1 THE ROTARY CLUB OF SANTA MARIA THE ROTATOR SEPTEMBER Hank Datter s 90th birthday is Wednesday, Sept. 22nd. (Born Sept. 22, 1920) We are going to have a birthday celebration at our next Tuesday meeting. Please help celebrate Hank s birthday. As you will recall, Hank has been a Rotarian for over 50 years. Bob Frias President None Craft Talk The Rotator is currently (this week) 14 pages. That is a lot of pages. Sooo, a lot of information is now being put on our website. The photo s from the Cal Poly soccer game are there. Upcoming speakers and events as well as links to all sorts of places are there also. Secure club documents such as our Constitution, our Bylaws, Continuing Resolutions and our new billing procedure are all there. The Website is designed for visitors for sure but it is also a valuable tool for members. You really should check it out every week. Last week two members sent out a request for addresses for other members. All of this information is on the website so you can get it when you want it. No waiting for someone to read and respond to your . If you don t have a Login Name: and a Password, please let me know, I will be happy to get you set up. fculley.rotary@gmail.com Last Meeting s Notes Visiting Rotarians None Visitors Elliot Kirk of Solar- Ponics Robert Poole of WSPA The Australian GSE Team will be coming to Santa Maria on Saturday, October 23 rd after the District Conference concludes in Solvang, and they will be leaving on Tuesday, October 26 th. There are five members of the team, three men and two women. We need volunteers to perform several different jobs. First we need someplace for these Aussies to sleep for three nights, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. We will need volunteers to drive them around on Sunday to do some sightseeing. On Sunday evening we will have a barbecue with them. Then on Monday we need volunteers to drive them around on their vocational visits. Monday evening we will be attending the Santa Maria South Rotary meeting and perhaps enjoying some Monday night football. They leave on Tuesday morning for Tehachapi. This is a great opportunity to meet someone from a foreign country who speaks almost the same language that you speak. Anyone who wants to be a part of this unique Rotary experience can call me, John Henning, at (work) or (home). 4 ROTARY RAMBLINGS BY PAST PRESIDENT, SCOTT W. DUNN September 19, 2010 Dear Rotarians: I am sorry to have to share my original Rotary photograph with you, but I am doing so to make a point. How many of us over the years have had our portrait taken by Jan Demeter? Probably as many or more that have been induced (Ken Nelson s phrase) inducted by Ron Nanning. How many of us have had photographs taken at major events, (Club Anniversaries, Joint meetings, Step Downs, etc) by Jan Demeter? How many times has Jan given you a copy of those photographs to remember those special events? My guess, most if not all of you. Bottom line: Jan has made a difference for me in The Rotary Club of Santa Maria and I haven t done a good enough job to tell him how much I appreciate him chronicling the Club s events. It is one of those situations where we take people for granted; and that is wrong. I suggest that the next time that you see Jan that you please take the time to thank him for being our Club s photographer for all these years. Yours In Rotary Service 4
