heavy because the world is inside of them Cornelia Funke Who is Making America Great Again? By Anthony Welch Who did you want to win the election? Why? Well either way, Donald Trump won the presidential election that took place on November 14, Donald ended up with 306 electoral votes and Hillary ended up with 232. To win the election either of them only need 270 votes, which Trump exceeded. Trump will move into the White House in January of Many Ameri- cans all over were outraged that he won. Some even started protests everywhere from New York to Los Angeles. Makes you wonder, did they vote correctly? Or did they make a mistake upon voting for Donald trump? Some Tipton teachers said they voted for Trump since Hillary wanted to take California s farm water and put it into California s cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles. Book Fair Bookaneer By: Koral Arant Donald J. Trump Mrs. Megan and Mrs. Bettencourt Can I get an Arr, Arr!, matey? This fall s Scholastic Book Fair was pirate themed. The school library was decorated to look like a pirate ship. Can you guess who dressed up as pirates? Mrs. Megan and Mrs. Bettencourt, of course! You could say that they looked booty-full. With all the sales, we raised $2,500 in total. That money will go towards buying brand new books and supplies for our library. We had two raffles this year. Students had to guess how many coins and the staff members had to guess how many pearls. There were 187 coins and 1,113 pearls. Mrs. Calderon guessed 1,113 points on the dot. The next book fair will be from April 24th to April 28th and will be a camping themed. See you there! Page 2

Volume 3, Issue 2 5th Grade to Scicon By Ashley, Dalila, and Marlene Did the 5th graders have a good time at Scicon? Well we are going to tell you. Did the 5th graders have fun? Yes, they did. They said there was it was a lot of walking and they were so tired and they also said that they saw animals wondering around. These are the animals they saw lizards, woodpeckers, birds, squirrels, and some frogs. They said the climate was very hot at Scicon. The bridge they liked was the Bee Bridge, the Boogey Bridge, the Soda Bridge, and the Hold Your Breath Bridge. Carla said that Scicon was a lot of walking. They touched acorns, rocks, leaves, and the vanilla tree. The 5th graders had a lot of fun Leslie M. said she knew that the other students had fun too. The fifth graders said that they can t wait till they go for a week in sixth grade. The fifth graders said they are excited to go next year. They also said that they are happy that they went. The 5th graders go every year because they get a preview of what they will learn and what to expect when they go in 6th grade. They went on October 14, There favorite guide was Sheri. Everyone in 5th went except 1 Pink is Cool By: Vivianne and Taylor Why wear pink? We wear pink to show respect to the people that have Breast cancer. Also wearing pink or having a symbol, means that the person wearing it or the business cares about women. Get your pink on! Pink may be people's favorite color but also we wear pink to represent care and hope. Breast cancer can be cured. There are many ways you can cure it. You can detect breast cancer by getting yearly mammograms. Breast Stop, Drop and Roll Nicole Nunez and Clarisa Vejar cancer doesn t only occur on women but also in men. Breast cancer can occur in teen years. About 1 in 8 women in the U.S have Breast cancer but as we said, men get it too, but rarely. As we were searching we came upon a woman that had Breast cancer, her name was Barbara Hobson, there are treatments and if you see a specialist you can get it treated. Another option is to get it treated by Susan G Komen Centers. Pink is not the only color that symbolizes cancer there are many colors that symbolize many type of cancers. The journalism class had a bracelet fundraiser for cancer awareness month. We went around selling these bracelets to all the classes. During this fundraiser we made money day by day for three weeks. At the end of the three weeks we made $ and sent it to Stanford University. Cancer Awareness Bracelets These two firefighters Grant and Eric made such a entrance, it left the children gasping for air. 38 year-old Grant Jackson and 20 year-old Eric Barajas came to our very own Tipton Elementary to teach the 2nd graders about fire safety and importance. Eric Barajas went to Tipton Elemen- tary from 3rd-6th grade, where Mrs. Lampe was his favorite teacher. These brave men decided on this job since they had a passion for helping people, and it has Batman kind of tools. Father of 2, Grant Jackson, spoke while Eric Barajas demonstrated leaving 2nd graders longing for more. These two heroes went through so much to get where they are now, that shows us how hard-working they are. They left the 2nd graders out of breath when they had to run to an emergency. Duty calls!!! Will you take up the challenge of being a firefighter? Page 3

She Shoots, She Scores! By: Nicole Nunez and Clarisa Vejar Cinderella can t get to this ball! The JV soccer girls kicked it out of the park when it comes to teamwork and success. The JV girls are doing great in the hands of Mr. Avila and Mrs. Morton, this year s soccer coaches. Sadly, the first game of the season, the JV girls were defeated by Sundale. Though that doesn t beat them down, with the encouragement that the team gives and how everyone backs each other up, nothing can break them. Whatever brings us down, makes us stronger. We become as one in the soccer field. Hopefully, in December, the JV girls will win more soccer games for our school, Tipton. Don t practice till you get it right. Practice until Who is on the Field? By: Angelica Lara, Monica Gutierrez, Daniela Gonzalez JV Girls Players Nicole Lizeth Lisset Melissa Alejandra V. Alejandra M. Alondra Martha Esperanza Stephanie Edith Jessica Clarisa Samantha Yadira On November 18th Where were the Varsity Girls at? Well they were at the tournament. The tournament was Palo Verde. The girls were excited and full of hope to win their tournament. Next was their game with Sundale and the girls had a lot of hope, but sadly they lose 2-0. Later on they stared their fourth game against Waukena they played as a team and they had the ball the whole time in the game, but we did not make any goals in that game. We had the next tournament December 2 and were able to take 2nd place. Varsity Boys Tournament By: Monica Gutierrez, Angelica Lara, Daniela Gonzalez November 18, Varsity Boys played 6 schools. The boys first played Buena Vista. They tied it off with a 1-1. The next game was against Palo Verde. Sadly, the boys lost 1-0. Onto the third game versing Sundale. The final score was 1-0, Sundale with the win. After the three games the boys played their final game against Waukena and ended with Tipton losing. The boys gave it their all especially Angel Quinonez, he scored two points for his team. We interviewed Alejandro P., Bryan H., and Juan S., We gave it our all and tried to win all four games but we we re all tired once it got to the fourth game Page 4

After a while, Sundale enters the gate. Mr. Marroquin calls the Varsity team together and tells them to do their best and try their hardest. As they got to their position they started their game. They all tried their best and worked as a team and one of Woah, that was a good kick from that defender. Who is that amazing team and who is their coach? Well if you must know JV boy s coach is Mr. Pharis and he does an amazing job coaching. The team itself is Eyan Arant, Jose Barahona, Aaron Chavez, Martin Cruz, Genaro Delgadillo, Victor Espinoza, Gabriel Fisher, Isaac Gonzalez, Anthony Gutierrez, J. Jimenez, Edgar Madrigal, Joe Medina, Dario Perez, Anthony Saldivar, Angel Sanchez, Mauricio Sanchez, and Kendrick Torres. The First game JV was suppose to play was against Pixley but we rescheduled, then one week later Pixley said they didn t have the game on their schedule. Next game was against Sundale and JV lost 0-8. Then their next game was suppose to be against Sunnyside but they didn t have a JV boys team they only had a Varsity team. I interviewed Joe Medina How did you feel in your first game? Joe responded, I felt excited. I asked, Were you mad, happy, or sad that the games were canceled or rescheduled so many times and that JV only played one game so far? Joe said, I was mad because we didn t get to play that much games. Then I asked, Who are the best players for every position? Joe replied, For goalie Martin Cruz, for defense Edgar Madrigal is the best, for middle it was Genaro Delgadillo, and for forward Jose Barahona. Finally I asked, "What position do you play? I play as a forward. Well since it s over for JV, it s time for the Varsity Tournament and I asked Mr. Pharis which JV boys will be attending the tournament, he said Genaro Delgadillo, Edgar Madrigal, and Martin Cruz. their teammates, Angel Q scored! The people who worked extra hard in the games were Juan S. and Angel Q. Angel Q. said, Mr. Marroquin was the best coach. SOCCER Page 5

Craftastic Fair By: Nicole Nunez On November 12, 2016, the craft fair began from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In the S.P.D.E.S, the craft fair was sponsored by the helpful Tipton Beautification Committee where talent and hope filled the air. All the money fundraised helps beautify and build Tipton, so don t forget to help out. Many people came to bring their creations for everyone to see including items such as amazing award-winning salsa and lovely books. Helen Ferrell, the manager of Tipton beautification Committee, interacts with the society, showing us never to give up on something you love and enjoy. The price of the crafts range from $1-$50. The committee served an amazing breakfast (Doughnuts and coffee) and lunch (soup and sandwich). Laughter, Christmas songs, and jolly smiles were reminders of how positive it was in the building. If you see something in the community that needs work or repair, please go help and serve because Tipton is in need of saving. In crafting, these aren t mistakes, just unique creations - Unknown. When in doubt, just add glitter. Do You Know Mrs. Gilbert Well? By: Marlene, Do you know Mrs. Gilbert well? Well, here is some information about her. Sleepin In By: Vivianne Martinez Page 6 The end of Daylight saving was on November 6, What the daylight saving really means is that now that fall is here it will start getting dark earlier and the sun will start to rise earlier too. The Daylight does really save energy because it is the sun hitting us and it brings more light and that helps by not using light inside your house as much and not having every single light on. Your house clocks and cell phones will automatically change their own time at 12 o clock and that will save you more time because you would like to go and change every clock you have around the house, if that was the case you would probably be very tired. Another cool thing about the time change is that you can wake up an hour later than you usually do. While researching it said that not only it is a good thing that the time will change but sometimes people life's might or can possibly suffer due to Daylight Saving Time (DST). The struggle is that its hard for people to be staying awake in the evening and keeping their original routine during the day and night.
