Saturday No Show Friday Songwriter Sessions One Friday eah month (unless otherwise noted), The Vanilla Bean Café offers a warm and intimate listening room for artists in a monthly musi series alled Songwriter Sessions. Hosted by Lisa Martin, the series is dediated to the raft of songwriting. Eah performer is required to write a song based on a theme hosen by the previous month s audiene. Newly rafted songs are presented in round three of the evening s series whih features three loal or regional songwriters. 5 July Entertainment Saturday Peter Mulvey Over the past 20 years, Peter Mulvey has pursued a restless, eleti path as a writer and musiian, immersing himself in Tin Pan Alley jazz, modern aousti, poetry, narrative, and Ameriana stylings. Relentlessly touring as a headliner, has also shared the stage with luminaries suh as Emmylou Harris, Rihard Thompson, Ani difrano, Indigo Girls, and Greg Brown. In every aspet of his areer, Mulvey draws on an extremely broad swath of influene. Still, the live performane defines the work. Night after night, Mulvey attempts to be the sum of his parts, to draw on all the musial legaies he has studied, to make a fresh, vital moment out of everything he and the audiene have brought to the table that night. People need this. I need this. To ome together in a room, to try to make musi ome alive, for real, for right now, and then to let it go that is the whole deal for me. Saturday Elison Jakson Formed in 2009, Elison Jakson is a folk-rok band from CT. They are fronted by folk singer Sam Jakson Perduta with shared voals from gospel singer Arthur Williams, and baked by Kevin Aust on bass/trumpet and Kevin Marrs on drums and perussion. They are independently releasing their first album, reorded in Oxford, CT with New Haven band Sidewalk Dave. The band name omes from a fisherman from New Bedford, MA who died in the early 1960s. Sunday Beky Chae Chosen Best Female Voalist 5 times by the readers of the Providene Phoenix Best Musi Poll, Beky Chae has been alled one of the most elebrated singer/songwriters to ome out of the RI area. - Motif Magazine. Anyone who has seen Beky sing in any setting knows she delivers with passion and onvition every time she takes a stage. Beky Chae believes that musi should be used as a tool to bring people together. Her entire areer has been a testament to her vision of what musi an do. Like her idols, Dylan, Springsteen, and Luinda Williams, she has always believed there is more than one way to get her message aross. Saturday Gabrielle Louise Gabrielle Louise is a nationally touring troubadour noted for her poignant lyris (a two-time John Lennon Songwriting Contest finalist, winner of the Jak Maher Songwriting Award) and lush voie. Her musi is anhored deeply in folk, but undeniably drawn to rih harmonies and melodi adventurism. Friday Songwriter Sessions Saturday Shawn Taylor Shawn Taylor s thumping thumb, daning fingers and soulful voals drive the gritty new roots sound heard on his latest release FREE. His songs reflet the intensity of ontemporary Amerian life on a personal level, through vivid imagery and passionate delivery, while drawing from the deep well of great Amerian musi traditions and 15 years of performane experiene. He s drawn omparisons to Mississippi John Hurt, Tom Waits, Brue Springsteen, Ray Lamontagne, Bob Dylan, Chris Smither, Steve Earl & Stephen Stills, yet his voie & his songs are distintly influened by his own blue ollar wandering roots. He s worked an oyster-boat, been a hith-hiking tramp, a arpenter, a thru hiker, (bakpaking the length of the Appalahian Trail, the Long Trail & The John Muir Trail), and penned several prize winning short stories on the way. 7 August Entertainment Saturday Mith Seidman Mith Seidman was initially inspired by a Kenny Burrell reord to pursue jazz guitar, and then by the late Attila Zoller through study and a lose friendship that began in A professional musiian and musi eduator for well almost forty years, he has performed at festivals, nightlubs, adjudiated, and presented linis throughout the US, Frane, Germany, and Costa Ria, where he was also an artist-in-residene. Seidman has reorded with Harold Vik, Harvie S, Ted Brown, Alan Dawson, Joe Hunt, Tony Zano, and Charlie Kohlhase and performed with numerous other renowned jazz musiians. He is a Professor of Ear Training at Berklee College of Musi, was a ontributing editor to 20th Century Guitar Magazine, and o-authored the book entitled Playing the Changes:Guitar on Berklee Press/Hal Leonard. Saturday Poor Old Shine Foot stomping, mind raing, fast flinhing musi - day in and day out, Poor Old Shine is the Roots-Ameriana ollaboration of Chris Freeman and Will Leet. They travel with an assortment of instruments inluding guitars, banjos, pump organ, string bass, ello, a swarm of harmonias, and a yard-sale-srapmetal drum set. It s old songs with a new feel, banjos with paint peeled, shoes with holes and treadless soles, and musi that is real. Poor Old Shine s musi is rooted in the folk and Appalahian mountain musi tradition and fits in well at bluegrass festivals and stiky rok lubs alike. They have been ompared to The Avett Brothers, Mumford and Sons, Langhorne Slim, and The Low Anthem beause of the hanging instrumentation and harmonies. Eah set mixes Freeman and Leet s songwriting with traditional folk ballads, prison work songs, and front porh style jamming. 9 September Entertainment Saturday Maria Sangiolo & Jim Henry Maria Sangiolo has been writing and performing for hildren and their families for the past ten years. A two-time Parents Choie awardwinning artist, reipient of a grant from the CT Commission on Culture and Tourism and one from the Iguana Fund from Club Passim in Cambridge, Maria paints with her pen and her voie. Whether it s under the moon singing a lullaby, in the garden building houses for fairies, by the sea wathing dolphins diving or down on the farm growing and eating veggies, Sangiolo hallenges us to be our very best and be stewards of the planet at the same time. Born and raised in MA, Maria has been singing sine she first heard the angel of musi, as a little girl riding in the bak seat of her parents blue Chevy wagon. Maria began songwriting while still in ollege. Her musial areer has spanned two deades, enrihing her fans lives with her original & interpreted musi. Maria s songs are honest, joyful, and earth-entered, all sung from her young-at-heart muse. There are only a few musiians who make you wonder if it s really as easy as it looks. Who make you rane your nek to see how many people are up on stage beause you an t believe all the sounds and textures emanating from one plae. His longtime reputation as a phenomenal all-around musiian is well-deserved. He an do it all: play most things stringed, sing lead or harmony, write great songs, produe, engineer and arrange. Four solo reordings and literally hundreds of traks on other people s reordings have emented his position as one of the most versatile and talented musiians working in aousti musi today. Saturday Slo-Grass Slo-Grass is a loal blue grass group that praties monthly at Express Yourself Coffee in Worester. Slo- Grass has been entertaining New England audienes for over 20 years with a unique brand of Aousti Ameriana. The band presents lively instrumentals featuring mandolin, banjo, guitar, aousti bass, and dobro and voal seletions showasing rih four-part harmonies. 10 A Weekend Breakfast full breakfast menu is served Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am - 12:00 noon. We offer a variety of speials inluding Brie Benedit, Ham and Caprese Omelet, and Turkey Spinah Sramble. We use only 100% maple syrup and top-quality baon. The majority of the shows are on Saturday night and start at 8:00 PM. Our Open Mi night is on the first Friday of eah month. During shows, a theatre urtain separates the listening room from the tiled dining room and kithen in an effort to keep the musi in and the kithen noise out. 11 Our Priing Praties 1. Sales Tax Inluded - Our pries inlude the 6% Connetiut Sales Tax. The pries listed on the menu are exatly what you pay. Our pries may seem to be inflated; however, a $8.50 menu item is atually $ $.48 sales tax. Furthermore, this pratie makes it easier for the ustomer, espeially if that ustomer is a hild who has exat hange for a ookie. What you see is exatly what you pay - what ould be simpler? 2. Not Market Standard Priing - We are not trying to fool the ustomer into thinking that $7.95 is less expensive than $8.00. We find this type of priing insulting to our ustomers. However, the reason it is used so extensively around $9.95 the nation is that it works effetively. We don t like that pratie, and we also like to believe that our lientele is not so easily fooled. 3. No Pennies, Dimes or Nikels - Beause our pries inlude tax and we do not prie in the standard way, we do not have to use pennies, dimes or nikels. This is a servie to both the ustomer and to us. We don t give you lots of hange, and we only have to use quarters and fifty-ent piees. This also helps our staff to be more effiient performing transations, whih saves time and money. An added bonus is that we don t have to ount hange at the end of the business day.
