1 Weekly Update Friday 1st March 2019 Shefford Lower School is committed to promoting respect, equality and harmony. We expect everyone who is part of, or who visits this school, to support this commitment both in the way they act and in the words they use. This month s values are Freedom and Happiness. The children have helped decide these meanings for our values: Friendship is: Being kind to each other. Making up with friends if you fall out. Playing with others. Helping someone if they get hurt. It means you are a good friend. Love is: Being kind and gentle. Loving one another. Knowing who you love. Caring about someone. Putting the other person before yourself. Oak Class Assembly Well done to Oak Class on Thursday for their assembly on Our Adventures in Year 2 So Far where they shared some of their learning over the last half of the year. You have been extremely busy! They also played the ocarina and sung A Million Dreams! Hawthorn Class Assembly Well done to Hawthorn Class today on their assembly based on Katie s Picture Show which they have been reading in class. We saw them step in to two paintings, where they ended up in Ancient Eygpt doing Eygptian dance and France where they sung Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes in French! We look forward to welcoming Ash Class parents on Thursday 7th March and Peach Class parents on Friday 8th March for their assemblies. Please check the dates for your child s class assembly. Assemblies start at 9.15am and last approximately 20/30 minutes.
2 Year 4 Faith Tour Year 4 will be going on the Faith Tour on Wednesday, where they will be visiting different places of worship in Bedford including a Church, Mosque and a Gurdwara. Please remember to pack your child a strictly vegetarian packed lunch and a scarf to cover their head (not a baseball cap or a handkerchief). Please speak to a member of staff if you would like a scarf to be provided. Year 3 Cake Sale Year 3 will be holding their Cake Sale on Wednesday 6th March at 3.20pm in the playground. All money raised will be donated to Great Ormond Street. Year 4 Frontier Centre Just a reminder to hand in any inhalers, medication and travel sickness tablets for the Frontier Centre by Wednesday 20th March to the School Office. Year 3 Egyptian Day Year 3 will be having Egyptian Day on Monday 18th March led by a company called Portals to The Past. Children will be able to dress up on the day as an Egyptologist or an Ancient Egyptian. Savers Club Needs Your Help Savers Club is looking for volunteers to help on a Thursday morning after drop off until 11.00am. If you would be interested in helping please contact the school office on or schooloffice@shefford.cbeds.co.uk Anxiety & Panic Workshop Mrs Parry would like to draw your attention to the Anxiety and Panic Workshop under Community News, which may be beneficial to some of our parents.
3 We will be celebrating World Book Day in school on Thursday 7th March and will be planning lots of fun activities. We are asking children to dress up as a character from a book of their choice and to bring the book in that inspired them. There is no need to buy a costume; homemade costumes can be cheap to make and look great! Please see below for some ideas: Matilda: Blue dress, red ribbon and books. Willy Wonka: Large dark sunglasses, top-hat made from black card, gloves, long coat or trousers and waistcoat, golden ticket, walking stick. Gangster Granny: Cardigan, blouse, black skirt and slippers. Eye mask or face paint and a sack for a swag bag. Where s Wally: Red and white stripe jumper/ white t-shirt with red stripes drawn or taped on. Bobble hat and glasses. Witch from Room on the Broom: Red top, purple skirt, witches hat and cape. Broom and bucket for cauldron. Why not attach a cuddly toy cat to the broom for extra effect! The Mad Hatter: Top hat made from black card, smart jacket, scarf/cravat tied around neck. Queen of Hearts: White top and black skirt and attach red paper hearts. Make a crown from fanned out heart playing cards, stuck together. Stick ribbon to corners of cards and tie card crown around a bun. Mr Bump: Blue top and trousers. Use bandages/plasters or toilet roll for bumps! Little Red Riding Hood: Normal clothes, red cloak, basket. Cat In The Hat: Black tracksuit bottoms, white t-shirt and white gloves. Make a red bow from ribbon and a mini top hat from card. Paint face white and add whiskers. Horrid Henry: Blue and yellow striped jumper/ add stripes to a blue jumper with yellow tape. Jeans and trainers. Rapunzel: Long dress, long woollen plait attached to a headband/ponytail. BFG: Big paper plate ears painted light brown, Paper Mache long nose on elastic, cut-off jeans, t-shirt, sleeveless jumper/waistcoat. Thing 1 or Thing 2 (The Cat in the Hat): Stripy leggings, red t-shirt, blue hair. The Alien Who Loved Underpants: Blue top and trousers, pants worn on top of trousers, spots on chest of top, alien head-dress. The Boy in a Dress: Dress, football socks, football boots. Oliver Twist: Cut off trousers, oversize jacket/waistcoat and shirt, cap.
